“The president has never gotten over his obsession with taxing people who make $250,000″
Here in New York, we all know that families with a combined income of $250,000 are really middle class; they certainly don’t live like the president’s favorite billionaire, limousine liberal Warren Buffett, and when they get done paying for the area’s higher cost of living, not to mention school tuition, etc., they’re barely saving enough for retirement…
Bottom line: The president has never gotten over his obsession with taxing people who make $250,000, except for a brief period in 2010, when the Republicans won the House and picked up seats in the Senate.
His 50.96 percent popular-vote victory over Mitt Romney in the recent presidential election (albeit much more pronounced in the Electoral College) has emboldened him to back his original thesis on tax fairness. Sure, he offered his Republican counterpart, namely House Speaker John Boehner, a “deal” to start tax increases at $400,000, but it was an unserious offer; he offered not a single specified spending cut, aside from some cost-of-living adjustments in Social Security, and certainly not enough for Boehner to sell to his skeptical colleagues who wouldn’t even consider starting the tax hikes at $1 million in income without some real spending reductions.

Obama hates the middle class.

Obama doesn’t care about funding the government, he only cares about leveling all Americans economically. He is especially interested in punishing whitey. He won’t be happy until we’re all poor and dependent on his bureaucracy for everything.

Fair-tax in ’16!

Obama’s agenda is destroy the country. He is totally sociopathic.
If we survive his second term with a modicum of liberty, I will be surprised.

my heart goes out to my fellow new yorkers, all of whom certifiably voted for obama, twice, and are surely happy to pay the premium for the luxury of living in the greatest city in the world.
alas, gasparino doesn’t understand income tax rates. the first $250,000 will be taxed at the same rate, and income beyond that will be taxed at a marginally higher rate. that spot at claremont prep is safe.

Own it Obama voters. I have no sympathy for you whatsoever.
You keep voting socialists in to office, they’re going to keep taking your $hit.

as theatrical as you’d expect from the despicable ‘this man is about to die’ ny post.
letting all of the tax cuts expire is clearly not ‘obamanomics,’ especially since the administration’s stated position is to keep current rates for incomes under $250,000.
sesquipedalian on December 27, 2012 at 6:33 PM
his tax rates will stay the same as well.

I have to chuckle at the folks that talk of switching to a fair tax, or a flat tax, or other tax “reform” schemes.
Like Dana Carvey/George HW Bush used to say, “Not gonna’, not gonna’, not gonna’ happen.” Ever…
Never… Dimrats are simple folk. They want full control over your pocketbook. Fair/flat schemes are far too simple, and ultimately might result in the DC geniuses getting less of your money. No way. They want unbridled access to your ill-gotten earnings. They’re like Crack Wh0res (no offense to decent, hard-working Crack Wh0res). They need more more more of your money to feed their spending habit.
When pigs fly, we’ll have a flat/fair/reformed tax system.
FlatlanderByTheLake on December 27, 2012 at 6:59 PM
Obama can “state” whatever he wants. He’s “stated” many things over the past 4 years (and beyond) that are questionable. He’s “stated” that he wants a single-payer health care system, for example.
It doesn’t matter what a politician says, it only matters what they do. If we go over the cliff, it’s because Obama made the choice not to compromise. He’s the President.
visions on December 27, 2012 at 7:01 PM
he made a concrete offer to keep rates the same on income under $250 grand, dodo. the only reason the gop rejected it is because their concern is, as usual, with the rich.
sesquipedalian on December 27, 2012 at 7:05 PM
Obama can go suck eggs. In some places, such as parts of California, 250k isn’t even a “living wage” anymore.
Now, in Florida, 250k…not a bad income, but you aren’t exactly living on different your different yachts.
I’m all for Fair Tax. Or even a graduated tax. But with no deductions or tax credits. No Income Earned Credit, etc.
Just “how much did you make? OK, 10% of the first $XYZ and 12% of the next $PQU”
Dump the social engineering that tax deductions and credits represent.
Oh, I do think it would be nice that whenever someone says “I should be taxed more” that they should be hit with an immediate 10% of assets tax. Let’s oblige them.
ProfShadow on December 27, 2012 at 7:07 PM
With no serious spending cuts. He’s playing games.

If anyone is concerned about the rich, it is without a doubt your side, lol.
xblade on December 27, 2012 at 7:22 PM
By the way, I thought Bush only cut taxes for rich people? Yet now we have to keep the Bush tax cuts in place for everyone but rich people. Do liberals ever tell the truth about anything?
xblade on December 27, 2012 at 7:25 PM
liberals talk about a less progressive tax code, tax rates on income from investment and estate taxes, mainly.

I’m in. You got a plan for getting enough GOP votes in the Senate to pass an amendment to replace the 16th – a plan that does not involve Ron Paul?
Odysseus on December 27, 2012 at 8:06 PM
I think back to the days when I was running a traditional bricks and mortar business with revenues in the high-six, low-seven figure range. This kind of a tax nut would have killed us within a year. Wiped out 8 to 10 jobs. Ultimately a revenue drop to the city, state and federal government. Loss of revenue to all of our suppliers. Loss of donations and support to local charities.
This is so stupid it’s beyond belief.
I’m so glad I don’t have to deal with the heartbreak.
trigon on December 27, 2012 at 8:10 PM
Somebody needs to start asking why those earning $250K or more should pay more, and demand an answer that doesn’t use the word “fair.”
What’s fair is everyone paying something, not the rich getting soaked while 47% get a free ride.
CurtZHP on December 27, 2012 at 8:13 PM
Has anyone ever wondered why 200K single and 250K married is the “millionairs” that BamBam is talking about? They been using that to classify that bracket as that.
watertown on December 27, 2012 at 8:21 PM
You always will spin it that way – but zero spending cuts (inceases in on of Obama’s brilliant plans) after Obama’s crack-addled spending spree is unconscionable.
How many times did Obama say he wanted a “balanced approach”? Yeah, he was lying.
Chuck Schick on December 27, 2012 at 8:24 PM
he offered $425 million in spending cuts. he had also offered significant spending cuts many times before, including his ‘grand bargain’ offer that the gop so foolishly walked away from.
sesquipedalian on December 27, 2012 at 8:49 PM
$425B over 10 years is a sick joke, other offers included spending increases, and the $4 trillion “grand bargain” was a figment of Obama’s imagination that had no Democrat support.
Next.
Chuck Schick on December 27, 2012 at 9:02 PM
i like this – tight, snappy, on the point. you’re a good study, chuck.
of course, you’re completely wrong. the spending cuts were a starting offer that boehner never countered with anything serious or specific. the votes would have been there for obama’s ‘grand bargain’ offer, had boehner and cantor not walked away from it.
sesquipedalian on December 27, 2012 at 9:24 PM
Your inside knowledge of Washington and the future notwithstanding, Obama’s offered spending increases. Let’s start with the hilarity of that.
Chuck Schick on December 27, 2012 at 9:36 PM
Oh, and let’s not forget the fact Obama still tries to claim “war savings” as spending cuts – just as he did last summer. Always brings a smile to my face.
Chuck Schick on December 27, 2012 at 10:00 PM
counterfactual historiography is a fun but ultimately useless exercise. the question of the grand bargain’s passing through congress is completely moot, thanks to mssrs. boehner and cantor.
to tell you the truth, the sight of a democratic president finally spanking around the gop is very satisfying. so forgive me if i’m outraged by the size and lack of specificity of the spending cuts offered. (as i said, you need to get acquainted with the concept of bargaining.) i say let the gop eat a nice big shit sandwich first, that’s what we need before we start fixing things.
