Report: Boehner offered to take debt ceiling off the table for one year
House Speaker John A. Boehner has offered to push any fight over the federal debt limit off for a year, a major concession that would deprive Republicans of leverage in the budget battle but is breathing new life into stalled talks over the year-end “fiscal cliff.”
The offer came Friday, according to people in both parties familiar with the talks, as part of the latest effort by Boehner (R-Ohio) to strike a deal with President Obama to replace more than $500 billion in painful deficit-reduction measures set to take effect in January…
Boehner’s offer also includes a proposal to raise tax rates for millionaires, generating $460 billion over the next decade — about half what Obama has demanded from the wealthy, according to official estimates…
But the tax offer was viewed as a breakthrough, the Democrat said.

I mean D.C, of course, with Congress in session

Somebody get this dangerous retard off the floor, already. He’s a destructive idiot who shouldn’t be doing anything, since he has no clue how to negotiate anything nor how to deal with an America-hating Dog-Eating slimeball like Barky and his lunatic junta.
The Weeping Boner MUST GO!! NOW!
ThePrimordialOrderedPair on December 16, 2012 at 7:46 PM
That’s great, Boehner, voluntarily give up the only leverage whatsoever that you have and prostrate yourself at the mercy of the Democrats. What a leader!
FloatingRock on December 16, 2012 at 7:46 PM
Has Obama made any concessions so far?
Wethal on December 16, 2012 at 7:47 PM
Would you?
If you were dealing with a guy like Boehner would you offer any concessions?
sharrukin on December 16, 2012 at 7:50 PM
*sigh* No, I suppose not..
Wethal on December 16, 2012 at 7:51 PM
He doesn’t need to, Boehner is more than happy to negotiate against himself.
FloatingRock on December 16, 2012 at 7:51 PM
Get this idiot out of there!
WisCon on December 16, 2012 at 7:52 PM
Barky has made more demands.
ThePrimordialOrderedPair on December 16, 2012 at 7:52 PM
So not only is Boehner willing to help Democrats increase tax rates but also to throw away the only leverage Republicans have, all to protect unnecessary, harmful corporate welfare payments for his corporate cronies.
Corporate welfare is the only thing Boehner will stand his ground and fight for.
FloatingRock on December 16, 2012 at 8:02 PM
Boehner lives in my brother’s neighborhood. I’ll be going over to his home on Christmas Day. I’m inclined to stop by Boehner’s home and leave him a backbone for a Christmas present.
BuckeyeSam on December 16, 2012 at 8:02 PM
If the ceiling is going to be reached in Feb or Mar 2013, how is the debate to raise it or not delayed until Dec 2013?
News2Use on December 16, 2012 at 8:03 PM
Boehner’s the whole GOP?
You may worry about him making a suicidal deal with 0dumba that enough of the rest of the House GOP members will support; I don’t. Shall we revisit this discussion at the end of the year to see who’s right about it?
Anti-Control on December 16, 2012 at 8:06 PM
Why is this guy in charge again? The establishment makes me sick.
celticdefender on December 16, 2012 at 8:07 PM
As long as your giving out blow jobs John why don’t you come over to my house.
Mark1971 on December 16, 2012 at 8:09 PM
I would like to be wrong. It would indeed be a happy new year if the House GOP told Obama to go over the cliff.
Given the House GOP ‘s track record, snd the rumors of McConnell’s caving, what te rest of the GOP thinks won’t won’t matter if enough of the congressional GOP caves.
Wethal on December 16, 2012 at 8:11 PM
I can only imagine Cantor’s Reaction to this. Boehner’s tan cost us 10% of the. Vote alone.
Bensonofben on December 16, 2012 at 8:23 PM
Agreed with the above. My guess is the only Republican in the house that votes for allowing the debt ceiling to go without qualifications would be Boehner himself. Let it go for a vote.
Bensonofben on December 16, 2012 at 8:26 PM
He will not know how to use it ….

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
what the heck is he thinking?
cmsinaz on December 16, 2012 at 8:35 PM
Boehner’s playing chess you see. Sure, he seems to think you win chess by sacrificing the king, but still, he’s playing chess, lol.

4 dimensional chess bla bla bla

He’s caving, the GOP will cave, why all the drama?
El_Terrible on December 16, 2012 at 8:40 PM
lol. Add McCain and Snowe to that team and you would have perfection. I swear this is a matrix bad dream.
arnold ziffel on December 16, 2012 at 9:14 PM
I cannot believe my eyes. If he does this I will make it my hobby to fight this bastard until he’s replaced.
Boehner sucks. Replace Boehner!
petefrt on December 16, 2012 at 9:23 PM
I also think its debatable if they are even negotiating as we imagine it. They are probably discussing what they can politically get away with surrendering.
sharrukin on December 16, 2012 at 9:24 PM
Typical establishment goon.
MoreLiberty on December 16, 2012 at 9:26 PM
What the? Boehner studied from “How to Give up the Ship” by Neville Chambelain.
arnold ziffel on December 16, 2012 at 9:27 PM
I would ask why anyone would have a serious discussion with the likes of a douchebag like Barackabama, but this is the GOP establishment here.
SouthernGent on December 16, 2012 at 9:30 PM
In all honesty, Romney would have f’ed us too. We just wouldn’t have admitted that it was “rape-rape”. Everything has been preordained by our statist Democrat and Republican overlords–who are in complete agreement that representative government is an outdated concept. They only differ in how they would prefer to spend our money.
All that’s left now is a largely pointless postmortem of the late United States.
ElectricPhase on December 16, 2012 at 9:46 PM
I don’t want to go over it, but if it comes down to that or selling out Conservative principles, it’s a no-brainer.
Here is something to keep in mind – 0dumba does not want to go over the cliff either, even if he believes the GOP would get the majority of the blame
rumors shrumors – I want to see a real proposal before I get emotional about what might happen. If Boehner and the GOP badly cave over this, I think you’d agree with me that it would end the GOP as we now know it.
I said this is another thread today, and I’ll mention it here: people like you and me stopped GWB from promoting Harriet Miers to the SC, and the GOP’s wrongheaded attempt to reform immigration in 2006 – we did it before, I believe we can do it again, and that is why I am optimistic now.
Anti-Control on December 16, 2012 at 10:04 PM
I don’t believe even Boehner himself would vote for that!
I have to believe that some of what we hear that he’s proposing is only because he is testing 0dumba’s limits, perhaps partially out of astonishment?
Anti-Control on December 16, 2012 at 10:15 PM
Look people, no matter how you slice it, the Dems hold the perfect hand. Taxes are going to go up one way or another. The question is, will it be just for the top or will it be for everyone.
Truth of the matter is, if it goes up for everyone things will get ugly really fast economy wise. I know I know, its fun sitting behind a computer typing “let it burn” and acting all tough. Problem is, it will also screw you over too big time. Its funny now until you also dont have a job or things cost 3x’s as much as it does now.
All we can hope for is that this get settled and things stay the same for pretty much everyone for now and hold out hope for 2016… but until then, taxes ARE going up for the rich, lets just hope it does not take the rest of us down along with them… I dont enjoy paying more taxes.

bgibbs1000 on December 16, 2012 at 11:31 PM
Truth is, things will get ugly either way.
If you’re going to be executed, would you prefer it fast or slow?
ElectricPhase on December 16, 2012 at 11:33 PM
The optimist in me wants him to have done this to highlight the fact the president isn’t negotiating at all.
The realist in me knows it’s just the beginning of the cave in.
