“Abercrombie got even with Inouye and declared his independence in a dramatic fashion”
Abercrombie and Inouye were not allies. In fact, their two-decade relationship in Congress was marked by rifts — most notably over Inouye’s encouragement of a primary challenger to Abercrombie in the 2010 governor’s race. Abercrombie and Schatz were running mates in that same election…
In 2010, Inouye encouraged Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann to run in the gubernatorial primary against Abercrombie, although the senator never made an explicit endorsement. The longtime senator was also critical of Abercrombie’s decision to leave Congress early to run for governor, noting that he was leaving Democrats a vote short on major votes.
Inouye and his aides made clear shortly before his death last week that his final wish was to ensure Hanabusa succeeds him in the Senate. Hanabusa; Schatz (pronounced “shots”); and Esther Kia’aina, deputy director of the state Department of Land and Natural Resources, were the finalists for the position.

So Abercrombie is a sexist, picking a man over a woman.

How could Hawaii elect the most annoying man in the universe governor?

Maybe thats only me, but I dont find getting even with somebody after his death all that impressive.

Abercrombie is a dork. But this is politics – not a dynasty. Inouye doesn’t get to name a successor.

Didn’t Fitch get a say in this appointment, why only Abercrombie?
JFKY on December 28, 2012 at 2:54 PM
A Democrat who is vindictive and feuds for king of the hill with the ghosts of others of his own party? No way.
That said, agreed with Blake above that Inouye doesn’t have the right to name his successor for when he inevitably dies in his seat – which was his clear intention by the way, he already gave indication that he’d run in 2016 at the age of 92. This was Abercrombie’s prerogative, whether or not he chose out of desire to be a d-bag to a dead man.

You saved me some typing, lol.

Wow… Let’s vindictively screw over a 88 year old war hero on his death bed. And then brag about it. Impressive.

It was payback but Obama influenced it all.

Abercrombie is ill, in the head.

They didn’t get along because Abercrombie is a communist/socialist/progressive and Inouye was an American war hero.

…who voted for Obamacare. They butted heads over the role of big dog in HI politics, and Inouye’s service in WWII cannot be ignored, but let’s not pretend that they were fundamentally different in their political ideals…

obama’s fingerprints all over this to bad the msm will not report it

Exactly. In his later years, Inouye turned into a Leftist Dingbat; he even joined with members of the BCC to try and convince at-the-time Vice President Algore to refuse to certify the 2000 Electoral College results, because he, along with them, believed Chimp Bush had Stolen that election.

Kind of like urinating on someone’s grave. Cowardice personified.
