The character assassination of Hillary Clinton
Besides, you can’t have it every which way. Immediately after the Benghazi attacks, Clinton took full responsibility for the events and was accused by Republicans of falling on her sword to protect President Obama. Now that she’s temporarily indisposed and unable to elaborate on her admitted responsibility, those same critics insist she’s trying to avoid taking personal responsibility.
The viciousness of the pundit class is disheartening and disgusting. And these days everyone’s a pundit. Got an opinion? Why, step right up to the microphone. If you’re “good TV,” you too can be a “contributor.”
Out in the hinterlands, where Americans consume “news” that suits their political proclivities, opinions are formed on the basis of what-he-said. Reputations and lives are ruined on the tines of pitchforks glimmering in the light of torch-bearing mobs. And those are just the “news” shows.

No assignation. Hillary’s character committed suicide long ago.

She took full responsibility? What?

assignation? assignation.
29Victor on January 2, 2013 at 12:02 PM
“Taking responsibility” would nave meant resigning on the spot. It’s funny how “taking responsibility” means saying a few words and then waiting for it all to go away.

Hillary never had character.
She now also has blood on her hands.
KP is always a fool.

Misinterpeted headline. Thought this was supposed to be about character assassination as practiced by Ms. Clinton and her surogates. (Say, Ms. Parker…)
apostic on January 2, 2013 at 12:08 PM
If this was any Republican that was in their late 60′s, a question about how “healthy” they are would be first and foremost…just how healthy is Hillary to continue in a high stress job?
This eliminates her for any chance of being a contender for any “high” office. She is too fragile to be in a position of power and important decision making…
right2bright on January 2, 2013 at 12:09 PM
The world used to envy the US but respect her.
Now the world just laughs at you, fools.
KP, we owe no one a thing. You are a nitwit.

Gee Kathleen, that’s the same thing I thought when you spent months devoting column after column to trashing and assasinating the character of Sarah Palin. I was never the big Sarah fan some on this board were but that doesn’t mean I didn’t recognize a smear job when I saw one. What a hypocrite.
tommyboy on January 2, 2013 at 12:11 PM
She took full responsibility? Really? She said she did which is good enough for politicians and journalists. But why didn’t she resign? Or who did she fire? What inter-department butt kicking did she do in order to fix the bureaucratic and political mess at the heart of the Benghazi debacle?
gwelf on January 2, 2013 at 12:11 PM
Right. And so questioning the course of events – in which our Secretary of State (who is doubly entitled to Secret Service protection) contracts a stomach flu and is so neglected that she becomes dehydrated and falls on her head – is character assassination, especially given her previous intransigence on Benghazi and her predisposition to using her “frailty” as a shield against criticism (crying in New Hampshire, anyone?).
You love her so much, join her staff like Huma Weiner, Kathleen.
KingGold on January 2, 2013 at 12:12 PM
She doesn’t have doctors? She doesn’t have a husband? She doesn’t have the mental capacity to take care of herself?
right2bright on January 2, 2013 at 12:13 PM
So kathleen we can’t say anything negative against hill because she is a d? If a r under a r president had done what hill, as sos, did, YOU and ALL like YOU would be slamming the r 24/7 for being involved in the deaths of FOUR American’s and YOU know it!

“…ruined on the tines of pitchforks glimmering in the light of torch-bearing mobs…”
Anybody still have doubts about Ms. Parker’s views of “Flyover Country” and its rube inhabitants?
This piece published rather surprisingly by WaPo looks at the bigger picture of Clinton’s record:

