Dianne Feinstein: I’ll introduce an assault-weapons ban in the Senate
Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California told “Meet The Press” on Sunday that she plans on introducing a bill on the first day of the new Congress that would ban assault weapons. Weinstein, a Democrat, said she expects President Barack Obama to support the bill.
“I believe he will,” Feinstein said in response to whether the president would give his backing to the bill.
Though there are few details known at this time as to what Feinstein’s proposal would include, the bill could be based on the state law in California that controls semiautomatic weapons, barring the majority of weapons with detachable magazines and an additional extra feature like a folding stock. The Albany Times Union reports that Feinstein is expected to be joined in the effort by N.Y. Sen. Chuck Schumer.

And you’ll get rid of your personal security detail. How about your CCW permit if you have one apparently?
reddevil on December 16, 2012 at 11:48 AM
Good luck with that.

Because their is no gun violence in California.

Proven failed solutions for problems that don’t exist.
That’s why they call themselves “progressives”.

Introduce away, Senator.
It wont pass…

She’s going to keep fluking this chicken.
CorporatePiggy on December 16, 2012 at 11:58 AM
So will this keep bho/holder/team from sending more guns to mexico per F&F? Or guns that ‘might have been’ a reason for benghazi killings?
These people in dc are so stupid, the ‘bad guys’ will get guns they want where ever they can find them. This is just another knee jerk reaction to a horrible murderer killing so many people. And another in a list of trying to take our 2nd!

I will be introducing you Ms Feinstein as an idiot in the Senate.
hillsoftx on December 16, 2012 at 11:59 AM
And Republicans, particularly in the House, ought to get the jump by passing, at a minimum, a resolution charging the states with including firearm availability and training for their use in preventing atrocities, like the one at Sandy Hill, at schools. The resolution should include a provision noting that progress is expected within a year and inaction on the matter will result in loss of federal school funding after that time.
Dusty on December 16, 2012 at 12:01 PM
Will that ban include da’ gubmint and prohibit them from basically handing out guns in gun stings ala F&F? And as if laws are going to erase the black market–quite the opposite. You can’t legislate behavior.
stukinIL4now on December 16, 2012 at 12:03 PM
This is disgusting.
Political pandering of a bad situation. Can we at least let these families mourn and bury their dead before turning them into political boondoggles and spending them like so much trumped up capital and further increasing the media spotlight on them?
Skywise on December 16, 2012 at 12:03 PM
People have varying opinions about the NRA but they’ve always been right about one thing.
Anti-Second ammendment activists will never, ever, back down. They see a chink in the armor now and will go after it hard. Some kind of phony AWB could well pass and it could be even more watered down than the last one. But like OCare, it’ll be a bridgehead.
CorporatePiggy on December 16, 2012 at 12:05 PM
Once guns are banned in the United States the media will no longer report on shooting sprees. Just as with the myriad failures and scandals in the Obama administration the MSM will simply pretend they never happened.
Kataklysmic on December 16, 2012 at 12:05 PM
Dollars to donuts, this will not only pass, but several Republican senators will vote for it.
RedRedRice on December 16, 2012 at 12:06 PM
As if an active shooter, controlling his situation in a school full of unarmed people, couldn’t do similar damage with a shotgun.
What a joke.
blatantblue on December 16, 2012 at 12:09 PM
What’s interesting is that’s not their prize. You don’t think if they’d get the 2nd Amendment eliminated they wouldn’t remove one of the key previsions of the 1st amendment, and I’m not talking about a free press either.
reddevil on December 16, 2012 at 12:09 PM
Feinstein’s made it very, very public knowledge that she carries concealed. Made many public statements about it.
Yet she (and Bloomberg) are two of the loudest complainers about the Americans’ owning and using “guns”.
Lourdes on December 16, 2012 at 12:10 PM
I wouldn’t be so sure about that. Politically, that’s a difficult thing to vote against after the murders of 20 kids. Only the safest legislators would dare. You know, too, that the media will be fully supportive and only increase the pressure on them to act.
changer1701 on December 16, 2012 at 12:11 PM
Good girl. And why you are at it could you please let us know why in several cases 10-20 ARs/Aks purchased in one transaction were allowed to “walk” with no microchips and no stakeouts?
arnold ziffel on December 16, 2012 at 12:11 PM
Yes, you’re right, it IS a joke, this push by Feinstein (and Bloomberg and others).
People disturbed enough to do what just happened in Connecticut and happened in Denver and Tucson and Fort Hood, etc. aren’t curtailed by someone limiting which weapon they can lay their hands on. If it’s not one, it’ll be another.
Lourdes on December 16, 2012 at 12:13 PM
This is what America voted for, even though Americans have been buying guns at a record pace they voted for the rabidly anti-2nd amendment 0bama regime and democrat party.

