Questions for gun controllers
Does the Virginia Tech massacre affect your view of the efficacy of an assault-weapons ban? In 2007, Seung-Hui Cho perpetrated the deadliest shooting in the country’s history. He killed 32 people using two semiautomatic handguns.
Why has violent crime declined in the United States during the past 20 years even as gun ownership has ticked up? According to Gallup, nearly half of adults have a gun on their property, the highest number since 1993. Why has crime declined even as gun-control laws have been liberalized?
The assault-weapons ban passed in 1994 and was in effect for ten years. The paradigmatic school shooting took place at Columbine High School in 1999. Why didn’t the assault-weapons ban prevent it?
There have been hundreds of murders with guns this year in Chicago, where gun laws are restrictive. What new gun laws does the city need to stop the tide of mayhem?

Because it’s not about gun control, it’s about gun abolition; AR’s are simply a convenient starting point.

Why would a citizen need a barrel shroud?
I mean, let’s have some common sense here.

Michael Moore will tell you America has a gun culture but he doesn’t have the courage to point his camera at a crime culture.
As long as cities like Chicago continue to indulge the tribal gangs that run the street corners and public housing projects no amount of gun laws will matter.
In an airport TSA can stick their fingers in a childs diaper but for some reason cops cannot randomly stop and frisk known gang members for weapons.
Race pimps like Al Sharpton will scream racism at the top of his lungs.
The problem is not the guns but the culture that trains those young kids for a life of crime or prison.
The idea of killing somebody who got in your face or lives on another street does not seem at all absurd to them.
Little teenage kids committing murder.
In a way it is similar to the way child soldiers are used in Africa or other lands.
You train a kid to lack empathy or shame and to be cruel and indifferent and they will commit atrocities with no remorse.

Here’s a”Big Picture” episode on the right to keep and bear arms — circa late 1950s. It addresses some interesting points about how unnecessary gun control is if only lawmakers enforced existing laws and people engaged in responsible gun safety and handling.

Rich, Rich, you should know by now that when leftists say they want to have a “conversation” they don’t mean they actually want a discussion.
Just like when they say “compromise” or “bipartisanship” they mean they want us to lie down and comply with the edicts of our moral and intellectual superiors.

Liberals are guided almost entirely by their emotions, and you can throw as many facts at them as you want, but as long as the “guns are scary” feeling is lodged in their brains, it won’t matter.
WisCon on December 28, 2012 at 11:28 PM
Sorry, Rich. They are not interested in “questions,” they are interested only in the “control” part. It isn’t a matter of reasonable discussion with them, only force, only what they think they can get away with. And, they will “get away with” anything they can, anything we let them. So, let’s not let them. By force.
Whitewolf7070 on December 29, 2012 at 12:06 AM
“By force” at the ballot box, of course.

Wouldn’t it be gun owners rights have been liberalized?

He (that Lanza azzhole) didn’t even use the .223. He used pistols.
cptacek on December 29, 2012 at 1:40 AM
@cptacek: Not according to the medical examiner. He used the rifle exclusively except for when he took his own life.
clancy_wiggum on December 29, 2012 at 3:17 AM
Don’t worry. I’m sure there will be another spree shooting if there is resistance to the news bills being introduced.
Dr. Frank Enstine on December 29, 2012 at 6:34 AM
So that one doesn’t burn their skin while firing. All rifles have some form of barrel shroud. It’s only and matter of how long(or big) it is or what it’s made of. An old Springfield 30-06(used in WWI) had a barrel shroud, it was made of wood that went almost all the way to the end of the barrel. Yet it is a bolt action and if memory serves me only held about 5 or 6 six rounds…..is THAT an assault weapon?
The only rational being used here is how scary something looks, it only goes to show the ignorance of those spouting their talking points.
Most handguns have more velocity than a Bushmaster .223
Scotty on December 29, 2012 at 9:37 AM
NBC is saying he had 4 pistols on him and the .223 was in the car.
