We know how to stop school shootings
Only one public policy has ever been shown to reduce the death rate from such crimes: concealed-carry laws.
Their study controlled for age, sex, race, unemployment, retirement, poverty rates, state population, murder arrest rates, violent crime rates, and on and on. …
Someone planning to commit a single murder in a concealed-carry state only has to weigh the odds of one person being armed. But a criminal planning to commit murder in a public place has to worry that anyone in the entire area might have a gun.
You will notice that most multiple-victim shootings occur in “gun-free zones” — even within states that have concealed-carry laws: public schools, churches, Sikh temples, post offices, the movie theater where James Holmes committed mass murder, and the Portland, Ore., mall where a nut starting gunning down shoppers a few weeks ago.
Guns were banned in all these places. Mass killers may be crazy, but they’re not stupid.

By placing twice the number of “GUN FREE ZONE” signs on all doors.
And laminating the signs to protect them from inclement weather.

It’s just the opposite with liberals.
Paul-Cincy on December 20, 2012 at 10:36 AM
The obvious corollary: Liberal gun restriction policies have CAUSED many of these mass shootings.
Of course, if they were squeamish about killing kids, they wouldn’t be liberals in the first place.
logis on December 20, 2012 at 10:37 AM
Actually, libs are both crazy and stupid.
Bitter Clinger on December 20, 2012 at 10:38 AM
And aren’t the people who deemed these places “gun-free zones” responsible for the security of these zones? They’d have to be, right, unless they are just trying to create easy shooting galleries with these zones? Why aren’t we blaming the people who made the zone gun free and then failed to protect it? Those people are negligent and should be arrested.
Buddahpundit on December 20, 2012 at 10:38 AM
I can’t disagree with a thing Ann has said here, but I have to add that Baker Act provisions in all 50 states would go a long way in keeping most of the crazies off the streets in the first place.
gryphon202 on December 20, 2012 at 10:38 AM
Remember all those mass murders at police stations, gun shows and shooting ranges? Me neither.

Ann Coulter trying to become relevant again after her long self imposed exodus to stupid land?

These days concealed carry is almost a moral obligation.

Hey! Did you guys know that a 2 year old child’s life was saved by a gun last night in Houston? Of course you didn’t. Doesn’t fit the narrative of guns killing kids.
Weight of Glory on December 20, 2012 at 10:47 AM
the NRA needs to go on the attack about gun free zones and blame the liberal policies for these deaths. America must hear the otherside of the argument. This is the time that the NRA as well as other pro 2nd amendment types HAVE to go on the attack. If they continue to sit back and let the media run with the gun control myth we are finished. America must have both sides of the debate before they make a decision.

I wish that it was someone other than Ann saying this. She is easily written off as a bombthrower by the left and many on the right no longer respect her or believe her. By Ann saying it. would have been so much better if a liberal/mod rep like Mitt or Brown would have said it.

Think how much more free we would be today if pilots could carry before 9-11. Think of how many sons and daughters would still be here. Schools are no different.

It has its own gravitational pull sometimes confused with conservatism but its really only a gas giant. Happens to be near the red dwarf in NYC called Bloomberg.

“Gun control? It’s the best thing you can do for crooks and gangsters. I want you to have nothing. If I’m a bad guy, I’m always gonna have a gun. Safety locks? You will pull the trigger with a lock on, and I’ll pull the trigger. We’ll see who wins.”

Ann got it exactly right. Highly recommend everyone read the entire article. Everything that is being recommended by the anti-gun crowd has been tried before and IT DOES NOT WORK!
SEE WHAT DOES WORK, by reading the article.

She missed one. Remember the Egyptian in late 01 who tried to shoot up the line at El Al Airlines at LAX. He was killed by a concealed-carry guy after he got off two rounds. The concealed-carry guy apparently was an El Al employee, so maybe he doesn’t count.

These daysconcealed carry isalmosta moral obligation. To be armed is one of the responsibilities of citizenship, like voting and jury duty.
The Constitution of most of our states (and of the United States) assert that all power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves; that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed.

Ya, I stopped listening to Christy-loving Ann after she endorsed Romney, way before the primary. Hope you’re proud of yourself Ann.

I don’t know. Bishop turned me on to the “Wailing Liberals in the Forest” video and from that moment on, I have always thought they were crazy AND stupid.

Unbelievable. I always like to say to Liberals “you don’t get your own facts” but in this case, they really are trying to get their own facts.

I’d like to see an update to this 2007 article on who’s killing who.
Is it really the case that the vast majority of the homicides are felon/criminal on felon/criminal? While I still want discussion to focus on immediate subject and solutions to leaving citizens defenseless in gun-free zones, if the progs want to drag the discussion of solutions for overall violent crime involving firearms, maybe we should also be talking about their War on Drugs and other pernicious regulations which foster black-markets which result in turf wars.
Just a thought. In any event, this aspect of the issue of rates of violent crime with firearms ought to be much clearer when going into discussions of what to do about gun control, because I’m not really interested in weighing 2nd amendment liberties of law abiding citizens in the balance against efforts to reduce the rates at which felons are killing felons.

In the VA Tech shooting, the Tucson shooting and the Aurora shootings, all the warning signs were there. It was the way those warning signs were handled that is the problem. When VA Tech found that student was “mentally ill” and demanded he be treated, there is no way to report that information to the system that does background checks for weapons purchases. Same with the Aurora shooter when the school psychiatrist became alarmed by his behavior. That should have sent a flag to see A: had the person recently purchased weapons and B: prevent the person from purchasing any until an screening had been done of the person. And if the person HAD recently purchased a weapon, to trigger an immediate interview with the person.
We have people who exhibit withdrawn personalities with a recent dramatic personality change. When someone is denied a weapons purchase, that should trigger a screening but that is expensive. Who does it? Who pays for it? As Rush Limbaugh said: “We don’t need gun control, we need lunatic control”.

Just a slight clarification
When you purchase a firearm in VA 5 databases are checked (used to be 6) to see if you are ineligible to purchase a firearm….
1. NCIC
2. VA Central Criminal Records Exchange (CCRE)
3. Interstate ID Index (III)
4. VA Database of Mental Incompetency
5. VA Criminal Information Network (VCIN) (also this is searched for protective orders)
6. Calendar file on handgun purchases (I think this is no longer checked after that stupid law was overturned).
Also checked is the FBI’s national instant check (NCIS) required by the Brady Bill.
The problem is that is that he was never entered into the Mental Incompetency database for I think legal reasons (protect his rights) not that VA has no way to check a persons mental state during a gun purchase.
