Is Starbucks a cult?
Isn’t there something creepy about Starbucks’ CEO Howard Schultz having [in Politico's words] “asked his Washington-area employees to write ‘Come Together’ on each customer cup today, tomorrow and Friday, as a gesture to urge leaders to resolve the fiscal cliff”? Did Schultz take a poll of his employees–sorry, “partners,” he calls them–before ordering pressuring asking them to join in this lobbying effort? What if he were, say, the CEO of Chick-fil-A and he “asked” his “partners” to write “Preserve the Family” on the outside of cups and containers?

No… apple is.

In the same way Apple is. It’s less a cult and more a status symbol to show that you are one of the “elite.”

I just wish I could turn on my tap and hot fresh coffee would pour out.

Well, if it is, it’s the second gayest cult ever, right after the cult of obama.

Starbucks/Chick-fil-A, Public/Private, Apples/Oranges

Wow, Dirk Benedict sure does attract a lot of cults.
I’ve been reading about “Facism” on internet message boards for years, which is apparently a devotion to Benedict’s character on “the A-Team”. And now, there’s apparently a cult based on his character in “Battlestar Galactica”.

Of course not. No more than my Sunshine Carpet Cleaners. Most of the world is carpeted, and one day, we will do the cleaning.

FYI – If you just drink regular joe, the coffee at Mcdonalds is better…and cheaper.
(not sure how the comparison is if you go for the latte’s and such)

THIS.

Also, I’m kind of creeped out by the “rise above” campaign on CNBC.
Deafdog on December 27, 2012 at 5:46 PM
I don’t know which is creepier….The idea of a $7 cup of coffee or the fact that there are people that would buy it….

Who cares? Their coffee sucks royally. Some of the worst coffee around. And their people (and Shultz) have always been annoying twerps.
ThePrimordialOrderedPair on December 27, 2012 at 5:51 PM
No. They are just a business that sells an over priced product to people too willing to hand over hard earned money because they are too lazy to make it themselves for a fraction of the cost.

I do like my home-ground and brewed coffee best but I partake of Starbucks once in a while, for social reasons (but I usually get tea there). I also own Apple products.
I just figured out I am probably the world’s worst cult member. I guess, my heart just isn’t into it.

Come together. Right now.
Over me.
BobMbx on December 27, 2012 at 6:01 PM
I also use “but” too often.
Fallon on December 27, 2012 at 6:01 PM
It’s a rip off…however, if enough fools want to pay for it, freely, good on the Looter who rips them off.
Schadenfreude on December 27, 2012 at 6:05 PM
There must be some explanation.
It’s not great coffee.

You have to follow the link to the douche-site at Starbucks — the comments are hilarious. It starts off with a series of non-lefty attacks on Schultz, filled with sarcasm and good humor.
But then the Starbucks Family members from occupy-whatever start mauling Schultz from the left, of all things. They somehow associate him with conservatives who are calling for fiscal sanity. But Schultz is just a nitwit yelling “tax me, I’m rich”.
Why would Starbucks be so stupid to allow comments on their CEO’s blog?

Sometime ago they did a purge with their employees here. Not nearly so obvious now. They do have the cheapest coffee if all you have is coffee and not something in code words. Good employees.
BullShooterAsInElk on December 27, 2012 at 6:47 PM
Starbucks is just overpriced bad coffee with fancy names.
Their coffee is just a flavoring for all those fru-fru drinks..
But on the other hand, the scones are good…
ProfShadow on December 27, 2012 at 7:01 PM
Yeah, great place for a cup o’ joe in a less-than-transparent glass.
Tzetzes on December 27, 2012 at 7:18 PM
Bad, highly overpriced coffee. They burn their beans, and it’s just not worth it. Pete’s and Stumptown blow them away. Heck, buy Trader Joe’s and brew your own. World Market sells gourmet roasts for $10 for a pound and a half.
