Why Chris Christie is presidential timber
But the New Jersey governor is a potential presidential candidate because his rhetoric speaks to the times: Millions of Americans are being left behind by the new economy; they’re losing faith in institutions that are suppose to protect them, starting with government; they are empowered, thanks to the Internet and other technologies, unlike any other time in human history to enforce their will on failed institutions; and, finally, Americans want answers to the big unsolved problems including the national debt, gun violence, and climate change.
They want their leaders to lead.
Christie represents the gubernatorial wing of his party that, unlike Republicans in Washington, understands that nothing happens in a democracy unless rivals work to find ways that they can both win. While the GOP in Washington lost the November elections, Republican governors picked up a state capital seat because, Christie said, “we’re compromising when we need to.”
You see, it’s not a dirty word.

He will never get the Republican nomination and if by some miracle he does he can count on me not voting. A vote for a North Eastern Republican is a waste of time.

So Tony Soprano also is presidential timber… No, Christie is a small time New Jersey bully.
Illinidiva on January 10, 2013 at 11:47 AM
Fixed it.
platypus on January 10, 2013 at 11:47 AM
that’s the spirit, lets just ignore large chunks of the country! permanent minority…
nathor on January 10, 2013 at 11:47 AM
He actually won’t. I pointed this out last night. Iowa and South Carolina aren’t going to go for Christie.
Illinidiva on January 10, 2013 at 11:48 AM
I can’t seem him getting past Hilary in the primaries.
Ted Torgerson on January 10, 2013 at 11:48 AM
Christie may not be presidential timber, but he does have the same diameter as a giant sequoia.
steebo77 on January 10, 2013 at 11:49 AM
He would only face Hillary in the primary if he were a Demo… oh. Yeah, she’ll beat him.

What kind of tree is wider than it is tall?
Resist We Much on January 10, 2013 at 11:52 AM
That’s your brilliant strategery. You said yesterday that CRISTie appeals to indies and Democrats, which seemed to indicate that you wanted to ignore Republican and conservative voters. Or are you foolishly assuming they’ll just show up at the polls despite what happened to Romney in November?
Doughboy on January 10, 2013 at 11:54 AM
I’m voting for Romney again.
DeathtotheSwiss on January 10, 2013 at 11:55 AM
The GOP establishment is going to have a hard time picking between Jeb and Christie. It’s like an embarassment of riches! /
Doomberg on January 10, 2013 at 11:56 AM
Ok fine – just find a way for Rick Santorum to stay home.
jake-the-goose on January 10, 2013 at 12:00 PM
Well.. we can just nominate Rubio and win without having to deal with the abhorrent personality and baggage that Christie brings. (If he even can win which I doubt is the case).
Illinidiva on January 10, 2013 at 12:01 PM
Most of the GOP establishment is currently split between Ryan and Rubio, so I have no idea who these imaginary people are you are talking about.
Illinidiva on January 10, 2013 at 12:03 PM
Team obama and his liberals are going to keep pushing Chris Christie as a GOP presidential candidate, just as they pushed Jon Huntsman. The democrat party would like nothing more than to convince Republican voters to select a raging RINO lib in 2016. But, ultimately, it’s not going to matter – 2016 will be the year of the CONSERVATIVE third party candidate. The GOP has destroyed itself by pushing conservatives away and coalescing around ultra-progressives and liberals like Christie (and in my opinion, Rubio). The conservative break-away is going to rapid over the next few months, and the 2016 campaigns will start soon.

Christie-Medved 2016.
You wants RINO? We gots RINO.

If people want a liberal they will vote Democratic.

Who’s gonna fall for that?…
Gohawgs on January 10, 2013 at 12:21 PM
Medved is totally Team Rubio. (And yes that is a Twilight reference.)

I’ll vote for Christie to get the nomination. It’s what the Republican Party needs to denigrate and make way for a limited government party.
elfman on January 10, 2013 at 12:26 PM
That large chunk has voted solid liberal for decades now. They’ve been gone a long time.

I like big fat men like you. When they fall they make more noise. And sometimes they don’t get up.

Because he reminds people of Howard Taft??
ToddPA on January 10, 2013 at 12:58 PM
I often said I’d never pull the lever for Romney were he to win the nomination, but I did in the end.
But after the way Christie stabbed Romney in the back and helped hand the election to Obama, I mean it this time: I will never, EVER vote for this fat POS if he wins the GOP nod. No matter who the Dem nominee is.
DRayRaven on January 10, 2013 at 1:00 PM
Is this the point where a sincere Baba Wawa asks Christie, “If you were a tree, what kind would you be?”
Christie is a bombastic opportunist. Leaders don’t lead by imposing their wills on others, especially with the biggest megaphone (including fawning media). Real leaders are persuasive.
onlineanalyst on January 10, 2013 at 1:02 PM
If Christie does throw his hat into the ring, expect the left to crack stupid with Taft and tub jokes.
Logus on January 10, 2013 at 1:12 PM
Ha! I see what you did there!
lucyvanpelt on January 10, 2013 at 1:24 PM
That effort is worthwhile only if we can get a limited government candidacy up and running in time.
lucyvanpelt on January 10, 2013 at 1:27 PM
We’re on the same wavelength on this. Logical only if we get that conservative candidacy in place.
lucyvanpelt on January 10, 2013 at 1:30 PM
Because Fournier is a liberal.
Jaibones on January 10, 2013 at 1:30 PM
Because he is the only republican in the country who could possibly lose to Biden in 2016.
