Jim Moran pushing gun-control measures favored by NRA members
Moran’s legislation is based on the results of a July survey conducted by GOP pollster Frank Luntz, who asked NRA members and other gun-owners about different gun-reform proposals.
Luntz found that:
• 74 percent of NRA members support criminal background checks on all potential gun buyers — as opposed to current law, which requires background checks only on those who buy from licensed gun dealers;
• 79 percent of NRA members back requiring gun retailers to perform background checks on all employees;
• 71 percent of NRA members would bar those on the FBI’s terrorist watch-list from buying and owning guns;
• 64 percent of NRA members support requiring gun owners to report lost or stolen firearms.

There’s the magic part, “based on”. The final monstrosities are always radically different and this will be no different.

Background checks for what exactly? What would disqualify someone from buying or selling a gun?
forest on December 26, 2012 at 1:54 PM
This isn’t about the NRA or it’s members … or what it’s members want. They don’t dictate gun policy in the USA – the CONSTITUTION DOES … more specifically – THE BILL OF RIGHTS.
If they want to change it – they can. They can have fun with that.
HondaV65 on December 26, 2012 at 1:55 PM
I expect the government will be flooded with reports of freak boating accidents.
agmartin on December 26, 2012 at 1:57 PM
You would be surprised. Depending on how fascist they wanted to enforce it – almost anything could be used to keep you from buying a gun. Certainly – a conviction for domestic violence would do it. Beyond that – eventually it could end up with parking tickets.
HondaV65 on December 26, 2012 at 1:57 PM
I favor this too – in fact, the moment it’s passed I will report ALL of my guns as being “lost”. That way the government can forget about them.
HondaV65 on December 26, 2012 at 1:59 PM
Shocking how many NRA members are fascists that want to take away our guns!
Pablo Honey on December 26, 2012 at 2:02 PM
Bottom line.
davidk on December 26, 2012 at 2:05 PM
I can’t find mine anywhere. Don’t know if they’re lost or stolen
davidk on December 26, 2012 at 2:06 PM
Here are some background checks on the NY newspaper that published the names and addresses of concealed weapons permit holders.
Akzed on December 26, 2012 at 2:10 PM
Dang, davidk, same thing here.
Seems like Santa must have spirited them away or something.
Except the ones I donated to some organization…didn’t keep a receipt or anything, so I can’t quite remember which group it was…maybe it was Code Pink or something similar…

Shouldn’t he be out slapping the proles back into line?
Or taking money for a “tux rental”?
LincolntheHun on December 26, 2012 at 2:11 PM
As a member of the NRA, I’m against anything beyond the Second Amendment.
ProfShadow on December 26, 2012 at 2:12 PM
My guns ran away on their own.
Don’t laugh, the libs are basically saying that guns are sentient and capable of killing without human operation, so their running away isn’t exactly a stretch.
I’ll bet they’re up in the mountains living off the land, maybe attacking and killing a wayward hiker from time to time.
Bishop on December 26, 2012 at 2:12 PM
The progs have been really excited about this survey. It’s another tool for them to use to try to drive wedge into our group. Don’t let them do it.
Jim Moran thinks it’s fine that his son beats women. That’s the quality of the people who run this country.
juliesa on December 26, 2012 at 2:16 PM
I’d be for background checks if it meant violent nuts like Jim Moran and his son couldn’t own firearms.

Ascared of boomsticks.
CurtZHP on December 26, 2012 at 2:20 PM
You can find out who’s on the list, but you can’t find out why. The government won’t release that info because it compromises their intelligence gathering and evaluation procedures. The courts won’t allow the government to deny a citizen their constitutional rights based on undisclosed info and reasoning.
Socratease on December 26, 2012 at 2:35 PM
A rabid pack of raccoon took mine the other night. Honest they did.
Dr. Frank Enstine on December 26, 2012 at 2:51 PM
Just wait until Barry labels the NRA a “terrorist organization” and begins to jail NRA members for owning guns
blammm on December 26, 2012 at 2:55 PM
Pretty close to that here in MA. My instructor said that anyone with outstanding tickets or more that three in the last five years would most likely be denied a permit.
Dr. Frank Enstine on December 26, 2012 at 3:01 PM
There’s something to that, in a literal sense (not a Joe Biden literal sense, but literally). Anti-gun nuts act like guns go off by themselves just lying on a coffee table. Their cowardice vis guns seems to be a large part of the antipathy to the Second Amendment.
ConservativeLA on December 26, 2012 at 3:04 PM
That is why I am not a member. Neither do I subscript to any magazines or newspapers. I had a buddy who worked with the NSA and he told me certain magazine subscriptions will get you on one of their watch lists. I’d bet posting here also gets us on their lists.
Dr. Frank Enstine on December 26, 2012 at 3:10 PM
So why do you?
lostmotherland on December 26, 2012 at 3:13 PM
My dogs just traded my guns for bones. Darn those dogs, now I have to hope a wayward gun comes wandering by so I can wrestle it to the ground, tame it, and make it mine.

I have real doubts about the results of this poll. If some stranger phones me up and starts asking me questions like: “Are you an NRA member?” or “How many guns do you have in your home?”, I’m going to hang up on them about as fast as if they asked me how much cash I keep on hand at home.
I also know that the NRA never releases their member list, meaning there is no way to find out whether anybody who answers questions about NRA membership one way or the other is lying, not to mention their answers about gun ownership.
So, really, when the Center for American Progress (a liberal lobby and think-tank) says their study commissioned by Mayors Against Illegal Guns surveyed the tiny sample 945 self-selected and self-described gun owners and NRA members nation-wide, I can’t give those statistics any credence whatsoever.
Socratease on December 26, 2012 at 3:19 PM
They are very afraid of them. I’ve always said that there is acceptable death and unacceptable death. It’s different from person to person but basically a gunman killing 20 kids is unacceptable. Using a knife or bat on them is more acceptable. A school bus crashing and killing 20 kids is completely acceptable.
In all cases the above should be unacceptable but it just doesn’t work that way for a great many people.
They have this delusion that smaller bullets, single shot firearms. knifes and bats are better because it allows for far less death or the chance to run away. They also feel that a gun allows the killer to be detached from the crime and having to use a knife would “put-off” many would be killers.

Cause “Danger” is my middle name.
Dr. Frank Enstine on December 26, 2012 at 3:26 PM
Bull Shi…..
Are we to believe that most gun owners want even MORE Oppressive governmental control over their means of self-defense?
Oppressive governmental control that always leads to the confiscation of their means of self-defense?
Galt2009 on December 26, 2012 at 3:26 PM
Why do you want people deprived of their means of self-defense?
Galt2009 on December 26, 2012 at 3:28 PM

Nah. It just thought it had me in a BIG got you kind of way. Now it can trot off and tell all its liberal friends how cool it was catching a conservative being hypocritical or something or other. Like the Borg Queen said, more or less, “They think so small”. See, now I can go tell all my Trekkie buddies how cool I was putting a liberal in their place with a paraphrased Trek quote. Yup, I be cool tonight.

Big Sis has a special list…
This poll is horse manure. I am not buying it. Especially this:

Wow! What an amazing coincidence that everything in that poll confirms the leftists’ gun control wet dream talking points.
