Report: White House weighing broader-than-expected gun-control push
The White House is weighing a far broader and more comprehensive approach to curbing the nation’s gun violence than simply reinstating an expired ban on assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition, according to multiple people involved in the administration’s discussions.
A working group led by Vice President Biden is seriously considering measures backed by key law enforcement leaders that would require universal background checks for firearm buyers, track the movement and sale of weapons through a national database, strengthen mental health checks, and stiffen penalties for carrying guns near schools or giving them to minors, the sources said.
To sell such changes, the White House is developing strategies to work around the National Rifle Association that one source said could include rallying support from Wal-Mart and other gun retailers for measures that would benefit their businesses. White House aides have also been in regular contact with advisers to New York Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg (I), an outspoken gun-control advocate who could emerge as a powerful surrogate for the Obama administration’s agenda…
In addition to potential legislative proposals, Biden’s group has expanded its focus to include measures that would not need congressional approval and could be quickly implemented by executive action, according to interest-group leaders who have discussed options with Biden and key Cabinet secretaries. Possibilities include changes to federal mental-health programs and modernization of gun-tracking efforts by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

I suspect that somewhere in Obamacare, the law Pelosi said we had to pass to find out what’s in it, is a provision that fines you for not answering truthfully.

Then, the Republican’s should preempt them and introduce the new Save America’s Children Act blocking a rise in the debt limit without “fundamental transformation” of America’s entitlement programmes, reformation of government’s scope and bureaucracy, a balanced budget amendment, and a new amendment that requires 25% of all revenues to go toward debt reduction until the debt is retired.

One thing that has always comforted me about the federal government is their eternal incompetence. They’d likely screw something like that up like nobody’s business. Which would just accelerate the backlash.
Not to mention, the more they monitor the less useful it is. Too much data hides what you’re looking for, at least until AI becomes capable of managing advanced, complex data sets like that. Which barring some sort of major advancement like quantum computing is unlikely in the near future.

I will never turn in my weapons or register myself as a gun owner.
If this gun grab doesn’t wake more people up to the truth about the Left, i.e. that they are tyrants, then nothing will.
If we can’t defeat them politically now, then we my be forced, by them, to defeat them physically later.

No, but here’s how the “registering” will work: Most folks who are longtime gun owners are simply NOT going to go down to any government office to register their legally purchased guns (and pay what will certainly be the attendant — and exorbitant — “registration fees”), so when they use those guns, say to shoot a violent intruder, the GUN OWNER will be prosecuted.
And can you just IMAGINE the fascist glee with which those DNR rent-a-cops will be stopping folks dragging a deer out of the woods — not to check for a huntin’ license (to use Joanna Kerry’s terminology), but to check for long gun registration‚ and then CONFISCATE, CONFISCATE, CONFISCATE! Think you’ll ever get your gun back? Nope.
Oh, and Chief Justice John Roberts? He’ll be fine and dandy with it all.

Progressives use terms like Broad and Sweeping change. The American people freak out and push back.
Then the progressives settle for a piece of the original idea and the right go along thinking it’s not infringing on anyone’s rights.
After more than 7 decades of this technique, and little left but a facade of liberty remaining, you’d think people would catch on….

What matters most now is we must make sure the GOP house sticks to their guns (literally and figuratively). If you have a GOP rep in your district make sure they know they must stand hard for our rights. This is really the case if you see them go wobbly or grow weak. The same goes for democrats in conservative districts in the house and those Dem senators that come from states that support gun rights.
If Obama tries to go outside of congress on any of this…it is civil disobedience time. We need to rally around each other and around the NRA, even if you are not a fan of them all the time. We can’t just defend our rights by being a bunch of individuals marching to our own drummer. That is fine in normal circumstances but these are not normal circumstances and it is clear the progressive left are getting aggressive to the point of insanity.
Hopefully this is the point the Obama train at last over reaches politically, but I fear Obama and progressives may not care and will push ahead anyway. This country is so divided regionally now it is scary and blue state lunatics are convinced they can win outside of our system of government. If Obama does push forward outside of congress god help this country for it will be ugly.

