Data shows assault-weapons ban no guarantee for decreasing mass shootings
But crime trends over the past few decades offer a mixed verdict on whether renewing the ban would reduce the kinds of mass shootings that have spurred calls for its re-enactment in the first place.
Data published earlier this year showed that while the ban was in place, from 1994 to 2004, the number of mass shootings actually rose slightly during that period.
Add to that the fact that most gun crimes in America are committed with handguns, and the gun lobby enters this debate with some potent statistics. …
At the same time, gun control advocates note that modest decreases in assault-weapon crimes were recorded during the ban. A revived version won’t stop gun crime in America, but, advocates argue, it could spare some lives from the violence on America’s streets, in its schools and in its homes.

There is no “mixed verdict.” There simply is no statistical correlation. Period. Correlation =/= causation, but here you have NO CORRELATION. I’m about ready to pull out what’s left of my hair.

The truth is, gun control will only reduce crime if it involves a mass confiscation of guns–an act that is likely unconstitutional and that would be practically very difficult to achieve. Otherwise, all gun control does is unilaterally disarm law-abiding citizens.

Every adult over the age of 18 should be required to own a firearm (and the ammo for it.)
How about that, Liberals?
Works in many places around the world.

And what do facts have to do with this discussion. What’s important is how politicians and the media will FEEL.

The Left doesn’t care what “works” or not. They have an agenda. No guns. The tragedies are just horses for them to ride. It’s despicable.

What’s to stop the Oppressives from simply banning every Weapon that’s able to Assault people?
Assault Weapon is an arbitrary term – one that could be easily used to ban all guns – and any other weapon for that matter.

In Montana, where we have lots and lots of guns and some of the most lax gun laws, we had 28 murders last year in a population of just under 1 million. In 1960, the era of Ozzie and Harriet, we had 26 murders, and that was with a population of about 600,000. If you’d like to cherry-pick some numbers there were only 14 murders in 2007. Murders started to go up in the late sixties and reached a plateau in the 70s and 80s before shrinking to the current levels. Let’s see, what happened in the late sixties?
The idea of gun control reducing murders is a complete fraud.

It is so charming that conservatives think that no correlation to atrocities like Newton will deter progressives from their ultimate goal of disarming all private citizens. In fact, the lack of a correlation is a feature, not a bug, to progressives. By exploiting atrocities like Newton to further their agenda and by ensuring that the resultant legislation passed with a sense of crisis will do nothing to really deter killings progressives are guaranteed more atrocities. More atrocities=more crisis and more crisis=furthering their agenda.
Progressives aren’t quite to the point of creating the atrocities for propaganda purposes–the way their Islamist allies do–but they are pleased when they occur.

You can assault someone with words, or even a “look.”
Assault is in the :eye” of the victim.

The left has always used the failure of their policies as proof that they weren’t applying them *hard* enough.

I remember once while I was living in Massachusetts, the NY State Police arrested a Brinks armored car crew coming back from Canada for not declaring their weapons at the border. I’m pretty sure that New York is one of the circles of hell.
