The comments posted at the article are reasons why I have joined the "let it burn" crowd. I firmly believe that while I will be forced to give up more of my income in the coming months and years, I think those of us who are resourceful will weather the storm.

The Liberals believe two very wrong myths. First, that Republicans are the source of all the problems of this country. While I never was a fan of some of Bush's adventures in his second term, one cannot ignore 4.5% unemployment and a boom created by the tax cuts. We also cannot ignore the damage done as far back as 1989 that lead to the housing bubble bursting and millions of Americans losing their lifestyle as a result.

The second myth is that taxing the "rich" will balance our budget. The notion that if we just tax the rich a little bit more, all the country's financial problems will be fixed.

Let's go over the cliff! Let's go over on fire yelling our lungs out. When we hit the bottom, it will be liberals who find their wealth wiped out and them out of work. The pain needs to be swift, and sharp for people to notice. It needs to be so unavoidable that even the deafening silence of the main stream media will be unable to totally ignore it.

The GOP needs to vote present on whatever the President wants. That isn't sacrificing your principles or caving to demands. It is understanding that the country needs to experience the government it elected. Like it or not, several million Republicans who stayed home voted for Obama too and they need to feel this pain as well.

The country needs a hard dose of the bad medicine it asked for. We will survive and return to prosperity. America has survive much worse than President Obama and this low information voter army that put him into office.

Obama and the Democrats can submit their middle-class only tax bill, but it still must come from the House which the GOP controls. The GOP can amend it any way they choose including a larger tax cut for all and massive spending cuts. The Dems will have the onus of hjgh taxes and deficits. It only takes courage.

He needs a scapegoat for the coming recession.

Pretty much. He knows he can't blame Bush throughout his 2nd term. Even the drive-bys are gonna have a hard time carrying his water on that one. But the entire opposition party? That's a much easier foil. Especially since unlike Obama's predecessor who's been sitting at home in Dallas for nearly 4 years now, the GOP actually does wield some power in DC at the moment.

The question is what do the Republicans do to counter this? If you're gonna end up caving and giving Obama everything he wants in late January or early February once people notice their taxes have gone up, then just give him what he wants now and at least make him own it. If he vetoes it or Harry Reid blocks it so we go over the cliff anyway, then at least he won't be able to blame everything on the GOP.

Go for it!

However,
at the last second they will all come up with some type of legislation to delay any "fiscal cliff" actions...more time needed...blah,blah, blah.

Obama would prefer to delay it until the 2014 mid-term elections to blame the Republicans...
