Source: Enough Republican congressmen willing to vote to unseat Boehner
“At least 20 House Republican members have gotten together, discussed this and want to unseat Speaker Boehner–and are willing to do what it takes to do it,” Meyer said. “That’s more than enough to get the job done, but the one problem these guys face is they need a leader to coalesce behind.”
Meyer said the conservatives have considered House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) to take the helm after Boehner is knocked out. His opposition from the right to the Senate fiscal cliff deal that Vice President Joe Biden cut with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is a sign Cantor may try for the job.

Shooting someone/anyone always makes some people feel better.
rhombus on January 2, 2013 at 12:00 PM
Look, if nobody else wants the gig, I suppose I could pull it off. Only, when I tell Reid to go f— himself, it’ll be on live TV.
CurtZHP on January 2, 2013 at 12:07 PM
Everybody will still line up to shoot you.
rhombus on January 2, 2013 at 12:08 PM
I’ll volunteer, just so long as I’m guaranteed a seat in the House directly above Pelosi’s.
As I grow older, my bladder weakens commensurately.
Kent18 on January 2, 2013 at 12:12 PM
I left a message for Neugebauer-on his FB wall-encouraging him to vote against Boehner tomorrow.
annoyinglittletwerp on January 2, 2013 at 12:12 PM
Ok, so you get rid of him, and what does Cantor, Ryan, or anybody else do differently in his place?
kkaneff79 on January 2, 2013 at 12:14 PM
What purity test? In 2008, the GOP nominated the champion of amnesty even as the base was dead set against it. In 2012, the GOP nominated the godfather of PlaceboCare even as the base was dead set against it.
Steve Eggleston on January 2, 2013 at 12:14 PM
Deck chairs.
Titanic.
PattyJ on January 2, 2013 at 12:15 PM
Cantor is worse than Boehner. Bachmann is the obvious choice for the job.
Buddahpundit on January 2, 2013 at 12:15 PM
I would have left one for Ryan, but he’ll be one of the Bo(eh)ner Boyz who delivers the gavel to Pelosi on the third ballot in any coup attempt.
Steve Eggleston on January 2, 2013 at 12:16 PM
Less whining, more actual nominating. We’re still waiting for the Great Pumpkin Conservative ghost of Reagan. If you can’t win the GOP nomination, what can you win?
rhombus on January 2, 2013 at 12:18 PM
Every time you hear someone sneer “purity test” as a means of (ineffectually) smearing conservatives, just remember what’s really being stated is:
“Jebbie/Christie 2016! Moderation! Woot-WOOT — !!!”
Kent18 on January 2, 2013 at 12:20 PM
I’m so disillusioned with the R’s that I think I need to form the “Fuk’em and feed ‘em fish heads” party.
44Magnum on January 2, 2013 at 12:23 PM
Cantor? LOL
How about Paul Ryan? calm down…./
I wanted to cry this morning when I saw that he voted for this…I guess he got a taste of national politics and decided that it wasn’t worth it. So he had nothing to lose. Besides, his states voted for this mess no?
Oh well….
ANYONE WANT TO JOIN ME IN THE MIDDLE NOW??
You really thought the republicans were better than Dems…Ryan reminded me why I’m where I am. BOTH SIDES ARE A BUNCH OF LEGITIMATE RAPISTS OF THE CONSTITUTION When are you going to stop thinking that your side of elected leaders has a higher moral ground!? I hope you guys wake up!
—————————————–
The political junkie in me can’t get over this though:
Man, did the right’s strategy blow back in its face, or what??!!.
SMH….Hate and Extremism are terrible in everyday life, and definitely not governing policies. From losing this last election to the most vulnerable president ever, to this public humiliation by the worst president ever, you will understand when I say that you are ….a bunch of morons…right? Every time some independent tried to remotely point out how ridiculous some of those calls were (i.e. walking away from the grand bargain) for the past year, we got told to go away, or that we were liberals. (Which just proved how stupid you really were)
So…
YOU F#CKING DESERVE TO BE HUMILIATED FOR BEING DUMB AS ROCKS!!
