Liberals panic as they lose the gun narrative
Their post-Newtown strategy was always to prevent an effective response from the pro-gun freedom side by both rapid action and by demonization. But the holidays and the kabuki theater that is the fiscal cliff drama meant that legislative action, their Holy Grail, would have to wait. That gave people time to think and the gun freedom side the time to react.
Demonizing those who support gun freedom was always intended as a weapon to silence them. It was also critical that we, law-abiding gun owners, become the Other. By dehumanizing us and painting us as evil, it is that much easier to strip us of our rights.
But gun freedom advocates fought back. Using the mainstream media, conservative media and especially social media – we need to understand its huge significance here – gun freedom advocates countered liberals’ bogus “facts.” Media reports about “automatic” weapons were corrected, clownish statements about “high caliber magazines” and “large capacity round” were mocked. The struggle raged over millions of Facebook posts. The average citizen saw gun banners ask “When will America control access to weapons?” and then saw several experts among his or her friends post about the significant hurdles one needs to get over to get a gun. Truth bypassed the mainstream media and became a weapon for the side of fundamental rights.
The banners overplayed their hand, losing credibility with every distortion, evasion and smear.

Successfully demonizing me would require that I give a sh-t what you think of me.
And I don’t.
CurtZHP on December 26, 2012 at 6:54 PM
If this is true (and I’m not sure it is) why can’t we do it anything with any other issue?
ChrisL on December 26, 2012 at 6:59 PM
Why?
cozmo on December 26, 2012 at 7:02 PM
Feel the same way,, don’t give a crap what they say. But, they don’t give a crap what we say either. Or the rule of law. Or the Constitution. Or using deaths to get thier way.
wolly4321 on December 26, 2012 at 7:04 PM
Also helped to see Morgan show his ass and David Gregory become guilty of the silly law he was promoting. Plus all the hypocrisy of the gun control advocates.

Only if I can get it from a private party.
I’m boycotting sales tax wherever possible next year.

Two reasons.
First, because we can.
Second, because it scares the crap out of our enemies. (that would be leftists)

..about the biggest surprise of this little soiree was the exposure of Bill O’Reilly — by virtue of his screechy, estrogen-soaked, misinformed rant on guns — as an ignorant, bloviating fool.
Keeeee-rist and little kittens! If the guy gets CONTEMPORARY FACTS so blatantly wrong, why would any of you out there plunk down near $30 to purchase his historical efforts?
The man is a terminally self-referential fool and an ignoramus.
The War Planner on December 26, 2012 at 7:09 PM
..you can avoid sales tax by buying a semi-automatic “high-powered” battle rifle and ammunition directly from the U. S. government. Cheaper than the ones you would buy at gun shows and, in most cases, you skip the state registration fees. They will ship the firearm DIRECTLY TO YOUR DOOR.
The War Planner on December 26, 2012 at 7:13 PM
They are currently overpriced, selection is down and the gun safe is full. Now is the time to streamline the inventory.

BOR is nothing more than a populist. The Left just calls him a conservative because he tends to disagree with them.

It’s extremely sad that such a tragic event had to cause this but can I just say that I’m having a hell of a good time watching John Lott come on all of these liberal news programs and totally annihilating every argument the liberal commentators throw at him. Nothing brings more satisfaction than watching Soledad O’Brien cry to try to win an argument.

LOL. They’re overwhelmed with orders of all products, especially bayonets.

According to great American Patriot nonpartisan, locking doors is preferable to having firearms available for defense.

We did it! We went around the MSM, stated our case aggressively, clearly and intelligently and DIDN’T BACK DOWN. What we did here we need to do with every other issues! This should be the template.

Couldn’t the woman have simply held up a sign which said “GUN FREE ZONE” and not shot the guy? Violence is never ever warranted in these situations.

This “war” isn’t over. Libs are no longer trying to move legislation. Now, they’re going to campaign on it and will try to capture a couple of high profile scalps, using what could be substantial millions from Bloomberg.

Watched with disgust. Note how Lott makes salient, coherent points to her questions and O’Bdipshit shakes her head, rolls her eyes and changes the subject when her views are questioned.
On almost any interview/talking head show notice that the libs are the first to get unhinged and if they don’t get loud or curse like Beckel, they get derisive and smug.

The beans, of course, are utterly ineffective. Disarming law abiding citizens does not reduce violent crime. Go figure.
Every time they throw down a new ban, their constituency gains no benefit, beyond some delusional fantasy of safety which cannot survive contact with the real world and is soon forgotten.
Meanwhile non-constituents, the Bitter Clingers, do in fact experience tangible negative impacts. Which do not fade. The suppression of freedom is not forgotten. We remember 1934, 1968, 1994, and numerous other abridgments of the 2nd and insults to free men.
So the left side of the firearms politics equation barely changes, while the right side accumulates anger, outrage, and resistance.
You could call it unintended consequences, but you have to be blind not to see it.
Kenosha Kid on December 26, 2012 at 9:11 PM
beans? bans.
Kenosha Kid on December 26, 2012 at 9:11 PM
Yep. Though I think LaPierre’s security proposal should not be federal, but a state and local initiative, I credit him with shifting our narrative from defense to offense.
Actually, I think it likely he agrees, and that the federal idea was mainly a way of seizing the offense.
I recently renewed my NRA membership for two more years.
petefrt on December 26, 2012 at 9:19 PM
Make mine beans.
petefrt on December 26, 2012 at 9:21 PM
That is because the NRA, no matter what anyone thinks of them, stands strong and yet comes up with ingenious political arguments. The moving the debate to armed security to schools was pure gold, no matter what hard core fiscal conservatives (mostly males) say. The NRA understood mothers and their instinct to protect their children. The NRA also realized this would cause a firestorm in the media, and they were happy with that. How do you get your message out into the mainstream media if you are conservative? You do or say something that will outrage their progressive sensitivities then you will get front page coverage. “Bad” attention is better than no attention.
The reason why we suck at other issues is because the GOP does not stand strong and they never use any ingenious political arguments. They are so sacred of the media that they don’t do anything that might offend the MSM, and thus…no attention…and the public never finds out what your plan is.
William Eaton on December 26, 2012 at 9:27 PM
+100. Bingo. Bulls eye.
petefrt on December 26, 2012 at 9:33 PM
Right, going on the offense instead of accepting the media’s definition of the topic. Controlling the narrative instead of being defined by someone else’s talking points. Very Breitbart.
29Victor on December 26, 2012 at 9:45 PM
Yes, and then having gained the offensive and captured the high ground, he can bargain, bargain it back as a states’ rights issue. Not a federal program, but one for state and local governments to control.
His response to Newtown is a *cough* teachable moment for us on the right.
