Poll: 14 percent approve of Congress
Only 14 percent of voters in general approve of Congress while 81 percent disapprove and the remainder are unsure, according a Gallup poll out Friday. It’s a 4 percentage point decline from December and November, before Congress reached a fiscal cliff agreement.
Among GOP respondents, Congress has a 6 percent approval rating, down from 14 percent in December; among Dems, Congress has a 15 percent approval rating, down from 21 percent in December.
And Gallup noted that Congress’ approval rating for 2013 is looking to be a continuation of last year, when Congress had a yearly average approval rating of 15 percent — the lowest in Gallup’s 38-year history of asking the question.

Here’s what I don’t understand. We just had an election two months ago where the public overwhelmingly reelected these fools. But now only 14% of them approve of what congress is doing?

Because we have a bunch of losers in the Republican party.
When Newt was in charge, as radical and activist as he was with conservative principles after the election of the first black President Bill Clinton.. his popularity soared! He was Time’s Man of the Year in 1995.
See.. there’s a blueprint for Republicans to follow… but none of them do.
Just before Christmas Hannity had 2 conservative congressmen on his radio show discussing the fiscal cliff talks. I wish I knew their names. But they were both talking about how bad it is right now in the House between Republicans. The one thing he said specifically.. he repeated it and it was pretty telling to me. This conservative Republican on Hannity’s show said he kept trying to talk history to the other members… kept bringing up history, using examples from the past as how to approach the here and now and a lot of the other members kept telling him they didn’t care about history! “This was a different time.”
That is the problem. And it is a serious one.

I’m willing to bet that this number would be considerably different if instead they took the average of of the approval ratings for their individual congressional district…that is, they averaged the individual approval ratings of 435 reps and 100 senators. People approve of their own while disapproving of the actions of the whole, and that seems to have been true for some time.
I’m guessing they (polling groups) don’t do this because it would be too costly.
I’ve always thought comparisons of the WH approval with overall Congressional approval was comparing apples and oranges.
I’m of course no fan of Harry Reid, and right now the Republican leadership in the House seems….clueless. But I was happy to cast my vote for my Congressman, who by the way voted against the “fiscal cliff” deal.
