Report: Cory Booker leaning towards Senate run
Speculation that Mr. Booker would run against Gov. Chris Christie—a Republican whom he has supported on education policy but not on many social or economic issues—has increased in recent months. Democrats have said the nationally known mayor is one of their best shots against the formidable incumbent…
Although Mr. Booker has the ability to raise millions of dollars from donors across the country, some of those potential backers have expressed reservations about spending the kind of money that would be necessary for a race against Mr. Christie, one of the people said.
While Democrats see the benefit of a Booker gubernatorial candidacy for their own down-ticket races, education advocates expressed interest in a reform-minded politician running for the Senate, the person said.

Well, we’ve already got two unqualified senators, so why not?

From what I have seen (and that is limited), Booker seems like a decent and reasonable person. If this is true, it will add a degree of civility to what has become very uncivil. It is always good to have an honorable opponent because it can help keep both sides in line. While I never want a liberal to be in a decision making position, good debate and exchange of ideas is always welcome.

Scared to run against the Big Guy

He’s smart to let Gov. Christie do all the heavy lifting and accumulating the hate and discontent it will take to get the state back on track. In the Senate, he can be Santa Claus.

I generally had a positive opinion about him until he pulled the transparently phony SNAP challenge where he deliberately wasted his money in an effort to fail.
It was insulting that he pretends to be some hero by living on the same budget millions of other people live on.
He and the media acted like he was the political equivalent of Jane Goodall as he casually observed the poor in their native habitat and lived among them.

Of course he is. Why would he want a job like governor with actual responsibilities and stuff? Plus he gets to come out as the first openly gay US senator.

I don’t think he’s gay, but Senator-elect Tammy Baldwin has him beat in the “first openly gay US Senator” thing.

Being single does not equal being gay, especially nowadays.

I guess Chris Christie’s double-wide, titanium-reinforced, block-and-tackle lift seat is safe.

No, it doesn’t.

Too late: Tammy Baldwin, Wisconsin.

Beat me to it. I would name an “alleged” lesbian in the Senate, but he might just be a bachelor!

Booker could be president. He’s actually a leader, unlike Obama (or even Hillary). He will be formidable in 2016 or 2020.
BocaJuniors on December 18, 2012 at 1:21 PM
Wise choice! He doesn’t want to be eaten by Anaconda Christie. And yes, partisanship aside, he’d make a decent senator.

Contradictive statement in 9 words. Sheesh.

I would concur, especially with early indicators saying that Christie is favored for reelection. Democrats aiming for the Presidency tend to like the Senate, and that rank-and-file Democrats like Senators for their Presidential candidates. So it makes more sense for Booker to run for the Senate.
Yep. The Democrats think they have a winning formula in Obama. Get elected to the Senate, then run for President in the first term before too many hard and controversial votes can be mined by the Republicans to bar said person from the White House.
