Cuomo: Gun “confiscation” could be an option
According to Cuomo, his state’s existing laws regarding those matters have “more holes than Swiss cheese.”
“I don’t think legitimate sportsmen are going to say, ‘I need an assault weapon to go hunting,’” he said, echoing the sentiment of many other pro-gun control advocates before him, while noting: “I understand the rights of gun owners; I understand the rights of hunters.”
The governor then laid out several ideas for how the state would enforce stricter laws on those so-called “assault” weapons: “Confiscation could be an option. Mandatory sale to the state could be an option. Permitting could be an option — keep your gun but permit it,” he said.

Confiscation wouldn’t work in New York City, much less Watertown, Binghamton, or Plattsburgh.

They are trying to create civil unrest. It will justify whatever they plan to do to us next.

Easy to imagine a photo op similar to the beer kegs being chopped up with axes during Prohibition. As though alcohol disappeared because of a new law.

People keep asking the wrong question: “Why do you need an assault rifle to go hunting?”
Here’s the answer to why people need an assault rifle.
When the government sends armed flunkies to confiscate your guns, which would you rather have in your home to protect your rights? A bolt-action single-shot hunting rifle, or an AR-15 with a large capacity magazine?
The Rogue Tomato on December 22, 2012 at 12:05 AM
He may understand hunters, but he does not understand the Second Amendment!

Come out and say it: Civil War could be an option.
Browncoatone on December 22, 2012 at 12:10 AM
Have we determined which assault weapons they are talking about? According to these fools, any semi automatic weapon is an assault weapon now?

Schadenfreude on December 22, 2012 at 12:40 AM
Haven’t hunted since I was a kid, and don’t care what hunters hunt with, although I do know I can nail a silver dollar at 200 yards.
I need my AR-15 to defend myself from the Obommunists and his free shit army.

SCOTUS was pretty clear in their earlier rulings. They think they’re going to change their mind the second time around?
ButterflyDragon on December 22, 2012 at 12:49 AM
Now that he’s said confiscation is a possibility, good luck convincing gun owners to register for a permit.

You think we still live in a constitutional republic under rule of law?
How quaint.

Good luck with that.
John the Libertarian on December 22, 2012 at 3:31 AM
It’s not about hunting and it’s never been. What, is he totally stupid??
Amendment II
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
Has he ever read this??? No, does he comprehend this??? Obviously not.
DanaSmiles on December 22, 2012 at 5:26 AM
Um the 2nd amendment has NOTHING to do with hunting so I do not even understand why it is in the discussions. Its about being able to own firearms to defend ourselves either from attackers or be it the government.
Let me say this, it they try to confiscate the guns, its not going to end well, of course this might be what they want…. also will not even take guns out of the hands of the criminals.

The gun control crowd is constantly amazed at the hostility to their “ideas” among gun owners? Every time they say this stuff they reinforce the logic for needing guns.
Dumber than a box of rocks.

Zero is planning to change the Court, since he now has more flexibility. If anyone in this nation needs bodyguards, it’s conservative justices.
IrishEyes on December 22, 2012 at 6:35 AM
If we can be taxed for doing nothing, we can have our guns taken away. The Constitution is now a facade, a guideline at best.
elfman on December 22, 2012 at 7:19 AM
This is great stuff for the conservative movement.
.
Dems keep handing us clubs, use them.
.
You want to get low info voters to switch and/or stay home, let them know the Dems want to take their guns.
Repeat until election time.
LincolntheHun on December 22, 2012 at 7:34 AM
And all handguns are”Saturday Night Specials”.
All scoped weapons will soon be termed “Sniper Rifles”.
And wait til the grabbers start telling the public how many “projectiles” a shotgun sends downrange with one pull of the trigger.
“If you were a good hunter you wouldn’t need fifteen bullets to shoot a deer”. (paraphrase of an actual Facebook comment.)
Say goodbye to that 870 with the magazine extension.
And expect to see lots of pictures like this.

Steve Eggleston on December 22, 2012 at 8:21 AM
This is the REAL reason for the 2nd Amendment.
The Constitution is clear about everything it says.
I believe it was Sam Adams that uttered something about how the words in the Constitution shall not be construed to disparage others their rights.
This has been overdone for DECADES.
And people do not even know the history of the founding of America anymore anyway.
They really think a communist socialist government would be a good thing.
Dear God in heaven save us from these evil people.

Mr Cuomo needs to read both Heller and McDonald. He has no authority to confiscate guns. The Court has spoken and individuals have a right to bear arms and to defend themselves. Neither the Federal government nor the states can infringe upon those rights, as they are laid out in the decisions.
And, for the record for those that see a white people/NRA love guns because they are afraid of black people, an argument that has been making the rounds on the Left, both of the original plaintiffs in the biggest two Second Amendment cases in decades or ever were both African-Americans. Shelley Parker was the original plaintiff in the Heller case. Otis McDonald was the plaintiff in McDonald. Ms Parker lived in the gun-banned/crime-ridden Washington DC. Mr McDonald lives in the gun-banned/crime-ridden city of Chicago. The NRA was asked to join in and declined.

Take them all now and fight in out in the SCOTUS in a couple of years. By the time SCOTUS decides it is to late and all the guns have been taken and all the dealers have been put out of business. So then what ever SCOTUS we have plays it safe and just says the 2nd never gave the people the right. The mistake of the founders was to include that militia clause in there. It leaves a crack that can and has been exploited.
Frank Enstine on December 22, 2012 at 9:15 AM
Meaningless because the left must at all time paint the opposition as racist. The sad part is that the “fill in the blank” group really thinks the left cares about them or they cause.
Frank Enstine on December 22, 2012 at 9:19 AM
are there any walls where Cuomo lives? he needs to be thrown against one and dealt with.
