Scott Walker: I won’t pursue right-to-work legislation
Walker was asked Wednesday about whether he would push to make Wisconsin a right-to-work state on the heels after his proposal in 2011 that effectively ended collective bargaining for most public workers.
Walker said that introducing a right-to-work bill could lead to massive protests like what happened last year over the collective bargaining bill. He said those protests and the recall elections that followed created uncertainty for job creators.

How did protests and recall elections create “uncertainty”?
Stupid.

I believe the Gov Snyder stated something similar to this.

Sorry, confused him with Scott Brown…never mind.
This Walker has had enough fights for a time.
Schadenfreude on December 13, 2012 at 4:45 PM
Go for it!
Otherwise the thugs win.
UltimateBob on December 13, 2012 at 4:47 PM
Give —– it —– time.
He may not have to or need to , personally, yet. Let the groundswell get things underway… and then….
viking01 on December 13, 2012 at 4:47 PM
I believe he promised not to originally when he first began his reforms.
rob verdi on December 13, 2012 at 4:49 PM
I believe that this comes down to votes. Snyder had ‘em in Michigan, and Walker doesn’t have them anymore in the legislature. A smart campaign by the WI GOP in 2014 could change things enough to make a difference in Walker’s policy agenda.
Robert_Paulson on December 13, 2012 at 4:53 PM
Gotta know when to hold ‘em and know when to fold ‘em.
a capella on December 13, 2012 at 4:55 PM
He’s got to consolidate his gains. Show the people his policies are working. He’s going for a tax cut which should help but he’s really needs to focus on 250K jobs promise.
In time, it will happen.

Walker’s wimpy wesponse,
only empowered the Unions!
A more Conservative strategist,
would have said,
“we are considering all options that
are best for Wisconsin Taxpayers”!
And left it there…
“Let’s Roll”
On Watch on December 13, 2012 at 4:57 PM
Correct. He’s always said he’s had no beef with private sector unions. They’ve, for the most part, have acknowledged economic realties and slowly have made concessions.
Public Unions? Not so much. It was bankrupting the State.
WisRich on December 13, 2012 at 4:59 PM
I have no problem with Walker’s position. He knows the views of his state.
It’s wrong to push through an agenda you didn’t campaign on.
Perhaps in his second term.
commodore on December 13, 2012 at 5:01 PM
It is just me, but every state governor or citizens in the states thinking about getting the union thugs out, should do all they can and soon to do so? The union thugs have got to be stopped, period! And I don’t give one flying flit what bho/trumka/all unions says the states can’t!

Senate will only be 18-15 so this likely means there are a couple of squishes that wouldn’t let the vote pass. After all he’s been through, I don’t believe for two seconds that he’s afraid of a fight. There’s nothing more the unions could do.

Terrorist veto!
astonerii on December 13, 2012 at 5:12 PM
His 2011 battle probably added 20 years to his age. Another fight with the union thugs this soon would probably kill him. I don’t blame him for letting it sit a while.

And left-wing crazies accuse us of being unreasonable.
22044 on December 13, 2012 at 5:29 PM
I understand Scott Walker’s point..But will the “true cons”??!!??..
Dire Straits on December 13, 2012 at 5:34 PM
Oh good, we’re already back to, “This isn’t the hill to die on”! It’s been such a winning position that we should keep using it until there are no conservatives left.
Idiots.
Lifeisdeath on December 13, 2012 at 5:34 PM
I don’t think it would be the stress of the fight that would kill him…it would literally be union thugs attempting to harm or kill him or his family.
HumpBot Salvation on December 13, 2012 at 5:35 PM
I see his point, but you know that if the situation were reversed the democratics would be saying “time to close in for the kill”, just as little Bammie is doing with the Republican Party in DC.
slickwillie2001 on December 13, 2012 at 5:36 PM
Then good on him. He’s done groundbreaking work already and fought the good fight. Time for someone else to take a bit of the work.
kim roy on December 13, 2012 at 5:39 PM
When asked if he would sign a bill that came to his desk?
His answer: “I’m not going to speculate on hypotheticals”
There’s a little wiggle room.
WisRich on December 13, 2012 at 5:43 PM
As a successful Republican governor of a blue state who turned his state’s finances around by taking on Labor in a state political culture dominated by California-esque liberals, Scott Walker has earned the right to decide what fights to pick and when.
HitNRun on December 13, 2012 at 5:43 PM
I give him a pass for the rest of this term, in thanks for his effectively ending collective bargaining for most public workers.
But maybe next term?
petefrt on December 13, 2012 at 5:49 PM
“Scott Walker has earned the right to decide what fights to pick and when.”
Yeah, the perfect time to fight is after they recall more people and we don’t have the numbers anymore. Great strategy. Let’s play chicken with our principles. Hard fights are hard, lets leave that to the Democrats.
Lifeisdeath on December 13, 2012 at 5:52 PM
“But maybe next term?”
Yeah, why not put off something today that can be done later. It’s the Republican way. I’m sure it’s not possible Democrats could take control. That’s a big hill, and all. It looks dangerous.
Lifeisdeath on December 13, 2012 at 5:57 PM
Hahahahahahahahahahaha. That was funny. Provided a much-needed laugh. Thanks.
Wait… what? You were serious?
Oh.
Yeah, not so much.
Shump on December 13, 2012 at 5:59 PM
He’s not cut out for another term and certainly not higher office. That doesn’t make him a bad guy. That sort of thing would break a lot of people. Nice family guys get into Republican politics and then have to worry about their families if they are gonna confront the nastiest problems.
Buddahpundit on December 13, 2012 at 6:17 PM
Why can’t someone else do it? Are there no other republicans or conservatives who can do this? The man has earned a reprieve and why must he kill himself on hills that it seems no one else is willing to fight on (if no one else can be bothered to take up the slack?).
It’s so very easy to sit behind a keyboard and complain about people like Walker, but have you had people outside your home scaring your family, death threats, etc, and having 24/7 TV coverage of what a DB you are? Probably not.
This isn’t directed at you, but at all the people who aren’t happy with what people like Walker have given already. It’s now time for other people to get involved and start taking up some of the workload.
kim roy on December 13, 2012 at 7:02 PM
You can’t announce these things beforehand. You have to wait until you get the majorities and then go for it.
WisCon on December 13, 2012 at 7:05 PM
Ayeah, as much as I’d like conservative action to happen yesterday if not sooner, the cold truth is if he doesn’t have the majority to run this through it’s probably going to be a fiasco.
MelonCollie on December 13, 2012 at 8:56 PM
I say go for the throat too. I say we should always go in for the kill, when that’s a winnable strategy. But maybe his second term is a better time to do it. If he tries it now, he’ll likely lose the fight, and maybe his second term too.
petefrt on December 13, 2012 at 9:26 PM
they are doing it, time to ride the wave. what just happened in michigan?
they signed up for it. they have protection. and if you give in and dont do something you should because people are threatening you, how are you ever going to do ANYTHING? they know it works, thats why they do it.
Lifeisdeath on December 13, 2012 at 11:18 PM
“After Tuesday’s election, Republicans emerged with a preliminary 17-15 majority in the Senate and a comfortable majority in the House of Representatives or Assembly.
A special state Senate election to be held in December in a Republican stronghold is expected to add to the party’s power in the 33-member chamber.”
Lifeisdeath on December 13, 2012 at 11:22 PM
and if he gets recalled again in his second term? wooops, guess we should have done that earlier…
