Infographic: What kind of violence kills Americans?
Here’s what we can glean: The leading means of violence-related deaths are guns. For people ages 5 to 9 and 15 and above, it’s the No. 1 cause. (For children ages 10 to 14, suffocation is No. 1; for children under 4, the top cause is listed as “unspecified.”) Guns are also the second-highest cause of violent death among people ages 10 to 44. How can they be both first and second? Because, as mentioned above, Lindeman drew an important distinction between suicides and homicides. So while gun homicides are the leading cause of violent death for people ages 15 to 24, gun suicides are the second leading cause. For people ages 35 to 44, it’s reversed. And overall, there are far more suicides than homicides. The third leading cause of violent death across most age groups is suffocation (primarily by suicide).

What about violence during gestation?

Arguments!
Violent arguments lead to more deaths than any other cause.
Doesn’t matter what is used to carry out the killing… and those arguing over the price of drugs on the corner should probably be near the top of that list.

How can we ban this one, libs?

Where does this fit in with automobile deaths? Drug deaths? Alcohol Deaths? Drownings? Medical deaths and diseases? I suspect that gun deaths among younger people are more concentrated in inner cities and among minorities. I know we keep talking and writing about this because the dhimocrapts and media want us to, to eventually agree to be disarmed.
They swore, if we gave them our weapons, that the wars of the tribes would cease. But when we disarmed, they sold us and delivered bound to our foe, And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said “Stick to the Devil you know.”

Now suicide is the gun’s fault?
To reference another thread, “Whatever….”

The assault weapons/death machines that everyone is so wee weed up about now are used in a teensy fraction of those gun deaths.

Do what blue states have done. Read this CDC report and in particular check this figure:
Seems like blue states have figured out how to keep their children safe. There you will find recommendations on how to prevent deaths (and save significant medical/other costs of death and injury).
These suggestions range from seat-belts to smoke alarms. The implementation of which depends on evil marxist communist satanic bla blah blergh regulations.

Notice that they left out “car crashes”? That’s because it’s always been the most common form of violent death.

um the going into 99 percent obama voter precints is the most violent place. Obama’s voters are super violent.

People use cars more than guns to commit acts of violence? I’m guessing you live in Mad Max universe?
lester on December 28, 2012 at 6:52 PM
Are you attempting to suggesting that being ripped in half and crushed to death isn’t a violent way to die? Or perhaps you are suggesting that no one should ever be charged with vehicular manslaughter?
SWalker on December 28, 2012 at 6:56 PM
Guns are at the top because they are the most efficient and reliable means of causing death. But that doesn’t mean those people would be alive in the absence of guns. It only means that one method has been removed, which has nothing to do with the underlying motive(s) for the killing itself. You could just as well assume – incorrectly – that all those people would still be dead by other means.

“Death by violence” doesn’t imply a deliberate killer. Car crashes have long been the most common form of violent death in this country.
Steven Den Beste on December 28, 2012 at 7:07 PM
Why do they include suicides as “violence related deaths”? That seems pretty stupid and disingenuous. If someone is committing suicide does it really matter how they die? WTFF?

“There is only one rule about violence. Do whatever you must to make it stop.”
My way to stop violence happens to be as a well armed, capable citizen.

Typical liberal, redefining words to push his agenda.

Just amend the constitution to ban all guns, Colin, problem solved.

By the graphic it infers that 60,000 people between 20-34 died of gunshot homicide. I call bullshit.

Weird. It’s almost like you don’t understand what you read and just post based on bizarre blue-state religious beliefs. From your link:
And then, with a teensy depth of understanding:
The Sierra Club- Annual gasoline consumption per capita
Or not, frankly, since your link even says as much here:
Granted they don’t tie it to fuel use, but some independent thought/capability is likely assumed.
Do I need to point out where your math is causing the problem (other than it being math, of course)?

BTW, this was great:
I know you weren’t intentionally trying to suggest government-driven elements like parking restrictions, tolls, etc. were saving childrens lives because car usage had been actively discouraged by blue states, but that was what made it so funny.
Well done.
