Inouye for all his many faults was an intelligent and competent legislator. Now with Maize Hirono (and out-and-out idiot who is as dumb as she thinks she is smart) sitting in one seat I expected someone competent to get the nod for the sake of the state. A puzzling choice indeed.
Brian Schatz grew up in Hawaii, attending Punahou School there followed by a B.A. in Philosophy from Pomona College in Claremont, California. While at Pomona, Schatz also spent a term studying in Kenya as part of the International Training Program, where Schatz developed skills as a public servant.
I believe he first met Barky back towards the end of the ’08 campaign, when Barky went to Honolulu to “visit his sick Tutu” and also coincidentally when Barky was having trouble getting certified by the Hawaii Demorat party, of which Schatz was then the State chair.
Blowback

Huge slap in the face to Inouye’s memory. He wanted Hanabusa, and he made no secret of this.
The coming sh*tstorm inside the Hawaii Democratic Party will require popcorn, folks.

So did he meet Barky at Punahou or Kenya?

He has a hilarious last name.

It’s the subjunctive pluperfect.

Well, obviously, obama demanded that Schatz be chosen – what could go wrong? What’s he up to?

Really?
How fortunate for him.
