After Newtown, four ways the NRA could change

1. Institutions can change. The NRA has become an implacable foe of gun control but that doesn’t mean it will always be. There could be glasnost in the NRA Kremlin, a recognition that the world has changed. It’s not a perfect analogy by any means but auto companies opposed seat belts and then accepted them as standard equipment. They fought air bags and then accepted them.

2. Hunters might triumph over the automatic crowd. At some point, it’s possible that hunters will feel less threatened by the spectre of gun control laws and be willing to assert themselves more. Of course, hunters are no more monolithic than “drivers” or “students” but they may not see themselves as having a vested interest in enormous magazines.

Epic Fail again. The State O’bamna claims to have been born in has some of the toughest gun laws in the US, including a total ban on automatic firearms and a ban on most semi-automatic pistols, and yet it’s now in the second decade of a meth epidemic. Ask Dog the Bounty Hunter, or better yet visit there yourself.

I lived in the 50th State in the 1960s, and finally went back for a visit 10 years ago. Meth was everywhere.

Some 37.4 percent of men jailed in Honolulu tested positive for methamphetamine in 2001, higher than any other major U.S. city, the federal government says.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office reported that on the island of Oahu, deaths where ice was a principal cause quadrupled in the past decade to 62 last year, surpassing deaths related to any other illegal drug or alcohol.

One reason for the epidemic? The Activist Democrat Justices on the Hawai’i Supreme Court refuse to give state law enforcement folks the same powers many of their counterparts on the Mainland use to stop Meth trafficking.

It would be better if the anti-gun crowd changed so that tyranny, in this changing world, does not expand further, but I’d much rather they change their stance on spending money we don’t have, first. That, right now, is the bigger problem.

Okay, I happen to have one at hand. The cop says with criminals preferably none, as criminals should not have procession of firearms. It’s illegal. As to free citizens, he says what matter is it to him. As many as they care to. It’s a free country protected by the second amendment.
