“[I]t will be the most colossal consequential act of congressional irresponsibility in a long time”
“It’s the first time that I feel it’s more likely that we will go over the cliff than not,” Senator Joe Lieberman, an independent from Connecticut, said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
“If we allow that to happen it will be the most colossal consequential act of congressional irresponsibility in a long time, maybe ever in American history.”…
Democratic Senator Kent Conrad, chairman of the Budget Committee, said Obama and Boehner are not that far apart and that both sides should keep pushing for a long-term big deal.
“I would hope we would have one last attempt here to do what everyone knows needs to be done, which is the larger plan that really does stabilize the debt and get us moving in the right direction,” Conrad of North Dakota told Fox News Sunday.

you mean besides Obamacare, which the Dem House leader said they have to pass it so they can find out what’s in it, and the MSM yawned ?

Funny. I would have thought that running up a $16 trillion debt on short-term credit was the most irresponsible thing Congress has ever done.
But, then again, I say that as someone who can’t print money. So, there’s that…

That’t the type of comment you expect to hear from the Stalins, Hitlers, Maos, etc. Way to go , pelosi-ites!

Sen. Lieberman, I would suggest that your Senate Majority Leader’s failure to produce a budget in over three years is more colossal of an act of dereliction. Also, his shelving of House-generated bills to address economic problems is notable for grave consequences.
Why have you not been forthright in pointing our the failures of the Senate leadership, Sen. Lieberman? It is there that you should be addressing your concerns about irresponsibility.
It wouldn’t be a bad idea to single out Sen. Reid’s outrageous statements in the Senate chamber as abuses of power, too.

Setting us up for a fiscal cliff was the most irresponsible of the current bad actions of congress.
Letting us go over that cliff is actually a responsible action. Accepting consequences is a responsible action. The fiscal cliff is the consequence of congress not acting.
Yes, the American people are going to suffer, but they do so because they elected irresponsible representatives to congress and the presidency.

Wow you guys covered everything I couldda said. Real tough words from Lieberman, eh–a man who has about a week left in the egregiously obstructionist-led US Senate.
stukinIL4now on December 24, 2012 at 10:46 AM
How come the Senate isn’t involved? Oh, I forgot. You guys have totally given up on all of your responsibilities. And that’s not irresponsible at all. /s

The same excuse was used as the solution for the past failures over and over.
So. How can this be the most colossal failure, when it is the accumulated result of all past failure?

What a joke. The reason we’re in this fiscal mess is because of congressional irresponsibility.
fogw on December 24, 2012 at 11:03 AM
Sad fact: B.O. wants to “go over the cliff” because polls show that Republicans will be blamed. Nothing to do with the good of the country, only the good of the Democrats. (Disclaimer-Both parties suck)

The only people with less credibility than Congress is the media.

Eff these compromise junkies…this problem has a right and a wrong side, and I don’t want a compromise…I want the Democrats to capitulate (having long given up on Democrats to suddenly realize that running $1.5 trillion deficits is a problem).
We don’t need a compromise…we need a small asteroid to hit the DNC.
Jaibones on December 24, 2012 at 11:15 AM
And there is the problem.
Some moron in Congress thinks an increase in spending is stabilizing the debt.
ButterflyDragon on December 24, 2012 at 11:18 AM
You want to stabilize the debt?? Go over the cliff, let all income earners chip in more revenues, and let the cuts reduce spending in a tangible way. Less spending, more income. That’s how I stabilize my debt, it ought to work here.

Vote “Present” …
What’s so hard about that? No matter what compromises you make – the media will blame the GOP.
The meme is … “The GOP is an obstructionist party”. Voting “present” shatters that meme to pieces – anyone trying to hawk it after the GOP votes “present” would look ridiculous.
The reason Boehner don’t wanna do it?
Because Boehner isn’t a believer in the superiority of the conservative ideology. He’s worried about the economy IMPROVING under Obama’s unrestricted hand. Why? Socialism got us into this mess – it’s not going to reverse the process but Boehner, not being a believer, doesn’t want to take the chance.
