Report: Hospital criticism may have triggered suicide of nurse in royal phone prank
The Daily Mail claims to have a source connected to the nurse’s family, who says in one of the suicide notes the woman, Jacintha Saldanha, is critical of the hospital for the treatment she received. The story does not flesh out whether the treatment is connected to the hoax, but it appears to be the case, given one of the other suicide notes which reportedly describes how she tried to cope with the fallout due to the prank call.

The pranksters, while free to prank, can have her on their souls.
The radio station can pay for the lawsuit her family will likely file.

How can they sue her when she had no proof that it was actually who they said they were?
Notorious GOP on December 14, 2012 at 2:30 PM
they don’t sue in Britain like we do here.

Are we so sure this was a suicide? See Princess Di for further details.

This is so much like the case of the gay college student who killed himself after his roommate webcast his tryst. The actual prank or crime is small, but the pranksters are judged not by the severity of their infraction but by their victim’s reaction to it. If neither of those people had killed themselves no one would care about the prank and no one would have been fired or prosecuted. Lesson for victims: If you want to get even with your tormentors, kill yourself.

What we should do is outlaw practical jokes. Then things like this will never happen. Of course we all know this is the first time a radio show ever did something like this, so they should be stopped from doing it again. Any idiot can see that you can cause a suicide by calling a hospital with a bad accent and pretending to be the Queen of England.

HA is now linking to TMZ AND the Daily Mail in one story?
Cool. Look forward to regular links like this: next up, Us magazine, National Enquirer, Penthouse, Kos, and Socialist Worker.

Excellent post.
I disagree with your assessment of the gay college student case, as the bad-intentioned person who recorded him had humiliation on his mind – comparing the 2 incidents as you did serves to diminishes what happened there. Otherwise, I agree with the point you are trying to make.

We need “loser pays” here throughout the US, too!

Jeez, what numbskulls. Pranks and practical jokes have to be done with those you know on a personal level. Not with strangers, cos you can’t predict the consequences. Simple rule of thumb.
