counterfactual historiography is a fun but ultimately useless exercise. the question of the grand bargain's passing through congress is completely moot, thanks to mssrs. boehner and cantor.

to tell you the truth, the sight of a democratic president finally spanking around the gop is very satisfying. so forgive me if i'm outraged by the size and lack of specificity of the spending cuts offered. (as i said, you need to get acquainted with the concept of bargaining.) i say let the gop eat a nice big shit sandwich first, that's what we need before we start fixing things.

of course, you’re completely wrong. the spending cuts were a starting offer that boehner never countered with anything serious or specific. the votes would have been there for obama’s ‘grand bargain’ offer, had boehner and cantor not walked away from it.

Your inside knowledge of Washington and the future notwithstanding, Obama's offered spending increases. Let's start with the hilarity of that.

You always will spin it that way – but zero spending cuts (inceases in on of Obama’s brilliant plans) after Obama’s crack-addled spending spree is unconscionable.

How many times did Obama say he wanted a “balanced approach”? Yeah, he was lying.

he made a concrete offer to keep rates the same on income under $250 grand, dodo. the only reason the gop rejected it is because their concern is, as usual, with the rich.
