Rick Perry’s second chance
If Texas GOP Gov. Rick Perry is serious about running again for president – he has said he might take another bite at the apple in 2016 – or even running for re-election in 2014, the business of rehabilitating his damaged political brand will begin in earnest Tuesday when the legislative session opens.
From a Houston Chronicle report:
The legislative session that opens Tuesday will give Gov. Rick Perry a chance to burnish his credentials if he chooses to make another run for president in 2016. …
“On the one hand, Reagan, Bush, McCain, and Romney all lost on their first nomination try, and they came back to fight and win another day. The problem for Perry is that he crossed a line from contender to punch line,” said University of New Hampshire political scientist Dante Scala. “My guess is that the window is closed for Perry.”

I’m on record as being against Jindal for that reason as well as some of the smarminess that has come out in the past months. I was just pointing out that Jindal isn’t a conservative.

No, snookums. It’s called “being human”. But of course come 2016 you’ll be out there banging the drum for whatever glib GOPe-approved talking-points machine is out there.

He was the only presidential contender that went on the record as a Hot Gas reader!

I don’t get you.
You whine and say you aren’t going to vote because you are tired of losing, yet you shoot everybody down 4 years before the next election.
As for Palin/Perry not being able to string two sentences together in an intelligent manner – I think you need to do a little more research before you state something so blatantly false.

Well, we had two of the cleanest, most articulate hyper-electable hyper-intellectuals EVAH run on the GOP ticket in 2012. They lost, miserably.

No that was a potatoe moment (See Quayle, Dan). And yes screwing up like that and becoming a laughing stock is a bit worse than being human. Any CEO knows that you don’t get to do that.
Of the candidates listed, the only one with a plausible possibility of becoming President is Bobby Jindal. And he has decided to triangulate ala Bill Clinton so he isn’t a conservative.
Palin is not happening. Indies hate her. Perry has effectively become Dan Quayle. Rand Paul will take over from his father and run for President for the next 20+ years in order to get 10% of the vote.

I just LOVE this stuff though that goes something like:
“I am SO SICK and TIRED of glib, oily, smooth-talking politicians…”
And then out of the other side of the mouth:
“He/she made a mistake!! He/she will NEVER be elected EVER EVER!!!!11111!!!!”
ddrintn on January 8, 2013 at 11:45 AM
Huh? Where are your data to support this?
The only one with a plausible possibility to win the presidency is the one who can fire up the base. NONE of the pre-approved candidates can do that.

So, you’re following MSM memes in deciding who’s “electable”? (See jellyfish, spineless.)
ddrintn on January 8, 2013 at 11:49 AM
No.. See coherent.

Or so the media would have you believe.
By most measures he has been a highly effective and successful governor. Yes the TransTexas highway was a fantastically bad idea but a) most non Texans never heard of it and b) he did eventually drop it.

Lol, do you want me to be explicit? Jindal, Palin, Ryan, Rubio and whatever rising stars ain’t gonna win the ’16 nomination. It’ll be someone who ran in ’12. Jeez, sometimes, being the practical and pragmatic is more difficult than just hoping. Lol. Santorum, anybody?

Perry was my guy in 2012. He will still be my guy in 2016 if he decides to run.
One bad debate after surgery while on pain medication shouldn’t derail someone with so much leadership and experience.
cptacek on January 8, 2013 at 12:32 PM
Yes, I agree with this. Do your job and do it well.
cptacek on January 8, 2013 at 12:33 PM
At the end of the day, the GOP WILL go for retreads. Thats plain fact. However good you’re doing ain’t gonna win you the nomination. Try in ’16, and if the your guy/gal loses, you’ll have a better chance in ’20.
tommy71 on January 8, 2013 at 12:41 PM
Ummm.. So you actually want the Republicans to lose in a landslide, which is what will happen with Santorum. Are you a Democratic troll?
Illinidiva on January 8, 2013 at 12:48 PM
So, he’s either a drug-addled fool or just a fool.
Romney was my guy. He lost and turned out to be a wuss of a loser. Letting his sons whine on his behalf in public was shameful. His post-election antics and abandonment of the partly responsible for the deep-divide.
That being said, I’d take the educated, accomplished Romney over treestump-dumb Perry every day of the week. The man is on on record quasi-favoring s&cession. That makes him an un-American quitter in my book. That goes for the rest of you lunkheads talking the same crap around here.
Swalker and other brain-dead moronss talking about lynching people are his constituency. Join those losers if you want. I choose America and will never support those who stand against Her.
