Howard Kurtz
Leave David Gregory alone!
Was it a stunt? Yep, and an eye-catching one. Was Gregory being aggressive with the NRA chief, or seeming to push gun control in a confrontational interview? All that is up for debate.
But a police probe over what I assume was an empty ammo clip is a total waste of time. What it demonstrates above all is that journalists are getting ensnared in the political war over gun control.
Even more absurd than a criminal inquiry into David Gregory is an effort by pro-gun enthusiasts to kick Piers Morgan out of the country. His crime? Carrying on a passionate crusade for gun control.

Laws are for YOU little people.

So, Howard, it’s OK to break the law? Bet if I was on your front lawn with a weapon you wouldn’t think so.*
*not a threat, merely a comparison.
john1schn on December 26, 2012 at 1:03 PM
Passive sentence jackassery. They’re ensnaring themselves.

The man is a wild eyed, abortion loving, criminal clutching his book Mein Kampf!

I belkieve the law forbids possession of the hi cap mag whether it is loaded or not. Hey Howard if it’s absurd that says alot about the law in the first place.

Gotta little something on your chin there, Howie…
catmman on December 26, 2012 at 1:04 PM
He should be left alone – in a jail cell.
Bury the little commie and throw away the key.
platypus on December 26, 2012 at 1:04 PM
Just make sure they cavity search him. Who knows what he is hiding up there?
Blake on December 26, 2012 at 1:05 PM
They willingly ensnare themselves.
As for ol’ Dave, let him be subject to the laws he advocates for the rest of us, enough of this two-party society where so-called elites are not held accountable.
Bishop on December 26, 2012 at 1:05 PM
Sounds like you’re volunteering.
platypus on December 26, 2012 at 1:05 PM
OK, if you want to leave gregory alone for his ‘stunt’ then leave the kids, who draw a picture of a gun at school or point their finger that might look like a gun, alone! The school hauls the kids off, sometimes, in handcuffs by the law!
Zero tolerance for me but not for thee?

And it wasn’t a “clip”, how many times do you gun nomenclature-bereft halfwits need to be told that?
Bishop on December 26, 2012 at 1:06 PM
Honestly, it’s D.C. None of you really think that the police are going to do their job in that swamp, do you?
john1schn on December 26, 2012 at 1:07 PM
He broke the law, dipsh!t. And he broke a law that he is stupidly supporting and wanting to see enacted everywhere – even though it’s un-Constitutional. Further, NBC and Gregory asked MPD if they could use the magazine and the police said “No,” so it’s not as if the idiots can plead ignorance about this particular, not that ignorance of the law is a defense, anyway.
All of you in the MSM make me sick. You are the lowest of the low.
Gregory needs to spend a year in jail, since he is a loud supporter of enforcing this insane law on others. He needs to have the book thrown at him over it.
ThePrimordialOrderedPair on December 26, 2012 at 1:07 PM
No, what it demonstrates is that journ0lists are basically “do as I say, not as I do” hypocrites and it’s about time they get a dose of the same sh*t they’ve been throwing at everyone else. Deport Piers!

Yep. Aren’t laws enacted for a purpose?

davidk on December 26, 2012 at 1:11 PM
Prison would be a good lesson for him. In fact, if I was the police, I would find the path through which that magazine got into his hands. It is possible several people can be put behind bars.

Gregory is being hoisted by his own petard.
He should have known better than to play with explosives…

