Second look at chamberpots?
Marcela and Ryan Marshall live in a well-to-do part of Brooklyn’s popular Park Slope neighborhood, but pay a (relatively) microscopic monthly rent of $300. If that seems unlikely, it’s because of an arrangement that’s a little unorthodox, but — as they’re quick to point out — not without precedent: Their apartment doesn’t have a bathroom, so they use chamberpots, as the building’s first tenants did nearly 150 years earlier.
“But not just any chamberpots,” Marcela said one recent afternoon, as she sat with Ryan on the stoop in front of their apartment. “We have some lovely ones from an artist in Red Hook who glazes them with sea glass.” …
“Let’s just say it was summer when we moved in,” Ryan continued, “and we don’t have or ideologically support air conditioning, so nights could get a little rough, especially when you don’t know what to expect when you lift the lid. I know — it’s not necessarily for the squeamish, but we’ve been doing it for three years now, and it’s helped us feel closer to the building, to its history, and to each other.”

Sounds illegal. I bet they don’t have toilet paper, either. There are environmental and cheap whackos who use wash clothes.

Obama’s America…we are reverting.
Oil Can on December 19, 2012 at 6:05 PM
Yep, illegal:
Blake on December 19, 2012 at 6:06 PM
You need to come into the illegal parts of LA. Illegals put toliet paper in the trash, because they don’t realize our sewer system can process it, unlike Central America.

This appears to be parody. Just so everyone is aware.

Yes, this is a terrific idea….for me to poop on.

bwahahahahahahahaha.
this is the future in america, without a doubt.
they are, of course, ideologically opposed to air conditioning, as a selfish, imperialist comfort, so what is one step further to requiring all of us to forego personal bathrooms in the interest of preserving nature, space, and “resources”?
we like to pretend these kinds of people are on the fringe, and while they are in terms of overall thought, they are right there in the mainstream of the people who rule this country.
sad, sad, days ahead…

And that’s why we’ve had cholera epidemics for hundreds of years.
Socratease on December 19, 2012 at 6:10 PM
How progressive!
I bet they use more water washing the chamber pot than a toilet would use. Why do they hate the earth?

I guess the nitwit doesn’t realize she’s dumping untreated human waste directly into whichever body of water the storm sewers (which is what the gutters are part of) in that part of town flow into.
Storm sewers and sanitary sewers are separate systems for a good reason – public health. These fools are contaminating a system that’s not designed for human waste.

And hundreds of years ago they had night soil collectors that took it away for you every morning.

These days, how can you tell?

There are no parodies in Obamamerica…the EPA banned them.

Parody.
AP is just messing with non New Yorkers.
He’s gotten mean ever since he got that tattoo.

No kiding. My neighbor has turned her back yard to veggie and fruit garden. Kids grew up and out, food is getting expensive. And she did the transition cheap. She cut out vacations, she has money in CD’s not earning interest that would usually pay for such stuff and she refuses to eat her principal. My in-laws are are going from a Tahoe to a Honda Pilot.
My point is that I’m not shocked this these days. I hate what the country is becoming.

Ummm … what have we just been saying about mental illness?
OldEnglish on December 19, 2012 at 6:26 PM
Probably because the Tahoe, whilst large, is a piece of crap and the Pilot isn’t?
Can’t be because of gas mileage unless they are accountants.

So do they eat with only their left hand. This is where that comes from.
BullShooterAsInElk on December 19, 2012 at 6:41 PM
It is completely illegal to dump human waste in the gutter. These losers, who do not “ideologically support air conditioning” (roll eyes), sound like typical obama liberals, who do not believe that laws apply to them.

Um, what were they sitting on I gotta wonder…?
You’re not a NYer I take it…
JetBoy on December 19, 2012 at 6:53 PM
Actually…that’s backwards.
In arab countries, the right hand is for eating or whatever; and the left is for wiping.

May I borrow your salad bowl…?
NeoKong on December 19, 2012 at 7:36 PM
I’m willing to bet the Pilot has had more recalls and a higher repair rate in R/1000 than the Tahoe.
