Obama and allies working to tilt public opinion on gun control
The White House is working with its allies on a well-financed campaign in Washington and around the country to shift public opinion toward stricter gun laws and provide political cover to lawmakers who end up voting for an assault-weapons ban or other firearm restrictions. …
The groups, whose leaders are in regular contact with the White House, are working to enlist religious leaders, mayors, police chiefs and other influential constituents to lobby their local lawmakers in their home districts. The organizations also plan to stage rallies at congressional town hall meetings across the country in much the same way tea party activists mounted opposition in 2009 to Obama’s health-care overhaul.
A trial run for the burgeoning campaign came this week when the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence ran hard-hitting ads in North Dakota and Capitol Hill newspapers against Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.), who said Sunday that some of the gun measures Obama is considering are “extreme.” After the ads — which told Heitkamp “Shame on you” — the freshman senator’s office issued a statement opening the door to supporting some gun-control measures. …
Other organizations active in the effort include liberal interest groups, labor unions and Mayors Against Illegal Guns, which is led and financed by New York Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg (I).

Though its funny….a lot of what Alex Jones had to say (outside of the 9/11 truther crap) was smart, factual and cogent critique of the relationship between global capital, armed violence against civilians and the limited contours of what can and can not be said on national television. If he had just stopped from screaming “suicide pills!” like a loon, he may have been able to make a really strong argument about how the corporate media protects its interests while scapegoating others. Why did he decide to go so coo coo for cocoa puffs? A wasted and lost opportunity.

Does it scare anybody else that the WH has “allies”.
Man she caved and fast.

Chicago Community Agitator attempts to force highly successful Chicago gun laws on the rest of the country… Forward!
visions on January 10, 2013 at 8:19 AM
Gee, if only there were an alternative mainstream media outlet that would push the facts about armed citizens into the public conversation… but that won’t happen. So expect your rights to erode away.
beatcanvas on January 10, 2013 at 8:21 AM
Good luck repealing the Bill of Rights.
There is nothing irrational about pointing out that what you’re advocating is shredding the Bill of Rights for no other reason than you’re a knee-jerk reactionary who thinks Obama is a king and not a public servant bound by limits on his power.

Other than that though, damn these people are relentless. Time to cowboy up…

I don’t know if libfreeordie mis-typed but he said that the gun control advocates were off their rockers. libfreeordie might actually be on the right side of this at least as far as policy goes. He at least knows that the strictest gun control has done nothing to curb urban violence.

Notice it says “Obama and allies”. Remember the good old days when America had “allies”, not just the guy in charge?:)

Let’s get to the endgame already.
roy_batty on January 10, 2013 at 8:31 AM
Here’s something about liberals I don’t get: large corporations are evil and corrupt and wield too much power over our lives so the solution is an all powerful and corrupted state that wields absolute power over the lives of it’s citizens?
gwelf on January 10, 2013 at 8:32 AM
Now we get to see what Holder/Obama was going to try and hit us with before Fast & Furious went all FUBAR on them and ruined their plans. Holder can finally dust them off and show us.
FireFly on January 10, 2013 at 8:34 AM
If only these clowns put as much effort into passing a budget as they do in pushing this senseless nonsense.
But we know now that any semblance of responsibility, stability and normalcy are actually toxic to their agenda.
They need everyone in a constant agitated, nervous state so they can be more easily manipulated by the blustering anthropoids in the administration working ceaselessly through their media echo chambers.
They manufacture and cause ‘crises’ at every turn and opportunity, then present themselves as the ‘solution.’ The economy. The environment. Second Amendment rights. Etc.
Now they are targeting the Bill of Rights, namely because it stands in the way of their political goals.

Yep, they’re just shifting power from one type of “1%” to another. Since they only grasp half of what needs to be done, I chalk it up to them having only half a brain.

