“Why does anybody need a … 30-round clip for a gun?”
“I grew up in this hunting culture, but this is nuts,” said the Southern-born former president, as he spoke at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The speech was recorded by the Associated Press.
“Why does anybody need a … 30-round clip for a gun?” said Clinton, who in 1994 signed the assault weapons ban into law. It lapsed a decade later.
“Why does anybody need one of those things that carries 100 bullets? The guy in Colorado had one of those,” said Clinton, referring to the movie theater massacre in Aurora, Colo., last year. “Half of all mass killings in the U.S. occurred since the assault weapons ban expired in 2005.”

all i know is that there is lots of gun manufacturers cashing in on these fears
nathor on January 10, 2013 at 3:25 PM
Good for them. They have a product I want. They have the supply, and there is a demand.
MoreLiberty on January 10, 2013 at 3:26 PM
What are they going to do ban springs and grade 10 shop class?
Caper29 on January 10, 2013 at 3:26 PM
If you lose sleep at night worrying about movie villians then by all means
tommyboy on January 10, 2013 at 3:26 PM
I agree with the 100 round drum. Not so much on the 30. Multiple attackers+bad aim/shaking hands would be a reason for 30 rounds.
Zaggs on January 10, 2013 at 3:27 PM
God bless them. They are filling a legitimate need.
tommyboy on January 10, 2013 at 3:27 PM
So what? They’re not the ones who are creating this “fear”. It is corrupt politicians that want to take away our rights that are creating “fear”.
Fazman on January 10, 2013 at 3:28 PM
I agree with Bill. You don’t need a 30 round clip. Of course there is no such thing as a 30 round clip. Clips are devices to hold ammo and facilitate the loading of magazines. For an AR-15 they hold 10 rounds each and you load 2 into a 20 round magazine and 3 into a 30 round magazine.
By all means pass a law that limits clips to 10 rounds and then go away. It would be the most meaningless law in history.
meci on January 10, 2013 at 3:28 PM
Why don’t you ask Korean shop owners in LA?
gwelf on January 10, 2013 at 3:33 PM
We need as big a clip as possible to help fend off the coming fascist police state stormtroopers. First they fluoridate the water, then they nerve gas us with chemtrails, they took away our RPGs, our flamethrowers, they banned us from having surface to air missiles so their helicopters can harass us from the air, they banned access to high explosives, and now they want to disarm us completely so that they can send us to the concentration camps they are building in the desert.
Every American needs to be ready for what we all know is coming. It won’t be zombies, people. It’s going to be your local police. The state police. The ATF. The FBI. The National Guard. Even the military. They are coming for us. The lackeys of the Bilderbergs, those international bankers that control the US. And as soon as we no longer have those 30 round clips, they will pounce. That is what all this is all about.
Take a stand. Put barbed wire around your compound. Set up a perimeter. Post members of your family to stand watch. Even the kids can be of great help. You operate the gun, your wives can hold the ammo belt free, and the little ones can clear away the spent cartridges. (You have to keep a safe workplace.) And if anyone from the government comes onto your property, you’ll be ready. Fight to the end. Don’t let anyone be taken alive. And remember Ruby Ridge.
And one more thing. Our Precious Essence. They can’t take that away from us. Drink only rainwater.
God Bless America,
Gun Nut

Why does anyone need a BJ?
ted c on January 10, 2013 at 3:36 PM
Talking to anti-gun folk I know I realize that they are really clueless as to how firearms work or even what a magazine is. I had one guy tell me that if the guy had a regular rifle, what ever that is, he would only have been able to kill one or two kids in that twenty minutes. The problem with that type of ignorance is that other libs believe him. I try to correct them but I’m not to be trusted because I don’t think guns are the problem.
What we need is public service TV stops showing and explaining firearms so that maybe a few of these morons will get educated.
Dr. Frank Enstine on January 10, 2013 at 3:36 PM
Very simply, I might need to kill somebody some day and it’s a lot easier to do with 30 round mags than it is with 5 round mags.
That’s not the answer you were looking for is it?
Browncoatone on January 10, 2013 at 3:37 PM
I am constantly amazed by the dim bulbs who think tyranny can’t happen here and/or the populace can’t fight it anyway. Talk about complete ignorance and stupidity.

ddrintn on January 10, 2013 at 3:40 PM
if you really want to fight tyranny, I advise IED’s… much more effective against modern armies than just guns.
nathor on January 10, 2013 at 3:40 PM
It’s projection.
They are happy with government handouts regardless of what that costs them or others, and they wouldn’t fight tyranny, so they assume no one would.

