If there are any conservatives/libertarians here at HA who advocate federalizing school security, I musta missed it. Anyway, I’m for some version of armed security personnel in every school, but as a state and local function. By no means can it be federal, for some of the very reasons you note.

Not sure I can support LaPierre on the national database. At first blush, hazards seem to outweigh benefits. Let the states handle it, with some reasonable provisions for info sharing as needed. Will have to give it more thought.

Dear Morons,

Once you federalize the protection of schools you have federalized curriculum, admissions, food etc. You think Michelle Obama food plan sucks now? Yes there are federal standards now but wait until your kids are being force-fed “healthy food” at gunpoint. Wait until they are compelled to report what’s in their parents’ medicine cabinets, purses and glove-boxes. Wait until they are forced to report on your protection AKA guns.

A better option is for local neighbors to pool their funds and pay for security. Group buy security services much like many people do with insurance, food supplies etc.

Open your eyes. The right is overreacting just as badly as the left.

Wayne LaPierre called for a national database of American citizens based on their mental health. FAIL!

I was just watching a video of Feinstein’s Friday press conference. She said that 2/3 of schools already have armed security, and she supports individual school districts of they decide to add police.

But then all the progs are saying the NRA’s proposal is literally crazy.

These people are running on pure, raw unfiiltered emotion, mostly hate.

You should see the headlines on the Ny Post and Daily News. Deranged.

We can afford money to put cops in schools, but can’t afford new text books, professional development for teachers, higher salaries to attract the truly talented, school construction to ensure small classrooms and music and arts programs? It most likely wouldn’t work.
Seems like crazed killers are not “crazed” enough to not pick out soft targets. If a target is armed, he/she will just pick one that is not. The only general protection is to have people in the general population to be able to carry legal and licensed arms.
Not a perfect solution, but what is?

We can afford all of that now. Unfortunately, the education establishment is more concerned about using that money to add more high priced administrators, than using education funds on things that actually help children learn.

I am a computer technician for my local school district by trade, and if I were allowed to carry, I would. Those post-Columbine “emergency” (read shooter in the school) drills always scare the crap out of me. I’d like to feel that if one day it is not a drill, I have a better option than attempting to bash the brains in of some crazy bastard with a gun.
