Connecticut shootings: Isolated incident or cultural problem?
Among those who said that Aurora represented a broader societal problem, roughly six in ten believed the priority should be controlling gun ownership rather than protecting gun rights. Among those who viewed it as an isolated incident, just more than 40 percent prioritized controlling the ownership of firearms.
The simple truth, at least according to this poll data, is that the increasing tendency in the wake of shootings like the one in Connecticut is to chalk it up to a troubled person and move on. While the death of so many children could certainly change this equation, the data available suggests that pushing for changes in gun laws following Newtown might not be met with the sort of reception you might think.

In the 60′s and 70′s, we quit locking up the loonies, thanks to PC. So, instead, these people are left free to wander the streets and live in a world in which they are incapable of exiting.
A lot of them become “homeless” and a small minority become mass shooters.

Eh, before guns came along the world was a peaceful, non violent place. Seems like we could get back to that world pretty easily.

How about this little nugget: One of the Newtown, CT churches holding a vigil today had to deal with a called-in threat, someone said they were going to kill everyone in the church.
Crazy is out there and that call is ironclad proof that you can’t wish or legislate it away.

Rather than guns, why don’t we try to control insanity instead, which would naturally be inclusive of a lot of Liberals.

How come gun-free zones are the places of the worst gun violence?
John the Libertarian on December 16, 2012 at 6:17 PM
I think it is a cultural problem that we deliberately leave our most vulnerable citizens completely undefended.
Count to 10 on December 16, 2012 at 6:22 PM
There is nothing conservative about advocating for locking up the supposedly “mentally ill” based on psychiatric quackery. Those who would trade liberty for security deserve neither. Newtown and Aurora are a small price to pay for freedom.

Look at the facts – guns have been around for well nigh 500 years, repeating firearms at least 160, select-fire full auto weaponry was easily available up until the 1930’s and yet these mass shootings are only recent phenomena.
Conversely, what as the Left been doing to our culture for the past 20 years?
No wonder they want deprive people of the right of self-defense instead of addressing a problem THEY CREATED!!

When it comes to gun homicides and cultural problems I can make it very simple for the MSM.
Pucker up NBC.
Most shootings involving casualties are gang-related.
Most ‘victims’ are non-white.
For reference please see: LA, Chicago, NYC, Houston, NOLA, Baltimore, Oakland, and other blue enclaves.
Yes, we certainly have a cultural problem in these areas.
And it is fun to focus on some mental whitey in NJ who gunned down a bunch of kids instead of focussing on the 80% of gun crimes committed as part of the gang wars.

In response to Sandy Hook, an acquaintance of mine, born in Ashkelon Israel, raised in NY, who goes back to Israel every year, immediately signed a new petition to have Obama (who she loves)do something about gun control. She thought it was absurd to have teachers armed in order to defend their students. Not ten minutes later I was at American Digest looking at a photo of some Israeli school children in line with a woman behind them, a rifle slung over her back.

An interesting note (paraphrased) from Psychologist Robbie Ludwig: Be careful not to watch too much coverage if you have little ones around. Kids seeing repeated images of children in terror/danger may not be able to discern that what they are watching is repeated on a continuous loop. They may take the horror as happening over and over again in real time. As the Canadians say, ‘Better to be safe than sore-y, eh?’

Are you saying that people, who have demonstrated a desire to do exactly what James Holmes did in Aurora, for example, have a right to live freely amongst us? He had already telegraphed via a journal and his sessions with a psychiatrist that he was going to do exactly what he did.
There was nothing “supposedly” about the mental health of Loughner, Holmes, Cho, etc. Their schizophrenia or schizophrenic tendencies were WELL KNOWN to their families, schools, and communities beforehand. That’s why, after almost all of these rampage killings, we hear from the people that knew them, “I feel bad for the victims, but I’m not surprised. The dude was a mental case. Always has been.”

Yeah, that whole “individual responsibility” thing is totally not a conservative ideal.
I agree, even if it means sometimes there will be 5 year old patriots brought into the fray not by their choosing.

According to one poster, we do not, apparently, have the right to have those that actually threaten harm removed from society. Their right to live amongst us is greater than our right to demand, at least, a certain floor of acceptable behaviour and decorum in society.
In the wake of the Holocaust, millions of people wondered “How could Hitler have done what he did? We had no idea that he hated Jews and others so much.” Maybe, if they had bothered to actually read Mein Kampf and take his words seriously, people would have known what to expect or, in the very least, not been so shocked in hindsight.
As I always tell people, if someone says that he is going to kill you, believe him…until proven otherwise. The families and friends of a lot of abused spouses, for example, learned the hard way that when the abusers said that they would kill their loved ones, they meant it.

Hey now, that sounds a lot like the AGW freaks!
Our society has such a collective problem saying “No”, it’s bringing the whole thing down.
I’m not a fatalist about the prospects for change, but there is no denying that those of us with common sense face an uphill battle on this front.

This is a glimpse into the soul of the leftist ‘experimenters’ who are leading our country into oblivion
http://www.fed-soc.org/publications/detail/madness-deinstitutionalization-murder
leftists like to think they are ‘scientific’…disgusting prattle from low information people…the crime is the horrors that have been inflicted on families, the victims and, yes, the mentally ill themselves
And indictment of an ideology gone horribly wrong…but the left clings to their dystopian religious fervently
and i’m sure that leftists already have their bill written, just waiting, patiently, to impose it

Typical of the left to pretend…. Oh heck, LIE about a subject as though no regulation exists in an area.
They like to imply that there are no restriction s or infringements on the 2nd amendment as of now an that all their talking about is just the tinniest little regulation – when in fact it’s just another diminishment of that right.

Let me see….if I am a criminal do I want to go to
A) A place with a lot of guns like a target range, police station, or
a gun show.
B) A gun free zone whether it be a business or a school.
C) A place where I don’t know whether there is a gun or not.
Seems B is the best answer to me. This is not rocket science.