I’ve used a 100 round drum with a Ruger 10/22. Makes plinking a whole heck of a lot of fun.
But yeah, I don’t see why I should have to justify my “need” for such a thing either.
JohnTant on January 10, 2013 at 3:44 PM
Hear hear! It’s not like we’re talking about a group creating a climate of fear and then telling us we’ll have to buy their product. (::cough::obamacare::cough)

Spellcheck could be your friend.
Yes, it was money well spent. Now there are more people out there with guns who are unwilling to give them up. Responsible citizens can never be too well armed.

Trying to talk sense to these paranoid lunatics, is like Mandrake trying to get the recall code from General Ripper. There is only one way it will end for these people when they are surrounded by superior numbers – a gunshot to the head in the bathroom.

What’s the magic formula for calculating the size of clip (or mag, since I assume that’s what they mean here) necessary for self defense?
Let’s assume 1 attacker, then, even with shaky aim due to nerves, 5-6 bullets is probably fine.
2 attackers? Well, 3-4 to fend off first attacker and now you’re left with 2 bullets and hopefully calmer nerves for the 2nd attacker.
An angry mob? Let’s see…..hope that you’re able to drop 1 person per each bullet and that at 6 people dropped the mob decides to disburse.
A tyrannical government? I don’t know.
And the whole thing is pointless because a determined person can kill a lot of unarmed people with a couple of seconds to reload because the average person in those situations is going to be running and hiding not waiting for that split second where the gunman turns to reload and you can hopefully tackle and disarm him.
JadeNYU on January 10, 2013 at 3:47 PM
Clearly, Billy-Jeff has never been confronted by an angry mob of Sage rats.

Bulletchaser on January 10, 2013 at 3:48 PM
the more guns are around, the more mass shootings are bound to happen… if it happens too much, something will give politically and eventually some restrictions will be set in place.
this is not a personal opinion, just a political prediction…
I am quite ok with ppl owning guns
nathor on January 10, 2013 at 3:48 PM
Do you have data to back that up? How many mass shootings in Tennessee lately? Mississippi?

I was talking to a former co-worker today, who is pretty conservative, but doesn’t know all that much about guns. He said that he’s okay with people not having assault rifles. I took a deep breath and started my “firearms for dummies” explanation. It always starts out that AR does not stand for “assault rifle”, it stands for Armalite. He finally got it, but just an example of how many are in the dark about guns.
TxAnn56 on January 10, 2013 at 3:53 PM
Yedah, he’s trying to be witty and hip with an “NRA as Gen. Ripper” reference. It’s from Dr. Strangelove. Let’s now determine who’s Merkin Muffly.

Why does someone need a 30 round whatever? Because, it’s cool, that’s why, why does someone have a 500 horsepower auto? Why a G5 jet, because in a free country we can, that’s why…why does anyone ever need to buy more than a liter of booze at a time, when we know alcohol causes more deaths than guns. Because we can…doesn’t mean I have a 500 horsepower auto, or a 30 magazine, or even an ar-15 or whatever you want to ban, but it’s cool that I can if I want to, it’s cool to be free…yeah, why would anyone need to hold more than a dozen arrows in a quiver, have more than 3 knives in a kitchen? Why have air conditioning in a convertible…because we can, that’s why.
right2bright on January 10, 2013 at 3:54 PM
To shoot 30 intruders. Next question?
Dollayo on January 10, 2013 at 3:54 PM
no way… so much can happen, teachers can be wimpy little women/men easily knocked by large students and have their guns stolen… there are so many stories of assaults on teachers, you dont want to add guns to that mix.
nathor on January 10, 2013 at 3:55 PM
Yes, and it jammed. Those type of very large capacity magazines, over 50, are crap.
