Dianne Feinstein: I’ll introduce an assault-weapons ban in the Senate
Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California told “Meet The Press” on Sunday that she plans on introducing a bill on the first day of the new Congress that would ban assault weapons. Weinstein, a Democrat, said she expects President Barack Obama to support the bill.
“I believe he will,” Feinstein said in response to whether the president would give his backing to the bill.
Though there are few details known at this time as to what Feinstein’s proposal would include, the bill could be based on the state law in California that controls semiautomatic weapons, barring the majority of weapons with detachable magazines and an additional extra feature like a folding stock. The Albany Times Union reports that Feinstein is expected to be joined in the effort by N.Y. Sen. Chuck Schumer.

This makes no sense. Your neighbors or relatives get to curtail your freedoms when you hasn’t committed a crime?
Her son also wasn’t a criminal until he started killing people. On what basis and who would get to arbitrate our freedoms in your scenario?
I haven’t followed this really closely but it does appear the mother may have exercises poor judgement but this isn’t grounds for new legislation. If a drunk ran a school bus off of the road would you suggest banning alcohol?

Since gun control advocates seem to think that automatic weapons (as opposed to semi-automatic weapons) are legal and freely available, Republicans should offer a bill outlawing them.

This is not about safety, this is about Contempt.
To the liberal mind, there is no difference between Lanza and anyone else.
Lanza was not a Disturbed Person who acted out due to his past and the failure of a Medical System to recognize that he wasn’t quite normal.
To the Liberal Mind, Lanza was a Normal Person with Alternate Viewpoints who was placed in the Presence of a Catalyst. Had it not been for that Catalyst, all would be fine with the world.
The Catalyst was a GUN.
In the mind of DiFi and Chucky Schumer, we are all Adam Lanza, or Dylan Kleibold, or even Charles Whitman.

So we’ll just keep making laws until we can stop evil people from doing evil things. Meanwhile the vast majority of citizens who are decent and law abiding lose their right and power to protect themselves.
The uncomfortable truth for liberals is that if someone in that school were armed the killer would have killed far fewer.

Having armed personnel is one avenue. The personnel would need to be qualified and compensated. If the guns were in the hands of teachers who weren’t competent, or who weren’t capable of securing their weapons, it could create additional incidents.

Yep. I always said that even though I don’t share their views I would defend their right to their views. On this issue I won’t. If a criminal breaks into my libby neighbors house I’ll call the police. That’s all, not going to even try to help by myself.
