Nation running out of ammo
Reaction to threats by Senator Dianne Feinstein and others to ban certain weapons and serverely restrict ownership of guns generally has caused a run on gun stores, as is widely reported.
Less reported is the run on ammunition, leaving ammunition inventories down 93% since election day.

just a thought, to really oppose modern armed forces, IED’s are much more effective than guns

Gee, you’d think people were getting ready for a revolution or something.

Wonder how much of this ‘running out of ammo’ has to do with different fed agencies buying up guns and ammo? Could the feds be seeing to it the supply is down?

Well, yeah, that or NBC efforts.

A revolutionary anniversary is coming up just in time for the next presidential election…

Even makarov ammo is in short supply.

Have reloading presses, primers, casings, powder, and bullets gone scarce yet?

You have to wonder, don’t you. I wonder what % of total annual ammo purchasing is federal.

No more ammo, no more freedom.

It’s worth noting that it’s not so much self-defense loads that are disappearing. Can still find plenty of Hydra-shok and Hornady Crit. Defense rounds on the shelves. Expensive, but present.
What’s disappearing is target ammo, practice rounds…The stuff a guy uses to train with. Was fortunate to secure a couple hundred rounds for this weekend.
Point being, once the Supreme Court upholds the idea that a “well-regulated militia” consists of ordinary citizens capable of functioning in ad hoc fashion, the next wall will be to justify a lack of training by those citizens due to a critical (and unexplained) shortage of munitions necessary to maintain shooting skills.

The only thing I could find in .223/5.56 at a reasonable price were tracers.
So now I’ll have a couple k rds of tracers…

While you’re stocking up on ammo, better stock up on rat poison too:

Not to go all “silver lining” on this but, on the plus side, hopefully this indicates robust training activity with commensurate increase in safe & competent handling & skill.
Kenosha Kid on December 29, 2012 at 2:39 PM
With the price of food going through the roof, we might have to catch and kill the rats for food instead of using poison on them?
I don’t plan to, but if you get hungry enough?

There’s some awesome price gouging going on. Cheaper than dirt had 1k rounds of meh 5.56 for $1000, and until they were shamed they had AR mags on for $60+ a piece (normal price approx. $12).
Fearless prediction: People are buying ammo and firearms at 400% markups. Once Feingolds bill implodes and supply returns in 12-18 monts they’re going to be pissed or in denial.
CorporatePiggy on December 29, 2012 at 3:11 PM
It would almost pay to have a gun in a less popular caliber like 45 Colt so that there would be ammo available.
Full Disclosure: I have a Ruger Blackhawk Convertible in 45 Colt/45 Auto and a Rossi Circuit Judge; both can use 45 Colt ammo.
mad scientist on December 29, 2012 at 3:13 PM
Not even counting the military, Federal agencies have purchased even ammo to shoot each American 5 times.

This is the reason I was thinking of picking up another AR in .300 AAC or at least a complete upper in .300AAC. That and how quiet those are suppressed.
tom daschle concerned on December 29, 2012 at 3:27 PM
Yes, indeed. Day one of the revolution against a tyrannical government.

Cannibalism is a widespread problem in North Korea.
Just sayin’.

Quite so.
And I’m not laughing at people buying hugely inflated rifles and ammo. Aside from a few speculators, most of them understand on some level that the future doesn’t look all that bright.
