Poll: Americans skeptical of the trillion-dollar platinum coin
Few Americans have heard about a proposal to mint a $1 trillion platinum coin in order to address the nation’s debt problems if an agreement to avert a debt ceiling crisis is not reached, but a new HuffPost/YouGov poll finds that they are skeptical of the idea.
Thirty-eight percent of Americans surveyed in the new poll said they disapprove of the platinum coin proposal, while only 19 percent said they approve. Forty-three percent said they aren’t sure about the option. …
But Americans have heard very little about the proposal, with 55 percent of survey respondents saying that they’ve heard nothing at all about the platinum coin, 26 percent saying they’ve heard a little and only 7 percent saying they’ve heard a lot about it.

19% approve–now I have a pretty good approximation of the brain dead portion of the population.

Skeptical?
Did they report on the people who laughed out loud when they asked them about it.
No hope I swear – there is no hope for half of the population.

How many were unwilling to answer because the Idol tryouts were going on?

They’re not sure if it’ll mean their “something for nothing” check will still keep coming, I’d imagine. And yeah we ARE in trouble.

From the Obama Administration’s perspective, that’s PERFECT. Nobody’s paying attention.
Slam it through with no consultation of the opposition in the dead of night, or executive order, and then pretend you fixed the problem the next day.

Written another way, 62% of those polled have no concept of basic economics. This is truly scary if it is representative of the country as a whole, and after the last election I fear it is.

There’s nothing wrong with this plan, assuming that Obama can personally supply the 20,000 tons of platinum it will take to make a coin that’s actually worth a trillion dollars. We’ll call it even.
On the other hand, if he’s just planning to embezzle that much value from the American money supply, then yeah, I’ll have a problem with that.

God I hope the Democrats do this. I hope they mint thousands of them. Yeah, they’ll blame conservatives for “forcing” them to do something stupid as usual, but this time it will literally have Obama’s face on it.

i can understand if many people haven’t heard about it, it’s not like it’s a hugely important news story- it’s just a silly story.
but the fact that 19% approve and 43% aren’t sure (which means they actually think the idea might have at least some chance of working) bothers me. you know, this is one reason why our debt is so high. it’s not just because of government. it’s also because many americans don’t know how the economy works. they are uninformed about important economic issues.
(although, the media is doing a fine job of informing the people///)

Wonder what % of those interviewed believe they are entitled to one of those coins?
I still think the coins should be made of plutonium to discourage theft.
