Want an entitlement state? Then it’s time for the middle class to pay up
So what happens if we continue down the current path, with perhaps some small amount of revenue raised from some additional taxes on the rich? Remember, the only way to finance a big European-style state is to have it paid for by massive taxation of everyone, mostly the middle class. Right now we are avoiding honest debate on this fact, perhaps because those desirous of this change know the middle class would rebel if it saw the future bill it will have to pay. Instead, large government benefits are being continued and increased, and still new ones introduced, with little accurate discussion of who will ultimately pay.
What happens historically when benefits are bestowed without a bill also coming due is that we get hooked on them. Then, even when they become disasters not worth their cost, people are terrified to change them, as giving something up is indeed quite frightening.
Of course, as a byproduct of this growth in the state, many of us believe we also suffer a terrific erosion of liberty, free-enterprise, and individual responsibility and initiative.
Finally, after we become fully addicted to the latest increase in big government, the bill will ultimately be presented to everyone including, and in all likelihood over-emphasizing, the middle class and the poor. The people who were promised they would be untouched will see the largest proportional hikes. That’s exactly what has happened in Europe. We have seen this movie before, but this time we don’t need subtitles.
In other words, if we told everyone the ultimate destination right now, the country would likely reject it. But if built up in this piecemeal manner with benefits up front and the bill presented later, it can become reality.
The way to boil the frog of freedom is slowly.

How about a society wherein you don’t work, you don’t eat.

Liberals still have yet to start paying for their decisions en masse. When their reality check bounces, things will get very ugly.

The middle class stands in the way of a socialist ruling elite.
It must be destroyed.

Some of the liberals here at work don’t like me pointing out that, inorder to pay for Obama’s government expansion, we really need to raise taxes on everyone, as well as get rid of tax exemptions for things like mortgages.
And they REALLY don’t like it when I tell them that they need to get used to the fact that Obama won.

Duh.
Duh.
And don’t leave out the part about the necessary scapegoats when the whole thing falls apart. The fascists will need a manufactured enemy to toss out when the mobs are at the gates. Who will fill those gulags the hungry, homeless people will be screaming for? Who will it be? Place your bets…

Um, we already were and we’re getting to pay even more this year. I guess I’m one of obama’s rich that he needs to soak.

All, please read important notice from payroll regarding payroll taxes.
Please be aware of the following changes to payroll for 2013. The first change will be immediate starting with January 4th payroll. The second will probably be noticed on the February 1st payroll.
1. Over the past two years there has been a temporary reduction in the Social Security payroll tax for all employees. The reduced rate was 4.20%. This ended as of December 31, 2012 because legislation did not pass the temporary reduction. We will be going back to the 6.20% for social security for all employees for taxable wages up to $113,700.
2. Payroll will be receiving an update for State Tax changes around January 15th.
If you have any questions, please contact me.
Thank you,

Work is such a harsh statement.
How about a statement along the lines of, if you do not produce value for someone, you do not eat.
My child does not work, but has value to me… Same for my wife, even if she chooses to ignore the house.
My concern is that the chain of responsibility.
Self, Immediate Family, Extended Family, Friends, Community, Charity.
Ends before any entity is government.
Otherwise, What this guy said!!!

Harlots on the dole, pay up!!!

They’ll give us the entitlements first. Once 51% are hooked, we have to start paying. Just like a savvy drug dealer.

So if I dont want that, I can opt out, yes?

The proposed quintupling of the sales tax on pencils and apples when sold by the incredibly shrinking and struggling middle class should bring in massive revenue.

It is a very interesting coincidence that some ‘conservatives’ have so recently discovered the merits of surrendering to drugs and libertarians have made such a recent surge.
Somebody, somewhere, is very busy making payments and pulling strings, and I would give my childhood books to know who.
Our would-be enslavers have had ~100 years to observe the effects of mass usage of addictive drugs for entertainment purposes. If they haven’t observed that one of the effects is that the populace becomes too stupefied to fight tyranny, than my mother was a duck-billed platypus.

The middle class is paying. So are the so-called ‘rich.’ There’s only one class that is paying nothing, but getting everything. It’s time for them to start paying their fair share.

2 Thessalonians 3:10
For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat.

Logically, they would have to pay for the benefits, but isn’t the point to confer benefits on a group that pays little into a system from a group that pays much more? It wouldn’t be socialism if this were not so.
mintycrys on January 8, 2013 at 11:30 PM
Nope, socialism is compulsory for everyone…especially the producers.
