WH drug czar: We’re having a national conversation about marijuana now
“Thank you for participating in ‘We the People’ and speaking out on the legalization of marijuana,” Kerlikowske wrote. “Coming out of the recent election, it is clear that we’re in the midst of a serious national conversation about marijuana.”
Kerlikowske cited President Obama’s own remarks to Barbara Walters last month asserting that it “does not make sense from a prioritization point of view for us to focus on recreational drug users” in states that have legalized marijuana.

Fine. We’ll log you as no interest in crack and ecstacy dealers in Colorado. (Pot use seems to have put the zap on your complete congative abilities.)

“Barack, stop Bogarting the joints, man!”
Ward Cleaver on January 9, 2013 at 12:33 PM
Totally, dude – because nothing else matters.
Hey Barky don’t bogart my joint. Wait, that’s not a joint – he’s smoking my dog.
CorporatePiggy on January 9, 2013 at 12:35 PM
Dude, like, pot is good for you, man! It, like, has no nicotine or other unnatural chemicals to pollute your body. It’s all that other big corporate stuff you smoke like cigarettes that’s bad for you.
Besides, give me one instance of a pot user that ever committed a violent crime, dude.

More like the States are having a conversation and you aren’t allowing them to exercise their rights.
VinceOfDoom on January 9, 2013 at 12:37 PM
The HotAir opposition to the Federal legalization of marijuana continues to confuse me.
Even if you think it should be illegal it seems pretty clear to me that there is no constitutional role for the Federal government in it.
(PS Never smoked a joint or even a nicotine cigarette in my life)

Not quite. The “national conversation” is just another way of saying that We The People are busy choosing the winner of America’s Next Top Thing That Barack Obama Will Support To Gain Votes®.
Obama has been using us to trial balloon the next thing he might (or might not) come out in full and unambiguous support of. If there had been a MASSIVE backlash against Joe Biden for jumping the gun and supporting gay marriage, Obama would’ve had to throw him under the bus, denounce the immorality of homosexuality, and pick another veep candidate.

What a waste of federal money and time.
10th amendment rules here – leave drug policy as a state issue.
Seven Seas on January 9, 2013 at 1:22 PM
Hey Minty, not just his support, but this is paving the way (along with the banking squeeze) to release thousands of blacks from Federal pen for “drug Charges”. You can’t supply amnesty and Presidential Pardons until the ground has been prepared. Remember the angst over the disproportional number of blacks in prison? Remember the studies that show that Grass is “better” for you than cigarettes? Remember that Eric Holder carries around with him a paper that says that blacks are all in this together against the White Man’s Law? Then there are the credit and lending push to clear blacks for loans (again) despite their credit history and their felony records because of its “Disparate Impact” on blacks.
All preparing the ground.
Obama needs soldiers for his Urban Army. They are available at the stroke of a pen.

There are very few prisoners in for simple possession, and nearly all would be state and not federal prisoners.
Seven Seas on January 9, 2013 at 1:32 PM
Actually I’ve heard of plenty of simple possession cases where it was a Federal crime; primarily when the possessor crossed a state line to buy the product and then returned home to consume it. That’s “Interstate Transport”.
If you were a marijuana user, and had a friend living in a nearby state who could get you the same product (or a better quality product) for the same or a lower price in his location, wouldn’t you consider taking them up on the offer and crossing state lines to procure it?
Del Dolemonte on January 9, 2013 at 1:45 PM
But, but, but……….gateway drug!!!!!!!
State issue, along with numerouse other issues that big bad uncle in D.C. can’t seem to leave it alone.
Whatever, at this point we will NEVER shrink the Federal Government!
D-fusit on January 9, 2013 at 2:16 PM
I doubt black leadership would go along with ANY kind of drug legalization, seeing as the proliferation of drugs in the inner cities and black community-at-large nearly destroyed them from the inside.
