“Kerry gets a pass. He’s as good as confirmed.”
“Kerry gets a pass. He’s as good as confirmed,” said one top GOP strategist. CNN reported on Saturday afternoon that President Obama is planning to nominate Sen. Kerry.
Although sitting senators have long been given deference by their colleagues when nominated for a post requiring Senate approval, Kerry is a particularly divisive figure since his presidential campaign, and has become one of the leading faces of his party’s liberal wing.
But the Rice debacle has sated Republicans’ desire for a high profile post-election win against Obama. And it could clear the way for outgoing Sen. Scott Brown to return to the Senate next year.
“He’s a senator. No one liked Rice and she’s out. And Kerry opens seat for Brown,” the strategist said, noting that Sen John McCain, who is friends with Kerry, could ease his way. “McCain, as a former presidential candidate, will make sure behind scenes that we’re as respectful and deferential to former presidential candidate as we can be.”

I don’t suppose any GOP senator on Foreign Relations will have the nerve to ask Lyin’ John about his secret missions to Cambodia with the CIA and the “magic hat” the agents gave him as a souvenir?
Wethal on December 16, 2012 at 2:48 PM
Barry won… He gets his people. The Rs got a huge pound of flesh with Susan Rice and kudos to McCain for getting that win.. Having Ayotte in front on this one was genius. It seems like they will oppose Hagel and expose his Anti-Semitic views.

Next: Chuck Hagel sails through hearings for Defense.
Ladysmith CulchaVulcha on December 16, 2012 at 2:51 PM
After the dog and pony show the Obamunists created they now get the SOS they wanted all along.
The Republicans got played again. We don’t call them the Stupid Party for nothing.

Hagel’s track record of anti-Semitism may do him in. Also he’s been out of the Senate for a few years, so the clubbiness factor is less important. GOP senators will be seeing Kerry every day in the capitol at the same time that they’re holding hearings on him.
Wethal on December 16, 2012 at 3:03 PM
Sadly, yes.
I mean, these positions have to be filled, and they have to be filled by Obama. That precludes any candidates who haven’t disqualified and/or (mostly and) disgraced themselves in a way specific tot he office.
HitNRun on December 16, 2012 at 3:04 PM
And honestly, since we have a tax cheat in charge of the IRS, the bar for being allowed the position in question is really low.
DrAllecon on December 16, 2012 at 3:08 PM
Kerry is a War Hero, a Patriot, a brilliant intellect with a masterful knowledge of foreign policy, and an excellent choice for State.

Keep Kerry away from climate treaties. I detest this man.
Connie on December 16, 2012 at 3:14 PM
This kind of crap in Kerry’s past, which is omnipresent, is why I don’t see Kerry “sailing through”.
I remember the protests that bubbled up over the GOP’s push for immigration reform in 2006, and the resistance to GWB’s attempt to get Harriet Miers on the SC – if Kerry gets nominated and something similar doesn’t happen, I would be nearly in shock.

Guess it is too late for a ‘swift boat’ on kerry?

Wow, from VVAW traitor to the face of the nation’s foreign policy. Truly we are living in Bizarro-world now.
Dirt McGirt on December 16, 2012 at 3:19 PM
Yeah, well – of course. BUT, the “Rice debacle” was no “debacle” – it went exactly as obama planned – pathological liar, and known traitor, Susan Rice never had a chance. So, now, just as obama planned, John Kerry will be foisted on us, even though he is even a bigger liar and even more dangerous traitor – John Kerry will be confirmed as a knee-jerk rebound action, just as obama expected.

Don’t you think you’re giving her a lot of credit just based on her looks?

The next woman in the cabinet, 2nd to Obama.
Schadenfreude on December 16, 2012 at 3:31 PM
Think so? Then perhaps he’s a stalking horse for the real nominee the Administration has in mind, ala Ms. Rice to Mr. Kerry. Stay tuned.
Ladysmith CulchaVulcha on December 16, 2012 at 3:34 PM
Got me hahahahaha! I’ve met Ms. Washington, and she’s more damnably lovely than any photo can portray…but then, so is Sting. Meeeeow!
Ladysmith CulchaVulcha on December 16, 2012 at 3:39 PM
How is Kerry even eligible after his behavior with the enemy during Viet Nam? Will no one bring that up?
CrimsonFisted on December 16, 2012 at 3:40 PM
I think that Barry actually wanted Rice.. At least Rasputin aka Valerie Jarrett wanted her. So this was a pound of flesh. Snaps to the Amigos for this. Bitter JMac is actually an ally.

Jane Fonda didn’t dance at the end of a rope so why shouldn’t he be good to go?

I am willing to bet anyone that Kerry’s record is going to be getting scrutinized again if he gets nominated – for one thing, the Swift Boat vets are not going to silently sit on the sidelines, and there will be a circus!
Anti-Control on December 16, 2012 at 4:02 PM
I hope you are correct. I have a feeling hubby will be happy to put his two cents in as a Swift Boat vet!

As, believe it or not, the Junior Senator from MA. The Senior Senator from MA hasn’t even been sworn in yet.
Del Dolemonte on December 16, 2012 at 4:22 PM
Please tell your hubby, “Thanks!” from me!
I saw John O’Neill interviewed recently about the prospect of Kerry getting nominated – it’s not possible to me that he and others like him won’t step up and speak out if the opportunity presents itself.
Anti-Control on December 16, 2012 at 4:26 PM
That is one of the potential problems I see – GOP members who otherwise would not care to support Kerry, but covet his seat so much they’ll let him slide relatively easily.
I am not worried about that happening, just realizing it as a possibility.
Anti-Control on December 16, 2012 at 4:36 PM
Yes, maybe this is the way to get Scott Brown back to the senate.
galtani on December 16, 2012 at 4:38 PM
No confirmation hearing until “I don’t remember” Clinton tesifies about Benghazi!
gonnjos on December 16, 2012 at 4:51 PM
My prediction: 0dumba and Kerry agree, behind the scenes, that the potential loss of Kerry’s Senate seat plus the highly probable circus his nomination would cause would make such a nomination not worth the hassle.
Anti-Control on December 16, 2012 at 5:11 PM
Senate is a nothing more than a college fraternity, not a governing body. Kerry is a Frat Boy. His Frat brothers will do what frat boys do. Kerry will sail through.
And the USA will get a SoS even worse than Hillary and Albright put together.
All according to plan.
LegendHasIt on December 16, 2012 at 5:12 PM
Why would they oppose Hagel? Barry won….He gets his people, right? And for that matter, why oppose Susan Rice? Barry won….He gets his people. Funny how that rule only applies to Democrats, by the way. Seriously, is that you Lindsey?
And that’s why we need new strategists. There is no way in hell that Scott Brown ends up in that seat. He couldn’t even defeat Fauxcahontas as an incumbent. So now we get a nominee that apparently isn’t even going to be challenged despite being as big a leftist as Rice. Heck, he may even be worse that her. And he’s going to skate through. And another left wing nut will get his senate seat.
