Toy donations pour into Newtown for the holidays
“When I realized that it was getting so large, I thought that we should get this to the children before the holidays,” says Ann Benore, a caseworker for Newtown Social Services.
Benore has organized this toy giveaway for all Newtown children and families. There’s a special collection for students of Sandy Hook Elementary School who survived the massacre. She says they’ve received more than 60,000 stuffed animals and thousands more toys…
All toys were first examined by local police; there’s a group of officers standing at the back of the gym. Children ooh and ahh as they enter — and are handed bags. They walk through and choose cuddly bears or games, or both.

Americans always give. Government always takes.

These kids are upper middle class. They don’t need free toys. They need to go back to some sort of normalcy — not given free stuff nor oo’d and ahhh’d over.

Yes, and just think of all the kids who have nothing at Christmas. Why not give to Toys for Tots or a local toy charity.

What he said.
Having survived VA Tech back in ’07 I just wanted everyone and everything to GO AWAY. The sooner that crap ends the better for EVERYONE involved especially when children are involved.

No disrespect to the victims intended, but all this ostentatious wallowing sometimes produces a backlash against the ostentatious wallowers.

Like I commented in the QOTD the charity and donations will become a so big that most will either end in a warehouse for years or in the trash. When every kid has had their fill there will still be leftovers that will go to no one.

Donate to a local charity in the name of the victims. There are so many children who could use the toys…

Honestly, the last things the victims’ families need are toys that their dead kids can no longer use. The kids in Newtown who could use them are already fortunate enough to be alive. How about some cash for the families who had to pay for funerals, instead?