From Gabe over at AOSHQ this morning
If journalists didn’t want to be “ensnared” in the gun grabber debate, they could just shut their pie holes and report the news. Instead, they’re sweating over guns in video games on the front page of the NYTimes. They’re busy clucking about “gun show loopholes” that haven’t existed since the mid-1990s on the radio. They’re actually publishing the names and addresses of lawful gun owners.
The gun grabbers — including so many journalists — are doing what they usually do when the topic comes up. They are, in every medium available, calling a hundred million Americans complete lunatics. Next they’re going to act all surprised when a hundred million people are pissed off about their unprofessional behavior.
Do you know what it’s really about when someone starts calling something a “distraction” or, as Kurtz calls it, “a sideshow”? It’s a concession that they have utterly lost the argument. The gun grabbers made monkeys of themselves. Now they’d like everyone else to just shut up about the whole thing.
You see, Howard Kurtz and other Celebrated Journalists are having a Very Important Discussion about gun control and they don’t have time for any of your retrograde carrying on about your rights.
Rixon on December 26, 2012 at 1:17 PM
This, thread winner.
BigGator5 on December 26, 2012 at 1:19 PM
In this case he was not a journalist, but a commentator. Journalists report the news, commentators give opinions.
DAT60A3 on December 26, 2012 at 1:20 PM
Howie, you are forgetting that your job as a journalist is not to protect other journalists, but to protect the public’s sacred right to know what Obama wants them to know. Try to stay focused.
drunyan8315 on December 26, 2012 at 1:28 PM
So elitist libturds like Gregory who not only break the law they advocate pushing on everyone else but do so flauntingly after being told by law enforcement that he’s breaking law by even possessing that object should be left alone? Excuse me, NO ONE is above the law, although that’s the example our elitist Scofflaw-in-Chief has been setting for the past 4 years, so why shouldn’t his butt-kissing scumpliant slimestream media pals be exempt from the law as well? The hypocrisy is truly stifling!
stukinIL4now on December 26, 2012 at 1:29 PM
Where is that evil magazine now? Is it still in Gregory’s possession? Did he dispose of it? Did he sell it? Do all of you realize that there may be a horrible scary death dealing killing machine loose on the streets of D.C. Who has that thing now? Did Gregory break the law by disposing of it. After all it could be evidence in a criminal investigation. Gregory should be put under 24 hour psychic evaluation since the mere possession of such a terrible thing may cause him to go on a rampage.
Oldnuke on December 26, 2012 at 1:29 PM
No. What it demonstrates is that empty mags are no threat to anyone, even though possessing them in DC is a felony.
What you are demonstrating now is your inexplicable belief that journalists shouldn’t have to follow the laws if breaking them allows them to make a point with which you agree.
FOAD.
Washington Nearsider on December 26, 2012 at 1:31 PM
Mark Steyn called Gregory “a bitter clinger.” hah.
Gregory and Kurtz are hypocrites. Enforce the law DC police. Don’t go wobbly.
conservative pilgrim on December 26, 2012 at 1:35 PM
How long a prison sentence is involved in possessing that magazine? Several years? Who bought it for him? Did someone ORDER securing the magazine? At least three prison sentences are potentially in the offing.
Good riddance to bad rubbish.
It’s about time that these journalists learn that there are harsh gun laws, and they are now well-meaning outlaws.
theCork on December 26, 2012 at 1:38 PM
And where is the magazine now? Destroying evidence is a felony, I believe.
Rixon on December 26, 2012 at 1:50 PM
Did he or did not break the law.
If he did – he must suffer the consequences period.

Therein lays the solution: Ban the ak15 and their clips.
davidk on December 26, 2012 at 2:12 PM
Ensnared. Yeah….its not Gregory’s fault the magazine is illegal.
BobMbx on December 26, 2012 at 3:08 PM
There are two possible reasons to claim he shouldn’t be prosecuted.
1) It’s acceptable to break the law for a “good” reason… like to make a point in an argument.
But defending your home, family and property aren’t a good reason like winning a debate?
Ok… that failed.
2) The Rule of Law should NEVER be applied equally, and Journalists should be allowed to violate the law on a whim without any repercussions because they’re better than us and we need a caste system with different rights for different people.
What? That’s pretty much the only argument he’s making.
Would he want ANYONE with an unloaded illegal magazine should be allowed off, only loaded ones should be illegal? No… so he’s claiming THIS person should be above the law, but not most people.
Not seeing it.
gekkobear on December 26, 2012 at 3:36 PM
They keep trying to break out, but they just keep getting…dragged…back…in!
Tyrone Slothrop on December 26, 2012 at 3:49 PM
How funny would it be if Gregory had to appeal his conviction on the grounds that the law that he wanted to be implemented was unconstitutional?
blammm on December 26, 2012 at 3:51 PM
You know how our side is always saying, “Why, if a Republican/conservative did that…?” Well, if it had been a Republican/conservative in this case, true enough, he’d be in deep trouble – but we’d all be saying he shouldn’t be. Just, er, saying.
