A gun ownership renaissance?
Over that span, the percentage of households with guns dropped from more than half in 1977 to just more than 30 percent in 2010. …
But then something happened in 2011. Gun ownership spiked to its highest level since 1994 — 47 percent.
The people who suddenly had more guns? Not the white males, the Southerners, and the Republicans most associated with guns. Instead they were mostly Democrats….
Either way, the increase in 2011 was the highest on record, and gun ownership levels in the East, the Midwest, among women and among Democrats were all higher than they had been in at least two decades.

It’s almost as if the remaining sane people of this nation are seeing what a disaster is becoming of it; a lawless administration, an eroding social structure, a legal system which ignores the innocent and punishes those who defend themselves.
The last quarter of 2009 says it all: 5 million guns sold along with 6 billion rounds of ammunition.

This is what I’ve been saying: People like Axelrod know that there are many, many otherwise solid Dem voters that love their guns. To put forth a gun-grab overreach now would enrage these voters, just in time for 2014.

Don’t tell that to morning joe and the rest of msdnc
cmsinaz on December 20, 2012 at 9:26 AM
Why would that matter? Even a majority repub congress would bow to BO. Heck, he may even be able to accomplish more with a repub congress because he wouldn’t have so many dems mucking up the plans.

Who would truthfully answer any pollster about their gun ownership..?
d1carter on December 20, 2012 at 9:31 AM
wait .. so slightly off topic, but did anyone else notice the banner ad for gun control running on that page…. from “Mayors against illegal guns”. Am I the only one totally confused by that.
codewhisperer on December 20, 2012 at 9:37 AM
They would be all confused, thinking “oh man, they probably bought all those semi-automatic automatic military guns with the shoulder things on the internet chatrooms! And all those bullet clips for magazines! SCARY!”
Not only that, but I think its funny how they fret over 300 million guns but not over 16 trillion dollars.
Gatsu on December 20, 2012 at 9:46 AM
I think it goes beyond that. The issue of gun rights is one of those “deal breakers.” If the Dems overreached and went gun-grabbing they would not just temporarily upset some of their voters, they would enrage them. I’m talking about -staying home for the next 2 election cycles- type of anger.
Gun rights is not a “normal,” everyday issue. If the Dems went overboard, they would do a lot of damage to their party. Long-lasting damage. This is just my take, living here in a dark-blue state….

How do you know HA is not pro gun control?
I think they have only limited control over the ads.

Are there any detachable magazines that can be loaded via a clip? Off hand I don’t know of any but that doesn’t mean there are not any. I never handled a firearm that uses a clip but so I don’t know how the whole system works. My son has a WW2 rifle that uses a clip. Maybe I’ll have to check it out this coming Xmas.
Frank Enstine on December 20, 2012 at 9:58 AM
.
Damage is already done, if you remind your friends and seek out low info voters we will flip the Senate, and run the Dems out of town, at least for a while.
.
But we have to remind people again and again and again
LincolntheHun on December 20, 2012 at 10:01 AM
IIRC most NATO 5.56 rifle magazines.
They standardized the magazine to a modified M-16 type magazine many years ago. We call them stripper clips and the Britts call them chargers.
cozmo on December 20, 2012 at 10:05 AM
Frank .. no .. no .. I’m not saying anything about the page or site where the banner was displayed (which is actually on the Washington Post page linked) .. I was just commenting on the banner itself. Its from the “Mayors against ILLEGAL guns” .. Do they want to make illegal guns more illegal?
codewhisperer on December 20, 2012 at 10:05 AM
Must. Do. Something!!!!!!
alwaysfiredup on December 20, 2012 at 10:21 AM
Got ya. Yeah I wonder about that. On the radio here in MA the was some official blabbing about how criminals don’t follow the gun laws so we have to have more so that criminals will follow them. To stupid to understand how stupid they are.
Frank Enstine on December 20, 2012 at 10:24 AM
Very true. And, as a factoid, in 1789 at the start of French Revolution the citizens stormed the Bastille in Paris not to free those who were imprisoned, but the get munitions.
SC.Charlie on December 20, 2012 at 10:37 AM
There are adapters for many military rifles with detachable mags to enable the mounting of stripper clips for loading the mag. The M14/M1A can be loaded with strippers without removing the magazine from the rifle. Some rifles with fixed magazines, like the SKS and Mosin Nagant, have the stripper mount integral to the bolt or the receiver like the M14/M1A.
Your son probably has an M1 Garand, which uses an enbloc clip. The clip, loaded with ammo, is inserted into the rifle’s internal magazine and is integral to it.

The M1 clip made a distinctive ping when it was ejected along with the last spent round. The enemy soldiers knew the American soldier had to reload. Of course American soldiers also used this unique sound to their advantage too. They developed a device to make that very sound.
SC.Charlie on December 20, 2012 at 10:58 AM
What about the ammo that the DHS, TSA, FDA, IRS, EPA, & Dept. of Fisheries didn’t buy?
roy_batty on December 20, 2012 at 11:03 AM
I have an M1 and so do most of my friends. I shoot mine a lot.
I love the sound of the ping in the morning. It sounds like…victory.
The myth of the ping getting GIs killed because it alerted the enemy that the rifle was empty is just that – a myth – and it’s been thoroughly debunked.
For me, the myth was shot down by my great uncles who fought in WWII. (2 in Europe, 1 one the Pacific)
