Meanwhile, Kreger said another sister, Suzanne Smith, was with their mother at her home. Edna Kreger had dementia and was under hospice care.
Kreger said Smith woke up early Saturday morning and strongly felt the presence of their father.
Later that morning, she took a shower. When she got out, Edna Kreger had died.
“We’re not approaching this as an event to be mourned,” Kreger said.. “It’s an event to be celebrated. As Christians, we believe life has not ended. It’s just changed.”

When my grandpa died a few years ago, my grandmother was in a nursing home and suffering from dementia (probably not able to understand that he had died). She died in the nursing home while his funeral service was going on in another town.
I bet things like this are more common than you’d think.

It happens far more often than we know.
My paternal grandfather died in the spring, just before Easter, and my grandmother died less than two months later.
According to her nurse at the bedside, the last word she said was my grandfather’s name.

My father-in-law passed away in the summer of 2009. My mother-in-law laid down for a little nap before the 2:00 PM funeral vigil and never woke up. We had a double funeral. In life, they did everything together so it seemed natural and fitting that they embarked on their afterlife together, too.