Fallon on January 2, 2013 at 12:23 PM
It’s been months. The al qaeda terrorists she let kill our people are still on the loose and breaking up into cells to be sent on their next assignment against Americans and allies. Hillary’s boo-boo ain’t gonna be an excuse when these killers kill more Americans.
Why isn’t Parker asking why the terrorists haven’t been brought to justice?
Buddahpundit on January 2, 2013 at 12:23 PM
How pathetic and shrillish of Parker. She is defending a powerful woman in her sixties as if she were the frailest of females. Not to make light of Hillary’s condition, but this controversy dates to September. For all of Hillary’s jet-setting, she’s had ample time since September to testify.
Vera71 on January 2, 2013 at 12:26 PM
Parker’s cri de coeur against reputation-smearing pundits could very well be an indictment of herself.
She has felt no compunction about doing the same against other public figures she doesn’t like (i.e., Sarah Palin).
She was given a chance to be on TV simply because she ostensibly looked good on camera and was willing to play into the liberal zeitgeist.

If they want to talk character assassination, I think the Democrats did a pretty good job of assassinating Hillary’s character during the 2008 primaries. Or, are they going to deny now that they called her incompetent, a liar, and a racist?
sydneyjane on January 2, 2013 at 12:30 PM
Hillary said “I take full responsibility”. In politics, that’s all you have to do to take full responsibility. You don’t actually have to be held responsible for anything and suffer consequences.
The Rogue Tomato on January 2, 2013 at 12:31 PM
Yeah, I caught that, too. Sounds like KP has never quite gotten over that.

Kathleen Parker, in a MILF-y sort of way, is actually pretty easy on the eyes.
Her scribblings are not so easy on the brain though.

I wonder if any one of us could get away with what politicians do?
“Oops, I pressed the wrong button and accidentally blew up all of Washington, DC. Sorry. I take full responsibility for that. Mistakes were made. It was not optimal. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to get on with my life.”
The Rogue Tomato on January 2, 2013 at 12:36 PM
Unless you’re a Democrat like Hillary. Then you can go months saying nothing about a hideously botched State Department operation you’re responsible for, then have an accident, then say you haven’t commented because of the accident.
I know Parker isn’t stupid enough to be duped by all of this ham-fisted dodging, so she must just be lying.

and while the democrats / liberals did indeed gleefully savage hillary and she did not fight back and then came back for more… it would appear that that is her “bro before hos” lot in life.
if she had a character worth defending and perhaps some self esteem but her enabling the Rapist-in-Chief says everything that needs to be said about the state of her valuation of herself and other women vis a vis the democrat party.
the First Enabler, the Doormat of State… not much difference between the two save the magnitude of the outright crimes that get swept under the carpet of political expediency in service to sociopathic narcissists .
“We all know that female impotence expresses itself as pity. Ayn Rand thought it was altruism but it wasn’t. Someone looks at you with hang-dog eyes or bites his lip like Clinton, pretends to show empathy while ice water flows in his blood, the filthy pig. President Rape is who he is. Proud President Rape. Everyone turned from Juanita Broddrick. Everyone looked away. Every [a...] blinked. It’s pretty [f... ]brilliant to use force after the [f...], as he did with most of the others I know about, intimidate them, have them threatened, destroy their reputations, say they’re lying or stalkers or a little mentally unhinged, having delusions of grandeur as if being [f...] or mauled or harassed by him was something one dreamed of…. Always easier to blame the woman. Are you listening, Hillary? So much easier to be angry with them rather than with him. Have I got your attention, Hillary? … More than anyone you know how cold and premeditating the bastard is. When did your heart die? … I’d be sick to think I had become as corrupt as you. How many women have you helped him hurt by protecting him and knocking out the opposition?”

OK, Parker, which is it? Frail dummies that need protection, or co-equals to men (pre-Obama) that can stand examination and take responsibility in a more traditional fashion, e.g. resign.
And, as many have observed, re: your treatment of Palin, you are a first-class hypocrite.

Parker and Noonan made it a number one priority to trash Sarah Palin, based on absolutely nothing but catty backbiting. They totally ignored the governor’s accomplishments.
Why should anyone pay attention to Parker’s excuse-making for Hillary Clinton, who wouldn’t know the truth if she tripped on it? Hillary has a history of deceit.
