Obama: I won’t negotiate over the debt ceiling
In his remarks Tuesday, Obama issued a stern forewarning on the upcoming debates, and reiterated that he will not negotiate with Republicans over the debt ceiling.
“As I’ve demonstrated throughout the past several weeks, I am very open to compromise,” he said. “But we cannot simply cut our way to prosperity.”
“While I will negotiate over many things, I will not have another debate with this Congress over whether or not they should pay the bills they have already racked up,” Obama said. “We can not not pay bills that we have already incurred.”
Immediately following the remarks, Obama left the White House to return to Hawaii, where his family is still on vacation.

Yes Lord Barky. Any attempt at fiscal discipline is racist.

Those darned Republicans sure are being obstinate again. Why won’t they negotiate?

I think there’s ample justification for a military takeover and arrest of Obama, his administration and the majority of Congress.

The final betrayal happens next month when Bo(eh)ner’s Boyz sign on to an honest-to-badness tax hike.

Why should he negotiate? Republicans give him everything he wants, and he knows it.

I would not be opposed to this action.

The funny thing is that we can, and it’s what we need to do. Unleash the private sector, sitting on billions in capital and potential investments (AKA jobs).
The guy is an ideologue extremist. The same guy that said his one private sector job was “working behind enemy lines.”

Who is this fucking idiot that runs our country?
So what are we going to do oh wise one? TAX our way to prosperity? That seems like a WONDERFUL idea to me…
I’ve come to the conclusion that the American people got the feckless idiot that they deserve in the president that they voted for.
How economically ignorant do you have to be to utter such moronic statements?

Cool. I’m going to call my bank today and tell them the same damned thing. I have credit card bills I have to pay and they damned well better raise my credit limit so I can have the money to make those payments. Or did I misunderstand something here?

The President.
Paying the bills that have already been Racked Up, is not what the debt ceiling is about, it is about playing games with Timmy Geitner not paying the bills for the democrats political advantage. There is money to pay the bills, there is nothing left for discretionary spending after he does it. And one third of that National Debt belongs to the man with the nasty attitude and the big ears.
I think the House should send a bill to Harry Reid, love letters really, arn’t they, for him to tear up that says, the Treasury Secretary SHALL pay the bills. And then tell him he should pay for essential services only until the spending cuts and debt ceiling is negotiated, and the Obama Administration produces a budget based on what the American people intend to pay.

Someone remind this JA that hs $800 BILLION so-called “stimulus” wasn’t a one time expenditure but is now art of the baseline budget. Sounds like a good place to start cutting. Return us to pre-stimulus spending levels.

As a woman, I just want to say that Obama’s nastiness is unappealing to me, it is extremely unlikeable, rather adolescent, don’t you think? The other thing it reminds me of is a person having a nicotine fit.

Didn’t I just read at HA that Republicans will have a strong hand in debt negotiations this spring? *SIGH!* This is how Obama negotiates.

petefrt on January 2, 2013 at 9:12 AM
EVERYTHING he has done and supported is in line with Cloward – Piven strategy to collapse our economic system to usher in communism…this will not change. The fact that many refuse to acknowledge this fact is frustrating. I believe most of Congress now knows there is zero possibility of paying off the public debt and the easiest way out is to collapse the value of the dollar. Following the collapse…16 trillion might be worth a loaf of bread. If any of you still believe Congress, Supreme Court or the White House actually have your best interests at heart are fools. The government has become tyrannical and no longer represents the people. The founding fathers thought this day could come and provided the cure…get ready.

In the first place, double negatives are a no-no. In the second place, that was a great concluding sentence.
In the third place, where can I complain about the HotAir logo being in the way of the log-in button?

To be fair, ‘pubby auto-negotiation will make Obama’s negotiating superfluous.

GOP: “We will not raise taxes on anyone”
Obama: “I want to raise taxes on the wealthy”
GOP: “We’re rasing taxes on everyone”
GOP: “We’re going to let the government shut down if we don’t get what we want on the debt ceiling”
Obama: “I won’t negotiate on the debt ceiling”
GOP: “We’re raising the debt ceiling and relinquishing control of it to the White House, trust us this is the best we could do”
Senate GOP: “Obama is negotiating in bad faith”
Obama: “Those darned House Republicans are trying to kill your grandmother by stealing her Medicaid/Care SocSec checks”
GOP: “It’s the obstinate TEA Party’s fault that we couldn’t get a deal done”
I thought Obama had a hairy *ss until I realized it was the back of the GOP Leadership’s heads, ears deep, kissing it….

I laugh because I agree with you, and liked your phrasing (one slight difference I have with you was that “spend” instead of tax” come to my mind when I first heard his comments.)

Boehner should have added the Balanced Budget Amendment to the Senate bill last night.
The people have the right to debate whether the Federal Government can be allowed to kick the can of yearly deficits down the road at every opportunity by distracting attention with meaningless tax tweaks or manufactured last minute crises.
The people have a right to debate whether successive generations of Americans can continue to saddle the following generations with debt by spending more money than we collect in taxes, year in and year out.
And the people have the right to debate and decide the issue of a balanced budget requirement in the Constitution where they live, away from Washington and unhindered by the machinations of the same people who decide the taxes and spending, can’t and won’t balance a budget, but are more than happy issue promises, never kept, that they will, next year or in ten years.
It should be added to the debt ceiling bill. Here’s one that can be added, though I’d anticipate shenanigans with Article 5 by adding that the waivered funding be kept strictly separate from the standard budget, strictly military in spending and dispensed through the operations of the Defense Department.

I often encounter the same problem and then I have to open a new tab and type “login” to bring up the log-in page, then refresh the page I want to comment on.
That’s easier than trying to get someone to fix the problem.

You don’t have to negotiate over the debt ceiling.
Just quit spending more than you have in revenue and no debate is needed.
…
Oh, you’re not willing to keep your spending within your means? Yeah, then you’ll need more debt; and that means an approved debt ceiling increase.
But you can avoid it; just QUIT SPENDING TOO MUCH.

Well of course not, what’s the point of negotiating when your ‘opposition’ is a bunch of bumbling tin soldiers who wouldn’t take a stand if their sorry soul depended on it? He can just wait until he gets everything he wants…AGAIN.
3rd solution: go up to the address bar, erase everything after “hotair.com/” and tack on “login” so it looks like this:
