Gun-control advocates to Obama: Now is the time
“For the first time in decades, Republicans are losing on social issues — they’re losing on same-sex marriage, they’re losing on contraception, and now they could lose on guns because their position is so intractable,” said Kessler. “Except for a vocal minority, people know and expect that something can be done.”
“It’s not that Democrats could do it and make some political gains,” added Mike Lux, founder of the consulting firm Progressive Strategies, and a former aide to President Bill Clinton. “It’s that they have to do it. It’s not only the base, it’s now the American people. They better damn well do it, or people will say what on earth is going on.”…
Republicans, under this theory, are caught in a trap between the powerful National Rifle Association’s uncompromising demands, crucial to primarily politics, and the more moderate view of the general electorate.
“Republicans aren’t going to go against the NRA,” said Lux. “They will absolutely block it, and it’s going to look very bad for them, but their politics are such that they are far more worried about a primary from the right than they are at looking unreasonable to the general public.”

What these statist buffoons refuse to recognize is that it’s the culture of state-sanctioned murder of millions, promiscuity, victim status of criminals, and complete abnegation of personal responsibility which they created that has led us to the morass in which we now live. Guns have been around for centuries, but not the culture the liberals have given us.

The culture is the problem here. Not the devices. I’m only 50 but the world I grew up in is nothing like the one we live in today. We have lost all sense of right and moral decency. No amount of laws or tweaks to the Constitution is going to change that.

Good job moderate and squishy Republicans: we stayed away from contraception,abortion, and gay marriage and still got tarred with it this election- and the next election guns will be the new social issue.. no it is because the GOPe neither believes nor wants to argue for the social issues, the tax issues, the same-sex marriage issues, contraception issues, the gun issue, the border issue, the obamacare issue. Because the GOPe are not conservatives and they are tired of having to lie to get elected so they would rather not have these issues on their plate come election time.
If we had a true conservative leader they would be out in front of the camera’s saying now is the time to do away with liberal laws that have been proven to not work and not keep us safe like the CLinton “gun free zones” which was implemented using federal government over reach of the commerce clause.
This event if we must have this debate which seems kind of ghoulish while the parents bury their children could be the final stake in the left’s effort to ban guns. IT has proven beyond a resonable doubt that liberal feel good gun control laws don’t work. Here you have one of the toughest gun control laws in the country in CT state gun control. You have an event occur on a “gun free zone” you have ONE armed person take out 8 unarmed adults and 20 children. Where idf even one of those 8 people being armed could have evened the odds of those children walking away from this alive. This event is a total rejection of all the lefts gun control over the 3 decades and show how utterly the left has failed at protecting us and our children.
this event shows gun control doesn’t work. The killer still got the guns because like all crimnals will do he stoled them. It shows that gun free zones don’t work because like all crimnals he ignored those big green signs proudly provcliaming the school as a gun free zone and it shows that the police can not protect you and can’t be everywhere all the time. It shows that by the time the police respond to a 911 call 20 children can be killed. The only way tp protect people is to allow adults to protect the,selves and their children from the evil that is in society.
So yes know is the time to utterly destry the left on gun control to finally bury the liberal worldview that gun free zones save lives. Now is when we has conservatives must stand on our principles and explain what happened and why. Now is when GOPe could destroy Obama and the dem party and make them a minority party for another 30 years.

Not bad, but the root problem here, as it always is, is mental illness. Guns are the splashy, obvious hook to get the attention of the Honey Boo Boos in the audience. But these shooters often are well known for being “troubled”, yet no one ever seems to do anything to help or hinder them. The mental health community, etc. always gets a pass. THAT’S the issue – “so, you don’t want to take preemptive action toward troubled individuals to head this off for fear of infringing their rights, but you ARE willing to take preemptive action against millions of people to deny them their right to own a gun, preemptively?”

These shooters are not going into police barracks to commit their crimes! They don’t go into gun shops or to motorcycle hang outs to commit their crimes! They don’t attack a bunch of hunters on the first day of hunting season! No! They go where the picking is easy! Defenseless women and children in gun free zones! And who do all of those victims call when the shooting starts?

As horrific as all of this is… their grief stops at my doorstep when those people propose I must lay down to the wolves and surrender too! That as horrific as their pain and agony is over the loss of their children.. I must surrender to a fix that would allow my children to be more easily slaughtered too! I can not or will not do that! It is insane!
I don’t want to see more people die at the hands of madmen! I want to see those murderers stopped the moment they set foot on someone else’s property with the intent to kill! The moment they walk into a room they are confronted with a people armed as much as they are ready to defend life and limb!
People have to be allowed to protect themselves! And they should not be penalized for it afterward!
Expand the Castle Doctrine laws to include schools, movie theaters and malls! Ban gun free zones at least in our schools! Allow teachers and other employees to carry concealed weapons and offer free or cheap training for any and all who want it!
People want to live in gun free communities! Fine! But when you reap the consequences don’t come to my state and tell me I’m the problem!

granted its an issue. But and its a big but. Mental health issues has always been the problem and until you eradicate all human life you will always have the crazies as part of society. Sure we can wall more of them off from society and I think we should but there will always be that one that slips under the rader. or that one power mad crazy seeking world domination. Everyone knows Stalin ad Hitler were nuts. How else do you kill 50 million people and sleep at night? Yet they managed to reach the pinnacle of power within their societies. So you will never get rid of the crazies in society as long as there is human society. what we can do is insure that society can protect themselves from the crazies as much as possible and that government is strong enough to protect the weaker among us.

If anything there will the usual backdoor method to all of this, for example microstamping ammunition or forcing technology on the manufacturers such as bio-enabled triggers or something.
Whatever the final result there is a 100% chance that a great deal of time and money will be utterly wasted by the feds.

That’s my point – it’s people. People are the problem, not the tools or weapons they use. Libs want to control people on a grand scale, one-size-fits-all, mass punishment “take the guns” stance. Conservatives (normally) want it on the individual level, as in “that guy right there is a problem, address HIM.”
It’s one thing when a shooter does this, and the people that know him are shocked and would never expect it. It’s another when they are questioned, and yawn and say “what took him so long, we expected it?” These are the people directly associated or related to him, and they took no action to help him get counseling or meds, or to commit him to prevent harm to self or others? And if they actually did take those steps and it didn’t work, how would banning guns help, especially in a situation like this where the proposed laws wouldn’t have made a damn bit of difference anyway? As a lawyer, I know how hard it can be to address, legally, mental health situations, but my point is – these situations DON’T spark any debate on mental health, as they should – they just focus on the guns (already heavily regulated) because it fits their political agenda. Getting “real” on mental illness doesn’t. So the root problem goes unaddressed, again and again.

The shooting stopped in this school when the shooter himself used his gun, put it to his head ( I suppose.. they said he committed suicide) and pulled the trigger. Just like in other shootings… the shooter kills himself with his own gun.
He wasn’t carrying a magic gun here, folks. He used a gun to end the shooting by killing himself.
If only a teacher or a few other employees had a gun just like his.. and pointed it at his head way before he did and pulled their triggers. The shooting could have stopped moments before or after it started!
Instead of calling 911 and screaming in the middle of it.. “Save us all” they could have instead called 911 after the event and said “We had a madman here. He’s dead. No one else is hurt.”
If anything this shooting proves any fool can kill with a gun. It is not hard. You point the gun and pull the trigger. The gun does the rest.
Ban gun free zones! Expand the Castle Doctrine laws to include schools, mall and theaters! Allow teachers to carry concealed and provide training if they want it!
