Scott Brown says he now supports a federal ban on assault weapons
Although he once said banning so-called assault weapons fell under the category of issues best left to the states, Republican U.S. Sen. Scott Brown told The Republican / MassLive.com in an exclusive interview Wednesday that he now supports federal action.
Brown cited the Newtown, Connecticut school shooting that killed 26 people, including 20 children, as the turning point in his stance on the issue.
“What happened in Newtown where those children were subject to that level of violence is beyond my comprehension. As a state legislator in Massachusetts I supported an assault weapons ban thinking other states would follow suit. But unfortunately, they have not and innocent people are being killed,” Brown said. “As a result, I support a federal assault weapons ban, perhaps like the legislation we have in Massachusetts.”

Former senator really wants to be a senator again; he and Crist would get along swimmingly.
By this time next week Brown will have discovered his long-lost Ojibwe heritage.

LOL
Hey there genius. The weapon used wouldn’t have been covered under the last assault weapons ban.
I’m guessing anything that isn’t single action is going to be considered an “assault weapon”?
ButterflyDragon on December 19, 2012 at 11:08 PM
What difference would it have made, none of the guns used were assault weapons, in fact he used pistols as most of these evil people do so a ban on assault weapons would have no affect! Perhaps we should ban gun free zones first and allow people to defend themselves.

C’mon no one really expected anything different from a Massachusetts Republican did they? Let’s not act surprised.

Good thing Scott lost his seat. Sure wouldn’t want a another stupid Democrat holding Ted Kennedy’s seat… oh wait…
katy on December 19, 2012 at 11:13 PM
Of course he does. The POS voted for Dodd-Frank, too. And he didn’t say jack trying to stop ObamaCare when he first came in – which was the only reason he was elected.
Brown’s as useless as the fake Indian taking his seat. Both are Mass trash.
ThePrimordialOrderedPair on December 19, 2012 at 11:14 PM
Let me see if I got this right. A handful of people out of nearly 300,000,000 people break the law and the rest of the population has rights taken away? Is this the modern liberal method of thinking?
In a weird way this is profiling on a massive scale.

So will he vote for the ban?

Connecticut has had an assault weapons ban in place since 1993.
A federal ban would have done nothing to stop this shooting.

What Brown meant to say:
“Remember me? I’m still available and next time I’m going to be a proper Mass liberal. It’s tough out here in the private sector….let me back in, please!”

These people have zero principles. Whatever way the wind blows.. whichever way the crowd goes.. that’s how they “lead.”
I think some politicians would sell their own mothers and children if they thought a large majority of Americans in the latest poll favored it… and they’d be called a racist and extremist if they didn’t.

But we needed him.. He is the ONLY person we could elect in a blue state. He votes with us “some” of the time unlike Democrats//

You know, I don’t want to buy any more AR-15′s. I want a CNC lathe so I can start making my own, whenever the mood strikes.
TexasDan on December 20, 2012 at 12:00 AM
Brown is a Colonel in the MA National Guard too IIRC
Honestly, I really don’t care and expect this kind of crap out of him
You guys act like having RINOs in hard blue states is no better than far left socialists like Warren
But if we had a few more RINOs we’d take the gavel out of that jerk Reid’s hands
So much of our misery comes from the ridiculous amount of corrup power Reid weilds with his gavel
Getting BRINO back in the Senate puts us one seat closer for 2014

It really sucks when I hear “Republicans” say stuff like this. They just don’t get America.
Why do they even bother calling themselves “Republicans” anyway? Might as well just call themselves Democrats. What a joke.

Who cares what a soon-to-be ex-Senator from MA thinks?
besser tot als rot on December 20, 2012 at 12:06 AM
It sure isn’t the classical liberal (Jeffersonian) way of thinking.
This is why I don’t use the word “liberal” much anymore. These people are anything BUT liberal. They are far left radicals, and we must refer to them as leftists.
Yep. Progressives are collectivists. They are the opposite of the founders, who were individualists.
UltimateBob on December 20, 2012 at 12:08 AM
A person insane enough to murder children in a gun free zone with stolen weapons will not care if the weapons used are illegal.
txhsmom on December 20, 2012 at 12:42 AM
And? Who cares if they bend over and take it up the rear on every flippin’ issue?
topdawg on December 20, 2012 at 1:18 AM
For the love of God, would someone please define assault weapons in a way that doesn’t sound like a vague platitude or doesn’t make the person who says it look like an idiot?
If I threaten you with a pepperbox revolver, and you don’t have so much as a rock in your hand, I’d say that’s pretty damned assaulting. Why hasn’t it been banned yet? I can load it on Sunday and shoot all week.
Why not just say “Something that looks like it was made in the past 50 years, that I saw in a Vietnam war movie, and I’m intimidated by.” At least then you’ll be honest. You’ll still look like an idiot, but you’ll be honest.

Scott Brown beclowned himself a creep when he marketed his daughter in his first campaign.
He was a bit better than degenerate Ted the Communist Oldsmobile Skipper but not much.

This is why I’m ambivalent about the prospects of him picking up Kerry’s seat. If this guy hasn’t dropped below the Mendoza Line, he’s pretty damn close. Just as I’d prefer to have Castle than the Bearded Marxist, I don’t miss having to see the media give him a platform in which to attack conservatives.
The Count on December 20, 2012 at 7:19 AM
It was left to the state and the state of Connecticut has an almost identical ban as the federal ban on the guns. The weapons used where all legal under that ban and would be legal if they reauthorize the same law as the 96′ assault ban.

Keep thinking that when the person who replaced him votes for 100% ban on all variations of AR-15 and all semiautomatic hand guns which she would in a new york minute if it came for a vote.
tjexcite on December 20, 2012 at 7:31 AM
Hey squish, try reading the daily papers of Chicago. Pfft. I live in the Tidewater area of VA and am amazed at the senseless, callous, evil murders that happen frequently. Anyone, such as Sen. Brown & the Dem senators Manchin & Warner, who jumps on the “ban assault weapons” bandwagon is only doing it for political expediency and falling for the Obama/Progressives narrative and push for gun control. It’s their moment and they’re seizing it. The rest who agree or have a change of heart have no principles and fear Obama and the SRM more than anything else. The murderers will get guns even if the governing class ban every single one. The problem will still be with us and they’ll remove the right of people to defend themselves. But they don’t care; there’s an agenda to fulfill and a radical checklist to complete.