Someone explain to me how an assault weapons ban would have changed anything in that massacre?
gwelf on December 16, 2012 at 12:21 PM
So she intends to paint Adam what’s-his-name as a victim? She refuses to acknowledge he his responsible for his actions?
Why is she excusing this monster for his actions?
She’s despicable.
ButterflyDragon on December 16, 2012 at 12:22 PM
That’s what I am afraid of.
sharrukin on December 16, 2012 at 12:22 PM
The killer used his mother’s hand guns.
Are we going to ban hand guns? The best equalizer women have in defending themselves?
gwelf on December 16, 2012 at 12:23 PM
So she’s introducing legislation to bring 20 kids back to life? Reverse time and not allow it to happen?
Exactly how is a vote going to be a vote against the murder of those kids?
If you don’t support her bill, you support people killing children? Is that the logic?
Will never fly.
ButterflyDragon on December 16, 2012 at 12:24 PM
This is what America voted for, even though Americans have been buying guns at a record pace they voted for the rabidly anti-2nd amendment 0bama regime and democrat party.

Well…
“Deadly assault weapons have no place in Massachusetts. These guns are not made for recreation or self-defense. They are instruments of destruction with the sole purpose of hunting down and killing people.” – Mitt Romney
sharrukin on December 16, 2012 at 12:24 PM
Whatever. It won’t even have the support of all Democrats.
ButterflyDragon on December 16, 2012 at 12:25 PM
Agreed: their medium term goal is the elimination of liberty which requires the elimination of the constitution. Their long term goal is the implementation of Utopian Totalitarianism.

Liberals are overreaching again. I can’t wait to see how red-state Dem Senators like Landrieu, Pryor, Hagan, Johnson, Rockefeller, etc vote on this.
Robert_Paulson on December 16, 2012 at 12:27 PM
Does this mean we can write abortion laws based on Gosnell?
gwelf on December 16, 2012 at 12:29 PM
Thank you for bringing up that point. I’ve always thought that gun rights were a secret feminist issue. Guns = women’s safety.
Robert_Paulson on December 16, 2012 at 12:30 PM
Oh No! Scary looking weapons! Run for your lives!
Galt2009 on December 16, 2012 at 12:32 PM
Another distraction. Obama has “Sandys” on his side. Hurricane Sandy helped in the last minutes before the election. Sandy Hook is helping him show his compassionate side…and distract from all the scandals from Green Energy money laundering to F&F to Benghazi etc.
He’s got the devil on his side.
Mimzey on December 16, 2012 at 12:34 PM
Yep.
They are so egotistical right now – they are going to push too far on something and they won’t like what happens next.
gophergirl on December 16, 2012 at 12:38 PM
55,000,000 babies have been killed since Roe v Wade.
Why no abortion ban?
darwin on December 16, 2012 at 12:39 PM
She was likely killed by her guns. Apparently, her failure to secure her weapons in a house she share with a mentally ill adult was a catalyst for the subsequent deaths of the school children.
dedalus on December 16, 2012 at 12:39 PM
Yup. Which means you couldn’t have legislated a way out of this.
If we’re going to ban things because of someone you know or live with might do then we won’t have any freedoms.
gwelf on December 16, 2012 at 12:43 PM
We need more scalpel control laws. I hope Dianne Feinstein will be the first to introduce a bill that addresses this.
reddevil on December 16, 2012 at 12:45 PM
This has always been the weakness of the Second Amendment. While an outright seizure would cause a backlash leading to the death of politicians and a reorganization of Government (noticed how I avoided banned terms on HotAir?) the incremental approach has always held a danger. Liberals seek to disarm because it allows them to implement policies that even shame will not repeal. They think that if they move slowly enough, no one will fire on them. Already they have done things for which our forefathers would have displaced them in power (see, I did it again!). For example, tell me what Washington and Jefferson would have said about bringing in boatloads of Muslim Somalis and dumping them in communities where they rape and pillage? What would our forefathers said about leaving our Southern border porous so that “Free White men” were being not only displaced in their own Country, but losing jobs to these Aliens as well with the help of the Federal Government? These would have been resisted vigorously through arguments backed by lead, if implemented all at once, but by taking the slow approach, no one wants to be the first to pull the trigger and the damage is far more extensive than if stopped at once.
Imagine a full on succession movement (that’s not hard) along with a strong insurgency like the IRA operating within the USA caused by seizing peoples 401K’s or putting in place internal security checkpoints or whatever. Then you will see the Government go full retard on guns. This is just a trail balloon by the usual suspects.
If a rank amateur like this kid can cause such hysteria, imagine what a full blown Beslan school horror would bring.
Bulletchaser on December 16, 2012 at 12:51 PM
How about a Diane Feinstein ban to prevent more dangerous idiocy in the Senate??
landlines on December 16, 2012 at 12:52 PM
What about giving the neighbors or the dad the ability to have the weapons removed from the house if there is a child residing there who is diagnosed with severe mental problems?
It appears that the parents of the toddlers were unfairly subject to the poor judgement of Nancy Lanza.
dedalus on December 16, 2012 at 12:54 PM
Also, this was a highly unusual situation which means it’s a horrible basis for making law. And any new laws that do come of this wouldn’t have stopped the massacre.
This is just an excuse for liberals to politicize a massacre to push laws they’ve always wanted.
gwelf on December 16, 2012 at 12:55 PM
And the nasty old vulture shows up to perch on the corpses right on cue.
