The real gun-control consensus
Over in the House, when asked recently what was more likely—passage of gun control or Speaker John Boehner becoming a pagan—a senior GOP leadership aide told Buzzfeed: “Probably the latter.”
Even were the Senate to summon 60 votes (unlikely), and even were Mr. Boehner to risk the renewed wrath of his caucus by moving such a bill (crazy unlikely), any legislation would fall to members such as Virginia’s Bob Goodlatte (who runs the Judiciary Committee) and Pete Sessions (who runs the Rules Committee). Mr. Goodlatte is strong on gun rights. Mr. Sessions is from Texas.
… At what point will Democrats have the spare bandwidth to address gun control? Also open to question is whether the White House intends to spend its political capital on that perilous subject, rather than on presidential priorities like immigration reform.
The White House is playing its usual fuzzy double-game. Does it intend to stick to mental-health recommendations and slough off on Congress any gun decisions? Or does it intend to embrace gun control in its liberal remake of the country? Was the leak that the Biden task force is debating big gun restrictions a signal of a fight to come? Or was it a deliberate head fake—to make smaller proposals look more reasonable? No one has a clue.

Well, gun sales are certainly spiking so there’s that.

That clown in the senate from CT wants background checks for every purchase of ammunition. You know, the bastard that lied about his military service?

What, so more children can die?
ROFL at you lefties, let’s see you spin this away.

Either way the left wins. Either they get meaningless gun control enacted. Or they expand the federal government and federal spending to “solve the problem”.
If competent people in schools with guns is a good solution (which I think it is) then local schools and school districts are perfectly able to make that decision – and fund it – on their own. Instead we’re going to transfer more money to public sector unions when what would work just as well is letting local schools decide if they want to hire security, make an arrangement with local law enforcement or offer to help fund any teachers who want to get a concealed carry permit etc.

Yup. Bought my first handgun yesterday. Count me as part of the “get it now or never” crowd. Springfield XDm 9mm Compact.

Careful it doesn’t become lost, stolen, or missing.

Not unless thieves can haul away a floor-safe. As for the other two, I’ve never lost so much as a pair of fingernail clippers. Rights come with responsibility.

What Akzed said.
If these Marxist a-holes are going to try to change the Constitution, then what about letting women vote still? That has obviously led to a lot of chaos.
Or how about we question the 1st Amendment?
Why should everyone be able to speak their mind?
Especially if it doesn’t jive with what the Proles want.

If I am reading what he is really saying then you missed his point. What will you do when the grabbers show up at the door wanting to confiscate your semiautomatic handgun.
On a different note congratulations on the purchase.

Everyone knows that no gun control bill would get through the House.
It’s the dictator 0bama forcing it through executive order, that’s the real threat.

That’s what the economy needs! A few million more refugees gaining “citizenship” and taking lower level jobs away from Americans.
Oh, and snatch the guns too! You rubes are too stupid to see I am the new Overlord!
All hail Obama!
Bulletchaser on January 11, 2013 at 12:30 PM
Though this is funny in a humorist sense, you realize that the whole “canoe” scenario when questioned constitutes lying to a Federal Officer in the course of an investigation (Think Scooter Libby). That is assuming they don’t tack on the old standard “conspiracy to violate Federal Gun Laws”, etc. Either way, you are toast. Either shoot when you can, or go to the camps but don’t sell the idea that lying to the new Obama Internal Security Dept is going to be funny.
Bulletchaser on January 11, 2013 at 12:37 PM
You know, we “gun nuts” – considering how very responsible we are with firearms and such – sure are lousy canoists. Someone – once global warming evaporates all the lakes and ponds – is going to have a field day collecting all those firearms. A little Break Free and they’ll be like new…….

That argument would have a lot more weight if so many big government conservatives didn’t lead the charge to outlaw the broadcast of pornography and limit its display in private businesses. Now since free speech can be regulated, why not guns? Not a freak’n reason in the world! That’s why!
The upcoming infringements on our 2nd Amendment rights are the unintended consequence of Republican and conservative Democrats championing the infringements on our 1st Amendment rights. The larger lesson we should take from this should be that philosophically inconsistent shortcuts bring short-term gain for long-term pain.
