How the gunman made it inside
Lt. J. Paul Vance, a spokesman for the Connecticut State Police, described “a very horrific and difficult scene” at the school, which had 700 students in kindergarten through fourth grade. It had a security protocol that called for doors to be locked during the day and visitors to be checked on a video monitor inside.
“You had to buzz in and out and the whole nine yards,” said a former chairwoman of the Newtown board of education, Lillian Bittman. “When you buzz, you come up on our screen.”
The lock system did not go into effect until 9:30 each morning, according to a letter to parents from the principal, Dawn Hochsprung, that was posted on several news Web sites. The letter was apparently written earlier in the school year.
It was Ms. Hochsprung, who recognized Mr. Lanza because his mother worked at the school, who let him in on Friday. Sometime later, she heard shots and went to see what was going on.

I’m confused. I thought the most recent account is that Lanza shot out a window near the front door to gain entry?
Robert_Paulson on December 15, 2012 at 12:39 PM
Horrific. On a side note, the federal government continues to murder children – collateral damage – over seas.
MoreLiberty on December 15, 2012 at 12:39 PM
Well did she work at the school, or didn’t she?

Okay, just how many stories are we going to get. This is like the Obama administration, put so much crap out there so the truth will never be known.
Cindy Munford on December 15, 2012 at 12:43 PM
He broke out a window to get in, the principal recognized him because of his mother, but others from the school board etc are saying they never heard of her.
Worst reporting ever.

Suicide by cop?
Cindy Munford on December 15, 2012 at 12:44 PM
I haven’t a clue, but the way the press is giving out so many different ways things happened yesterday, they probably will give that a try?
BTW Cindy, on your post about bho administration, it seems hill won’t be testifying about benghazi, she fainted and has a concussion!

The brutality of the killing still shocks me. He shot those kids at point blank range.
tommy71 on December 15, 2012 at 12:50 PM
This is the first article I’ve seen that says he had the rifle with him. All the others said the police found it in the back seat of his car.

Remeinds me of the OBL killing – a new version every few minutes, yet we likely will never hear the actual true account.

put out as many lies as possible .. change things as often as
possible and muddy the waters so badly .. no one knows what is
going on…

The media has really gone downhill in recent years. Once they gave up even the pretense of political impartiality, I guess they decided accuracy was no longer a big issue.
sharrukin on December 15, 2012 at 1:01 PM
This article only states that the “found a Bushmaster” and conveniently leave out the fact that where it was “found” was in the back seat of the car and hence not used in the attack.
Stu Gotts on December 15, 2012 at 1:02 PM
The brutality of it has nothing to do with how far he was from his victims.
He was in the same room with them and shot them at close range, not point blank range. Point blank means you don’t have to adjust your sight picture from zero to make a hit and can be 50 yards or more with a 9mm pistol.
At any range the scumbag was a monster.

Motive?
This fourth staff member may be able to shed some light.
Kataklysmic on December 15, 2012 at 1:03 PM
Just because you guys aren’t confused enough yet, even more new “facts” have emerged:
– Lanza brought 4 handguns into the school
– The rifle was found in the car he drove to the school
– Lanza tried to purchase a new rifle recently, but was denied due to background check
– Lanza was in an “altercation” at the school on Thursday, December 13th.
Info here (NBC News video)
Robert_Paulson on December 15, 2012 at 1:04 PM
This is also the only article I’ve seen that refers to the rifle as anything other than simply a .223. That has made me think it probably wasn’t an AR platform since the manufacturers of the two pistols were identified immediately.

Dang, I hope she is alright. We’ve waited this long, unless there are concerns about memory loss, we can wait a bit longer.
Cindy Munford on December 15, 2012 at 1:07 PM
He planned all this in less than a day? I’m starting to get really annoyed with the media.
Cindy Munford on December 15, 2012 at 1:10 PM
The odd part is that he apparantly was denied purchase of a weapon the day before the altercation. Was he there to case the school and these four people asked him WTH he was doing there?
I agree. It’s almost as if the media wants to report falsehoods and/or things that make no sense.
They never ask the right questions and on the rare occasion they do, they never ask the right follow up questions.
Kataklysmic on December 15, 2012 at 1:17 PM
I’ve read that the school staff didn’t know her and that he forced himself in.
The media sucks.
tommer74 on December 15, 2012 at 1:25 PM
Quit calling this b!tch a “gunman”. He was a pu$$y with guns.
guido911 on December 15, 2012 at 1:26 PM
I have always called him a murderer, that is just what he was!

wow that’s awful, i wonder if that guy was inspired by adam lanza. who knows. but i’m glad no one was killed. and if that guy hadn’t been SHOT to death, he would have killed more people…
oh… maybe he brought four but only used two at a time?
i wonder why’d he bring a rifle if he didn’t use it…
good. i support background checks. no they didn’t stop the guy in this instance but at least they had the sense not to directly give him a gun. at least there’s that much, someone had the common sense to not give him a gun.
he was in the school the previous day? now this is starting to make sense, when you read this:
maybe that person didn’t come to school because they were afraid for their safety. maybe they knew he was coming for them.
Sachiko on December 15, 2012 at 1:50 PM
The reporting on this borders on media malpractice. We were told his girlfriend and a friend were missing (of course we were also told his father was dead). Anything new on this rumor ? Hard to believe he had a girlfriend. Maybe he fantasized about girlfriend, someone who worked at the school?
Buy Danish on December 15, 2012 at 2:39 PM
And may I say BO is not helping matters when he releases a politically motivated video statement which talks about street corners in Chicago as if violent gang-banger punk thugs can be reasonably compared to paranoid/delusional/psychotics like Loughner, Cho, Holmes, Lanza.
