Poll: SC voters’ top choice for Senate is…
There is a path back to popularity for Haley though: appointing Stephen Colbert to replace Jim DeMint in the Senate. Colbert tops the wish list of who South Carolina voters would like to see join that body at 20%, followed by Tim Scott at 15%, Trey Gowdy at 14%, Jenny Sanford at 11%, Henry McMaster and Mark Sanford at 8%, Jeff Duncan and Joe Wilson at 5%, and Mick Mulvaney at 4%.
It’s Democrats and independents- those voters Haley most needs to improve her standing with- who are pining for a Colbert appointment. Among Democrats 32% say they’d like Colbert to be picked with Jenny Sanford at 19% and no one else in double digits. With crucial independent voters Colbert has a 15 point lead for the appointment, getting 28% to 13% for Tim Scott, 12% for Jenny Sanford, and 10% for Trey Gowdy with no one else in double digits.

God save us all.
Does anyone remember what a mockery this man made of the Congressional hearing that he was “invited” to attend?
A blemish and a stain on our history that was.

Now the media is too stupid to see a joke when presented to them?
Cindy Munford on December 10, 2012 at 1:41 PM
Of course they do. Why? Because the Democrats have a very shallow pool of candidates, so of course they all decided to ironically choose Colbert. The Republicans, who, lets face it, are the only ones who matter statewide in SC, are the ones with the deep bench of candidates to choose from so of course they are split between many different candidates.

Gov. Haley has already disqualified Stephen Colbert from the Senate spot, since when she was on his show he failed to name South Carolina’s State Drink

Ladysmith CulchaVulcha on December 10, 2012 at 1:41 PM
Where’s Alvin Greene on that list?
The Count on December 10, 2012 at 1:43 PM
I’d take Alvin Greene over Colbert.
UltimateBob on December 10, 2012 at 1:43 PM
For the love of pete, haley think about the whole US not just you or your state? Choose wisely, please! We need a conservative named for DeMint’s seat!

It’s a tie!
UltimateBob on December 10, 2012 at 1:44 PM
Tim Scott or Gowdy!
Schadenfreude on December 10, 2012 at 1:44 PM
I’m disappointed. I thought for sure they wanted Alvin Greene. Colbert is almost as ridiculous though.
HotAirian on December 10, 2012 at 1:44 PM
Haley will likely appoint a RINO azz.
Schadenfreude on December 10, 2012 at 1:44 PM
Might as well have another buffoon join the Senate…he’d be in good company.
I love how they feel Haley’s way back to popularity is by selecting someone the libs want. But of course.
changer1701 on December 10, 2012 at 1:46 PM
No, it’s a real poll.
UltimateBob on December 10, 2012 at 1:46 PM
I will say it again in case I am right: Ambassador Wilkins. Although McMaster is a definite possibility.
Hat Trick on December 10, 2012 at 1:47 PM
Their state drink is boring and unmemorable, like two dozen other states. Only Alabama got state drink right.
lester on December 10, 2012 at 1:49 PM
Don’t sweat it.
Haley shut the Colbert BS down yesterday.
This is a push poll to make the idea seem viable so when she doesn’t do it, they can drive the “going against the will of the people” narrative.
Because they don’t want people to pay attention to Tim Scott.
That’s the real problem with DeMint’s split. He should have made the leave/replacement one fluid conference.
budfox on December 10, 2012 at 1:52 PM
Why is her approval rating underwater?
Mark1971 on December 10, 2012 at 1:52 PM
Okay, than only idiots chose to participate.
Cindy Munford on December 10, 2012 at 1:52 PM
When future generations inevitably ask who was responsible for our great nation’s ruination, seeking to understand this poll result would probably be a fruitful path of inquiry.
steebo77 on December 10, 2012 at 1:53 PM
I don’t know for certain but I think there are a lot of old time Republican guys there that just can’t get over her and seem to try to undermine her. Southern Gent could probably fill us in.
Cindy Munford on December 10, 2012 at 1:54 PM
Tim Scott. Then SC will have two Senators who can say, like Greta Garbo: “I shall die a bachelor!”
Ladysmith CulchaVulcha on December 10, 2012 at 1:55 PM
Alternate headline: “Not Tim Scott!!”
The folks at PPP do not want a black Republican Senator from the South on MSNBC debating smaller government. Look at this sentence:
Well duh. Democrats do not want to see Tim Scott, a Senator someone they have to tear dopwn and harm themselves in the process. And no black Democrat wants to stand face to face with another black person and debate the Democrats failed policies. I would have nominated Tim Scott already. Haley needs Democrats and independents like she needs a hole in the head.
Theworldisnotenough on December 10, 2012 at 2:05 PM
In that sense, it’s not much different than most other polls.
UltimateBob on December 10, 2012 at 2:06 PM
You’re BOTH right! It’s a PPP poll. Their polling is always a joke.
Glenn Jericho on December 10, 2012 at 2:07 PM
Trey Gowdy and Joe Wilson are both good picks. I would go with Joe Wilson just to tick off the left and prompt Chris Matthews to denounce White Men for a month.

ToddPA on December 10, 2012 at 2:29 PM
Haley should just appoint Scott and be done with it. It’s the right move and she needs to stop letting Colbert and his band of fools screw around with this media cycle. This isn’t about the appointment; it’s obvious she won’t appoint him. This is about building legitimacy for Colbert to run as a Dem in ’14, particularly assuming we primary ol’ Grahamnesty.
Gingotts on December 10, 2012 at 2:59 PM
Just ignore that 80% of the people polled DIDN’T want Colbert–that’s the story. And don’t even get me started on who the imbecilic 20% are.
