Are you ready for Senator Ben Affleck?
Believe it or not, one name I have heard tossed around is that of actor-director Ben Affleck, the pride of Cambridge, who’s been active in Democratic Party politics for more than a decade.
Go ahead and laugh if you want to, but keep in mind, anyone who’s over 30, a citizen, and able to get 10,000 certified signatures can enter this race.
And you don’t even have to be a legal resident of Massachusetts until Election Day.

I had already wondered if Deval Patrick would name him to replace Kerry.

It’ll be worse than Pearl Harbor.

No one is laughing.
BigGator5 on December 19, 2012 at 12:37 PM
He’ll have to marry into the Kennedy family first.

Matt Damon approves

Senator Hairpiece.

“Matt… Damon” – Matt Damon

…
Still not funny.
BigGator5 on December 19, 2012 at 12:42 PM
Meh, why not? He won’t be much worse than the rest of the Democrats and a few Republicans.
forest on December 19, 2012 at 12:43 PM
It’ll be worse than Gigli.
Bitter Clinger on December 19, 2012 at 12:44 PM
Better than a Kennedy.
gwelf on December 19, 2012 at 12:46 PM
The bar was set pretty dang low with Al Franken, so another self-righteous liberal amateur like Aflac wouldn’t surprise me.
KS Rex on December 19, 2012 at 12:48 PM
Well as one of the leaders of the Film Actors Guild, I imagine he’d do a great job dealing with North Korea.
LincolntheHun on December 19, 2012 at 12:48 PM
Seriously, can he be worse than Squaw Spreading Bull?
Ted Torgerson on December 19, 2012 at 12:49 PM
If it solely keeps him from reprising his role in any future Daredevil movie, I approve. Besides, Massachusetts should have two senators with high cheekbones.
cyclown on December 19, 2012 at 12:52 PM
Elizabeth Warren and Ben Affleck? MA will be the envy of the, uh, world with those talents representing them!
Punchenko on December 19, 2012 at 1:06 PM
Can he act like he knows what he is doing?
amazingmets on December 19, 2012 at 1:06 PM
His acting is so bad. It’s unforgivable.
2lbsTest on December 19, 2012 at 1:11 PM
Maybe he should try running for SAG president first, then move up to governor of California or something. Of course, that isn’t fair, because Dems like to take short-cuts to high office.
Christien on December 19, 2012 at 1:12 PM
He’s been on my Hollywood ban list for at least a decade. Senator Gigli? Get out!
Christien on December 19, 2012 at 1:16 PM
Ben Affleck’s political views never bothered me. He at least has a modicum of tolerance for others’ views. Which is why he won’t win. He’s not nearly as dismissive of the right as he should be for lefties.
Mitoch55 on December 19, 2012 at 1:18 PM
Served him coffee a few times when I worked at Starbucks in Santa Monica.
He tipped big and he didn’t freak out when we were out of sugar free vanilla syrup and had to substitute with sugar-free hazelnut.
Those two facts made him a better human being than half of the people that came to that Starbucks.
Don’t think it means he’ll be a good senator, but, MA can’t really do worse than Fauxcahontas, can they?
JadeNYU on December 19, 2012 at 1:19 PM
That would quickly change if he ever ran for office. This is a load of BS. 7 or 8 years ago, maybe I would’ve believed it. His acting career was in the toilet at that point. But with a new respectable writing and directing thing going which has also revitalized his formerly moribund acting career, he’d be nutz to leave all that to be one of 100 Senators in a chamber that can’t even get a budget passed for 4 years and counting.
Doughboy on December 19, 2012 at 1:22 PM
To run would he have to disclose that he and Matt Damon didn’t really write “Good Will Hunting”?

Old and Busted: Got to pay your dues, if you wanna sing the blues.
New Hotness: Start at the top.
Christien on December 19, 2012 at 1:28 PM
Sadly, that is true, but that’s not a very high standard, is it?
UltimateBob on December 19, 2012 at 1:32 PM
Not necessarily. Have we seen any of President Obama’s writings?
Mitoch55 on December 19, 2012 at 1:32 PM
Sure. Why not. One more unqualified elevator operator on the express elevator to hell isn’t going to make any significant difference.
MKybe if Kerry doesn’t make it, Or Chuck Haegel, we can get Barbra Streisand in as SoS or SoD while we are at it.
LegendHasIt on December 19, 2012 at 1:35 PM
I’m really excited to have Affleck and Ashley Judd join Stuart Smalley in the Senate
It’s only a matter of time before we have a Kardashian in the White House at this rate
Go watch “Idiocracy” again– it’s pretty much spot on. The idiots outbreed the rest of us, and we have pro wrestlers leading the country
thurman on December 19, 2012 at 1:40 PM
He would win in a landslide but why would he take the paycut? He’s making important movies that reach the world. No lowly junior senator can top that. Wait a second, wasn’t the Prez’s last job junior senator from IL?
CorporatePiggy on December 19, 2012 at 1:45 PM
Am I ready for Senator Ben Affleck? Are you ready to see me hurl and spew?

2028 race
Khloe Kardashian-Paris Hilton (R)
Taylor Swift-Justin Bieber (D)
Count on it.