I’ve been using Greece as kind of a guide as to what to expect moving forward as our own country collapses. Given that Greece hasn’t revolted, any similar action in our own country is a decade or more off.
Revolt is usually preceeded by some sign of weakness in the regime. The Soviet regime fell when it became economically and militarily weak and due to Gorbachev trying to liberalize and open up the country.
Right now Obama is moving in the OPPOSITE direction. He is getting stronger and stronger and his opposition is becoming weaker and weaker. There isn’t going to be any revolt from the right. Even if he issues an EO outright confiscating guns, no one is going to do anything – would you put your family and children and comfortable life at risk of physical harm for your right to bear arms? I bet very few will.
If there is a revolt against the regime, it will come from the welfare-dependent classes who are completely reliant on the Federal Government and aren’t afraid to use violence to get what they want. This will happen if the welfare checks stop coming and EBT cards stop working.
You won’t see revolt before.

Meanwhile what is the status on the mass killer Major Hassan? or Fast and Furious?
This one strikes me as particularly stupid. What are the authorities going to do to Adam Lanza under this guideline?
Schools are soft targets for terroristic threats. Remember what happened in Beslan? It would be far better to have responsible gun-owning staff in schools to stop mayhem before the authorities can arrive on the scene.
Emotionalism is guiding this push toward draconian measures.
The murder rates appear to be statistically higher in areas where weapons are in the hands of gangs and criminals. Those elements are already not complying with the law, and the powers-that-be seem to be ignoring a problem that is in their power to lessen with existing laws.

Walmart or any other retailer who cooperates with this needs to feel the wrath.
I have a bad feeling about all of this. Hopefully it will backfire on them as it always has. But since O was reelected I’ve lost confidence in the citizens. Contact your legislators and give money to the gun rights orgs. Never surrender.
The American rev0 lootion was touched off by attempted powder confiscation. The Texas rev0 looshun was touched off by attempted cannon confiscation. I’m not saying that will happen now, but I am saying that the people will be pushed to the limits of our tolerance by this meddling. Just leave us the EFF alone.
Come and take it.

Heller won’t be touched or threatened.
It’s not about rights. It’s about information. They want a database. Their tactic is intimidation and fear. They know confiscation is out of the question. But fear of ever having to use it and not being registered. Fear of not “being legal” is enough to drive some to turn them in. A database is enough for many to go wobbly. Piece by piece…tactic by tactic. Fear and intimidation. It’s how tyrants work.

Republicans ought to get out there first with “do something” gun legislation:
– Tie related state funding assistance to the establishment of shall issue laws,
– Tie related municipal funding to shall issue laws,
– Tie education funding to dedicated spending on firearm education, training, possession and right to carry for defensive purposes along with guidance on applying for CCW permits,
– A new law which can be called No School Left Defenseless Act, tying school funding to the satisfactory merging of armed security into their school safety programs and protocols,
– A new law codifying penalties for government employees who deny citizens their 2nd amendment rights, with a special emphasis on penalties for conspiracy.

What will you do to defend them from the inevitable coercion that will have to face? It’s easy to say screw them if they wobble or fold, but they will always be able to acquiesce to government pressure and adapt yours than the other way around.
And when it comes to thoughts revenge, the public has a much shorter memory, on average, than politicians and government bureaucrats.
Dusty on January 5, 2013 at 10:03 PM
Not true. Obama is president of a divided country and his actions are only making it worse. It is divided regionally as well so there areas were only one side is in total control. That is not a sign of power. Yes Obama has a slim majority of people in this country willing to vote for him, but not enough to make a big difference if a national meltdown took place.
Revolutions start not from the lower classes, but from the middle class. The American Revolution was started by a bunch of property owners with family and money. You don’t think George Washington or John Adams were living well by 18th century standards? This is why Chinese government treads lightly when the upper middle class in China gets upset with something, but just crushes any decent from the lower classes. The Chinese government knows the greatest danger is ticking off the middle class, because they are smart enough that they actually might organize and win a revolution.
