Mike Bloomberg: Nobody’s defended the Second Amendment as much as I have
“I don’t think there’s anybody that’s defended the Second Amendment as much as I have,” said Bloomberg. “I think you have a perfect right to buy weapons and keep them for protection or for sport. We have tried to make sure that you have it. The Supreme Court says that there are–consistent with the Second Amendment–you can have reasonable restrictions, so, for example, you can’t buy a nuclear-tipped weapon.”

Blowback

The purpose of the 2nd amendment and the Constitution is a constraint on government.
Why are petty tyrants like Bloomy trying to remove that Constraint?

Surely the little tyrant understands the purpose of the 2nd Amendment is to protect us from people like him.

Wish we would have know that before that nut walked through Sandy Hook shooting kids with nuclear-tipped bullets!

Galt2009 on December 21, 2012 at 12:33 PM
Build that straw man any higher and you’ll need a permit.
Typical liberal exaggeration of a position with which they disagree. Notice how we on the right never suggest that women are having abortions for the sheer fun of it.
Every time one of these morons starts talking about “reasonable restrictions” what they suggest always completely takes the teeth out of the 2nd Amendment. But ask for a reasonable restriction on killing an unborn child (like maybe not killing a nine-month fetus by sucking her brains out), and you’re accused of punishing young girls with the offspring of rapists and redneck uncles or forcing them into back alleys to die at the hands of hacks armed with coat hangers.

Interesting how the Oppressive-Left can’t get all worked up about all those deaths of children….. just like they can’t get all worked up over the 300+ deaths from Obama’s Gun for Gangsters Operation.
Galt2009 on December 21, 2012 at 12:38 PM
I literally just laughed out loud when I read that headline.

LMAO.
Face it Bloomie, you’re no Obama when it comes to rhetorical persuasion.
Dusty on December 21, 2012 at 12:42 PM
Murder is perfectly acceptable to the left (see 20th century communism). It’s only when it can be used to bludgeon the right do they ever appear outraged.
darwin on December 21, 2012 at 12:44 PM
I didn’t. I don’t find bald-faced lies humorous.
Like a typical liberal, he lies through his teeth, knowing he’s lying through his teeth, and knowing the lickspittle media knows he’s lying through his teeth, almost daring someone to grow a set and call him out on it, knowing they never will.
CurtZHP on December 21, 2012 at 12:44 PM
Our side loses because we fall into the trap of accepting the left’s PREMISE every time.
The correct answer to gun control: Unless the 2nd Amendment is repealed or replaced CONGRESS NOR THE PRESIDENT HAS ANY AUTHORITY WHATSOEVER to ban guns or confiscate them.
Anyone who obeys any such law is themselves a lawbreaker. Any police officer or other government agent who attempts to enforce any such law is a criminal.
wildcat72 on December 21, 2012 at 12:47 PM
Don’t want one of those. So let’s settle at the AR-15 and call it a day.
Jabberwock on December 21, 2012 at 12:48 PM
Because they’ve had it up to here (holding hand above head) with having to pettily tinker around the edges of tyranny. It grates people like him to no end, having to plead and persuade, cloaking his intentions of dictatorship with the rhetoric of freedom.
Dusty on December 21, 2012 at 12:51 PM
Does this tell you something about the falling IQs of the american librul electorate? New York City elected bloomberg (I think they confused him with “bloom County”); Nevada, the crookedest state, elected the crookedest senator in dingy hairy reid; and Californika still elects the nutty as a fruitcake (and dishonest) San Francisco nan. The whole stupid country elected “I never take a vacation” obama.
If they want any coopertion in gun control, the leftist/librul/marxist/environmental whackos need to stop theatening the rest of us with violence and murder for our views.

Ever since Sandy Hook, Hotair has turned into gun nut central. Almost every headline is an article reassuring them that:
“despite this latest massacre, guns in tens of millions of households are a good thing! Remember, we need these guns to protect us from the evil doings of the US government and their tyrannical plots”
This is the kind of paranoia we get from 9/11 Truthers. This is Alex Jones territory. The only difference between you nuts and the Alex Jones-types is that they say this plot is currently underway, you guys say it might happen at any time – so we need to be prepared.
Congrats on joining the ranks of the notoriously mentally ill.

The intent of the second amendment was to be the citizen’s check and balance on the power of the State.
wildcat72 on December 21, 2012 at 1:02 PM
Me: So I can own a gun?
Bloomberg: Yes. The Second Amendment says so.
Me: Can I have a 20 oz. soda?
Bloomberg: Of course not. We have to protect you from you.

John the Libertarian on December 21, 2012 at 1:13 PM
This. We are all created equal. That means our lives are just as important a Obama and Bloomburg’s. They’re men just like us created by the same Creator. The reason they think they can demand we give up some of our rights is because they have tax payer funded guards being paid to worry about their security 24/7. We don’t get that luxury so its left up to us. These pols fancy themselves as gods or overlords. They see themselves are higher more important than us. That’s why the founders gave us the 2nd Amendment. To level the playing field. Isn’t that one of Obama’s favorite slogans? How ironic.
jawkneemusic on December 21, 2012 at 1:19 PM

Heh. The NRA has been gaining 8000 new members every day since the Newtown massacre. Did they suddenly become interested in hunting deer ,or, out of the blue, recognize the need for self defense? No, Bloomy, they didn’t. They did(and do) recognize a threat to the Bill of Rights.

Just to be clear, I’m not referring to police officers as pigs. The nomenklatura are the pigs.