Looking back now….Instead of “a Ham sandwich could beat Obama”, the truth is
Can.I.be.in.the.middle on January 2, 2013 at 12:24 PM
Or, you know, maybe I’m simply saying that leapfrogging from one issue to the next on what disqualifies a person from leadership is kind of suicidal.
Red Cloud on January 2, 2013 at 12:25 PM
Yeah, but he told Harry Reid to go eff himself, so
there’s that….
ToddPA on January 2, 2013 at 12:28 PM
And you’re waiting for the Ghost of Rockefeller. News flash – they’re now Democrats.
Steve Eggleston on January 2, 2013 at 12:32 PM
Ah, no thanks. Just shut up and nominate a conservative. If you can’t… well then you can’t but you can always whine.
rhombus on January 2, 2013 at 12:41 PM
“Okay, sure, so maybe remorselessly diluting any/all conservative aspects of modern-day Republicanism did lose us not one, but TWO presidential elections against one of the most spectacularly unqualified candidates in U.S. history (2008) AND the single most provably fiscal failure of a candidate in U.S. history (2012), consecutively… but if we just tack even harder leftwards a THIRD time, by golly — !!!”
Kent18 on January 2, 2013 at 12:42 PM
Don’t whine, do something.
rhombus on January 2, 2013 at 12:45 PM
Pointing and laughing =/= “whining.”
You’re welcome.
Kent18 on January 2, 2013 at 12:50 PM
Send him to Hades, pronto. The land can’t afford anything less.
Schadenfreude on January 2, 2013 at 12:52 PM
Go vote on Drudge.
Schadenfreude on January 2, 2013 at 12:53 PM
Cantor is a traitor. He knew the truth about Benghazi, ahead of Nov. 6 and said nothing at all.
He is a national waesel.
Schadenfreude on January 2, 2013 at 12:54 PM
The speaker doesn’t but neither does he need a majority of his own party to give him the speakership, just a majority of the House. Pelosi, if it is in her interest, can release enough of her caucus to vote for Boehner that he won’t need the relatively small number of insurgents from his own party who will vote against him.
That is more likely to happen that an outsider getting the job.
Boehner is not going anywhere.
Mr. Arkadin on January 2, 2013 at 12:54 PM
If you remember, I was with you before when it came to having a unified GOP front. Then, Boehner, who has never been a strong leader, was more lackluster than usual and embarrassed himself with his inept and stupid handling of “Plan B”.
He beclowned himself, does not inspire confidence, and should be replaced – saying so has nothing to do with “shooting someone/anyone”.
Anti-Control on January 2, 2013 at 12:56 PM
It’s nice to see some pushback against the whining know-it-alls that have taken over the comments since the election loss. More power to ya, shape-dude.
thebrokenrattle on January 2, 2013 at 1:12 PM
Since the election loss? I’ve been listening to this “real conservative” talk since when? ’07? Heck yes, I’d vote for a conservative. But if the “real conservative” (a faceless ideal) can’t even seem to win the GOP, then forget about it and start dealing with the real world.
rhombus on January 2, 2013 at 1:24 PM
NEWT!
El_Terrible on January 2, 2013 at 1:24 PM
Here in “the real world,” tickets to the Mittens’ Inaugural are going for as low as two-for-a-penny on eBay.
Buy now. The prices can only skyrocket from there.
Kent18 on January 2, 2013 at 1:39 PM
Oh I know, but they were a minority then, now it’s the majority. Sigh.
thebrokenrattle on January 2, 2013 at 1:40 PM
Uh no, that’s not real, that’s more made up. But it sounds funny.
rhombus on January 2, 2013 at 1:51 PM
Maybe the majority here but not necessarily elsewhere. This is just frustrated people piling on and striking out.
rhombus on January 2, 2013 at 1:53 PM
Really? How much are they going for in your neck of the woods? I may want to try cornering the market.