D’uuuuuhh!1! Unlimited power is only bad when its used for bad stuff, like rightwing and capitalistic stuff. When you re part of the rainbow-unicorn-poop-coalition you only want to use power for good stuff, like puppy cuddling, unemployment benefits and gun control! And then its absolutely okay!!11! Its like having a fluffy-funny dictator!!!

Not at all. Corruption is endemic to all society’s to an extent, but the country’s with the least corruption are also far left in their orientation
1) Denmark
1) Finland
1) New Zealand
4) Sweden
5) Singapore
And this is because the democratic process can correct for corruption provided that corporations do not have too much control over the process. In the U.S. corporate interests have total control over the vast majority of our legislators, so of course, the state is corrupt and inefficient.

The leftists seem incapable of understanding the fact that many thousands of people are preparing to do very nasty things to them if they’re actually stupid enough to go through with this.
single stack on January 10, 2013 at 9:01 AM
Democrats need a big boogyman to fight so they can grab more power. Even though most Big Business is in the tank for Democrats they are the ‘bad guy’ democrats use to grab power.
This happens all over the world with the bad guy changing to fit individual circumstance but power hungry statists use whatever they can to grab power. Muslims use Jews as an excuse to grab power, socialist countries use the US as an excuse to grab power, Democrats use Big Business as an excuse to grab power…in the end they are at heart the same, power hungry statists who want control over your entire lives, down to the food you eat and making sure you think ‘correctly’.
Each country has different circumstance and the intelligent tyrants adjust their power grabs accordingly.
One common thread is the control over the media. If anyone doesn’t think this gun grab won’t work are deluding themselves. It might not work this year but maybe five years from now it will. The Supreme Court is almost compromised. The education system puts out illiterate, hate-filled (against Republicans), greedy liberals.
Fight now. Organize and fight or everything you cherish will be gone. Our soil is not magical. Tyrany can come here too.
GardenGnome on January 10, 2013 at 9:08 AM
And that is, of course, what we see in the U.S. as well: the least corrupt states and cities are also the most liberal:
1)Chicago
2)Illinois
3)California
4)New Orleans
5)Maryland

Corruption is rampant everywhere. The more power a single entity has the more corruption runs free.
The problem with useful idiots like libfree is that they get their news from left wing sources so they have no clue how much corruption occurs on their side. Statists take over the media and keep out inconvinent stories. Corruption is rampant in every socialist society.
Pelosi, Reid, Obama and every other top Democrat aren’t incredibly rich for nothing. Libfree probably doesn’t even care that these democrats are corrupt and doesn’t even know the ways (Obama having the US buy his books, hire his wife to a sham job in Chicago, favorable house deals, Pelosi getting kickbacks for not bringing up legislation, insider trading, Reid with his magical rezoning).
The bigger the government the more corruption you have. Many democrats even know this, they just want to be the ones getting some of the corrupt goods.

According to whose stats, the UN’s? LOL That’s about as meaningful as an endorsement from the Nobel and Pulitzer and Academy Award ™ committees.
By the way, Finland has a high incidence of gun deaths and Singapore’s pretty much an authoritarian mini-state.

A club to suck vacations out of taxpayers.
Who cares about mayors? 95% of them are single term people and have 0% influence. The only reason Bloomberg gets attention is because he is a media whore.
Well, if they did they wouldn’t be idiots.

So why did you leave out all of the other “far left in their orientation” countries that are much more corrupt than the US (19th)? You’ve seen the map, right?
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/worldviews/files/2012/12/Screen-shot-2012-12-05-at-12.17.00-PM.png
Don’t those numbers have a place in your “the country’s with the least corruption are also far left in their orientation” argument, too? Or should they just be ignored?
One might think our 19th place, ahead of “far left in their orientation”
Cuba (58),
Panama (83), and
Venezuela (165)
is worth celebrating considering such an enormous and diverse population, “corporate interests (having) total control over the vast majority of our legislators”, and hardly a “far left orientation”.
Right?
