The world’s most extreme tourist
He takes his time getting his shots right, as the rebels he hangs out with shout from both sides of the street: “Run! Run! There are snipers. Run!”
But he ignores them, finishes shooting and casually walks away with photos that he will later post on his Facebook page to share with his friends.
“I’m not a target for snipers because I’m a tourist, not like you journalists,” he told a reporter. “Besides, I’m not afraid if they shoot at me or that they might kill me. I’m a combination of samurai and kamikaze.”
Fujimoto won’t even wear a helmet or a flack jacket.
“They are very heavy when it comes to running and it’s more fun to go to the front without anything. Besides, when they shoot it’s fun and exciting.”
Fujimoto said his employers don’t know he’s in Syria.

He’s suicidal. He’s trying to commit suicide by “front line” picture taking.

He doesn’t want to wear Jay Carney’s sport coat? Or do they mean a flak jacket?
Drained Brain on January 7, 2013 at 12:47 PM
That’s why he does it. :-/
The man needs some hope.

Can I come to this man’s funeral?
BigGator5 on January 7, 2013 at 12:53 PM
yep! but his fearlessness of death makes him look like a true samurai, although there is sad reasons motivating him, also, like a tragic samurai story…

I want to ask everyone a simple question:
Have you ever fantasize, even if briefly, about dropping everything and join the rebels in Syria?
Well, Fujimoto is just living the dream. I, for one, salute him.

I respect it. Most people in this world, especially the USA, live a boring life. When they die, they look back and only see years of watching TV and buying useless things. But this man lives on the edge, and as such he is actually living life.

joining rebels in syria? no way, too much snackbars for my taste. in the beginning there were some good rebels, now its just ugly sectarian war.
nathor on January 7, 2013 at 1:05 PM
Somehow it never occurred to me before. But now that you mention it…
DarkCurrent on January 7, 2013 at 1:07 PM
if you read the whole story, he is really trying to end his life to have his life insurance go to his daughters… but if he continues, he will make more money out of his fame, crazzzyyy
nathor on January 7, 2013 at 1:09 PM
Simple answer…no, I have a life.

…Said Isoroku Yamamoto as the P-38′s opened fire on his plane.
Seriously, though, the Japanese SDF should recruit this guy. Anybody with balls that big would be handy when the Chinese come pouring across the straight.
Walter Sobchak on January 7, 2013 at 1:11 PM
Most life insurance has a clause not to pay regarding an “act of war”, or of suicide and now that he has made that claim, the claims of suicide would be pretty easy to prove.

Reminds me of an old Japanese friend that used to tell people he was a kamikaze pilot for Japan during the war, he flew 13 missions….most would nod their head in amazement.
right2bright on January 7, 2013 at 1:13 PM
I hope he consulted some layer about his insurance policy before going on with this plan…

i just tried to be his friend on facebook and it gave “he had too many requests”.

I think I found this guy on Twitter: @FujimotoNp
Please note that I could be wrong. Take this with a grain of salt.
BigGator5 on January 7, 2013 at 1:26 PM
@BigGator5: I’m pretty sure Woody Allen made a movie along those lines.
Seth Halpern on January 7, 2013 at 1:27 PM
Must not have been a very good kamikaze, either that or he’s a great liar and most people are oblivious to history as kamikaze pilots were to make themselves and their plane a fuel laden bomb – no return trip.
Logus on January 7, 2013 at 2:08 PM
Psst! I think that was the point.
GWB on January 7, 2013 at 2:23 PM
They have robots for that now.
